I cracked open an eyelid and glanced around the unfamiliar bedroom. Breathing deep, I became aware of Reid’s familiar woodsy scent and Cassie’s underlying lavender. Warmth cradled my back, and I blinked, waiting for reality to settle into my sleep-hazed brain.
The night before rushed through my mind, hitting my heart with punch and waking me fully.
I gasped an inhale, tensing—until I also remembered where I lay.
Attempting to slow my breaths, I glanced over my shoulder.
Cassie snuggled against Reid who slept on his side, facing both of us.
We were alive. Safe.
And Devon would never touch me again.
I sagged into the mattress, my eyes closing as nausea kicked in past the shot of fear that had jolted me awake.
