Chapter 5 “Pardon me, sir,” Bertrand called up to the man, “but if it truly is the Siren you seek, I am afraid you are about to make a grave error.” The man looked down at Bertrand, his gangly arms pinwheeling as a rock slipped out from under his foot, tumbling into the chasm below. “I will take to the Siren’s Realm,” the man shouted. “You cannot dissuade me!” “I wouldn’t dream of it,” Bertrand said. “I am quite fond of the Siren’s Realm and believe it to be an excellent place in which to reside. However, jumping off that ledge would lead only to your death, and, I believe, your body being swept down the river below.” Maggie tramped forward through the grass, letting the blades scratch her arms in her haste. “This is the path to the land of peace.” The man pointed to the river below.
