Chapter 6
“Bertrand?” Maggie’s spine ached as she sat up. “Bertrand?”
Something flew toward her with a rumbling whoosh.
Maggie rolled sideways, gritting her teeth and hoping she wouldn’t fall down another chute.
With a thump and a grunt, the something landed next to her.
“Bertrand?” Maggie said. “Inexuro.”
A tiny flame flickered to life in her palm. Bertrand lay on the ground next to her, blinking at her light.
“You didn’t land on your feet.” Maggie scrambled to stand. “I am obscenely happy you didn’t land on your feet.”
“I am glad to provide you entertainment, Miss Trent.”
“Look out below!” Alden’s voice echoed from above.
Maggie yanked Bertrand to his feet with her fire-free hand as Alden shot off the end of the slide and landed on his back, a huge smile lighting his face.
