Chapter Thirteen Faith sat behind the wheel, looking at the key she’d been given, tapping it against the palm of the hand. Letting out a heavy breath, she looked out the windshield at Mr. Wynter’s barn. “What the hell did I just promise?” she whispered. “Shit.” Rewrapping the key in its cloth, she set it on the passenger seat, started her 4Runner, and backed away from the barn to leave the property. Feeling a bit shaken by what the old man had told her, as well as an enormous weight on her shoulders, Faith decided to drive around a bit to clear her head. Once she got back to a road that was closer to the town proper than Mr. Wynter’s property was, she drove aimlessly, taking random turns onto random streets. She found herself near the old school.
