The Alpha Family

Axel stared at her mother. She had insisted on dinner after talking to Maverick. Her dad’s side of her family had golden hair and honey skin tone, which Maverick had also inherited, but Axel and her mother had long raven hair. They could pass for sisters instead of mother and daughter since wolves always held onto their youth. Axel normally wore her long hair in French braids where her mother wore it in one long braid. “You could meet your mate!” Axel groaned, “I could meet an alpha that can’t handle a stronger mate. I’m not looking forward to every unmated male wolf and female wolf trying to claim me as well. These things never work in alpha’s favors. I mean remember you and dad’s gathering. Luckily we have no run at this one.” Runs were rough for Alphas if you didn’t find your mate at the beginning of the run, you would have to avoid every other wolf especially the ones in ruts or heat. The dominance that alphas carried attracted any unmated wolves. Well the ones attracted to that gender. Axel had many different types of wolves fawn over her. She had talked Maverick out of many gatherings for the same reason. When they used to go out to gatherings or ceremonies together people would even go as far as trying to attack them. “Who knows Axelia, maybe you will find him the first day and not have to worry. I just have a feeling you will meet him there.” She couldn’t help taking that to heart. Her family was known for their mate predictions. They even could tell when people they knew would become mates. It was a rare trait. Normally only mates could sense each other. She continued eating. Noticing her father finally making his way to the table. Everyone was bowing and her father had his normal brooding face on. That was until his gold eyes locked on his mate and pup. “My loves! You haven’t waited long have you?” He kissed his mate and walked to hug Axel. “Not at all. Axel and I were just talking about the gathering.” Axel gave a look to her mother. “It’s not that big of deal.” “Of course it is! My pup is going to find her mate.” She rolled her eyes. “I wish everyone would stop saying that. We all know how hard gatherings are for Alphas especially female ones. I have to leave tomorrow with Gamma Lucas.” “You should have him bring a bike and you drive the four door truck. You don’t want either of your mates to be confused.” She nodded, “of course. Sam will be the Beta Luna in the Royal pack. She found her mate at the meeting. So it’s time to go back to the drawing board for Beta. I know you both retired, but I may need your help in watching over the pack while I’m gone. Sam and her new mate Gabriel will be coming back to help as well. I’m just nervous leaving the pack in the hands of a newly mated couple.” They nodded, “of course, you can count on us.” They finished the rest of dinner with idle chatter. Axel hugged her parents and headed to the pack house. She needed to pack for the three day weekend. She needed workout clothes, stealth clothes and a formal dress. Her pack may occupy a big part of the military, but they didn’t train them. They were a speciality stealth team. Her pack was thought to be assassins since they were know for speed and ability to blend into their surroundings. She chose a beautiful red velvet formal gown. It had a slit down the side. It would complement her honey skin and black hair. It was the same shade as her eye color. She a very rare red eyed wolf. Her mother’s eyes were violet and her fathers gold. This could be the explanation for her red hue. “Well let’s hope sleep comes quick.” It did not. She kept adding and removing items to the suitcase and vehicle. She had texted the gamma the plan and had managed four hours of sleep, before the knock sounded. Lucas had a backpack and his bike. She smiled wearily. “I apologize for forcing you to attend. Hopefully by the end of the weekend our mates will be accompanying us back.” Lucas ran a hand over his black medium length braided hair. His gray eyes shown with anticipation and his dark skin tone stood out to the peach top and khaki pants. She could sense the nervousness through the pack bond. “No worries Alpha, I’m sure my moms would of made me go anyway.” She nodded. “Well I’m trusting you to help with the security. I hear Jeremy will be one of the guards there. He trained you before he left the pack for the council right?” The gamma looked excited. “Yeah, I can’t wait to see him again!” They agreed to head out. She knew the pack was two hours away, but didn’t mind getting her mind clear. Maverick had called her about an hour in to the journey to inform her of the meeting upon arrival. She would meet with Alpha Sloane and his beta Violet. They would also meet with everyone of the men helping with the security and information plan. Alpha Sloane and Beta Violet were the reason Alpha Tristan was under investigation. They had many rumors and evidence about Tristan attacking female wolves. He also had a group of rogues that often lived near his pack. “Alpha Axelia. It is nice to see you once more. Glad you made it here with no problems.” Alpha Sloane was an Alpha that wanted a mate and hadn’t found one. He showed up to every run and gathering. He was a sweet Alpha and ran the medical trainings for every pack doctor. Axel knew his mate would be amazing. She also knew it wasn’t his time yet. “Of course, Alpha Sloane. King Maverick and Queen Emilia would like to see you again soon. They wanted me to tell you hi.” He nodded and headed off to the meeting building. “Let’s get this over so we can see if our mates are here, hmmm.” And with that the Mate Gathering began.
