Meredith: Chapter Two

1912 Words
Meredith It felt like nails were constantly being hammered into my skull. The Healer my dad ended up taking me to suggested that if it was because of my mate being nearby, then I should actively seek him out. She was concerned about why I was getting a headache over it and why it wouldn't subside with over the counter medications. I knew the reason why and so did my dad, but we didn't reveal it to her. Another suggestion was for me to get injected with wolfsbane. She said that it would subdue my wolf and in doing that, would clear up my headache. I asked her if I would still be able to find my mate that way and she shook her head. My wolf would have to be alert to scemynt our mate, so I decided against it, even though the headache literally made me cry for most of the day and into the night. My dad was at a loss. Despite needing to be at the shop, he stayed at home with me for the next few days and tried his hardest to lessen the headache. He even offered to take me to a witch, but when we tried to leave the pack, they refused to letus out due to some security issues they were having. Priscilla tried to visit a couple of times but dadade her go away because for one, I couldn't conversate to save my life and for two, I was still grounded for disobeying him. Which was all fine and dandy since I couldn't concentrate on anything but my searing headache. On the day of the run my dad began talking to me. He was usually a quiet person, which helped with the headache, but today he seemed like he needed to say everything before we left the house to meet up with the whole pack. "Tonight, you need to be prepared for anything, Mer. If he's there and he claims you, you cannot tell him. We don't know if he will accept that part of you. We have to make sure to keep it a secret. And if anything else happens, don't be afraid to run. You don't stick around if anything gets hairy. And you stick by my side. Don't run off on your own. I know how fickle Emmy can be, but you have to reign her in. "What if he doesn't show up?" I peeked out from under the warm towel I had on my face. "I can't live like this, dad. It's horrible." My eyes were dry from the amounts of tears I had cried over the last few days but I sobbed anyways and he patted my leg. "He'll be there. I'm sure his wolf senses you as much as you do." "Do you think the headache will go away?" "I think so." "If it doesn't?" "Then I will tear at anyone at the border who doesn't let me out to take you to Helene." Helene was the witch that had saved my life when I was born. My mom had some complications and my dad knew if Helene through a friend, so he had taken mom to see her. It was by her hands that I survived the birth. My mother and my sister perished, and I had almost died too, but she did some witchy sh*t and kept me alive. Dad thought that it was because of her that I had my affliction. He called it a gift, but I called it a curse. How could it be a gift if it cause me this much pain? "Well I hope he's there. How much longer?" "An hour. Do you have your clothes?" "In my closet. I haven't bothered to pick anything out. I don't care if I ruin anything, I just want to rid myself of this headache." "Do you want me to pick out your backups for after?" "Yes, please." *** We stood in the crowd and I felt sick to my stomach. The sounds of everyone chattering away were like jackhammers. I swayed slightly and my dad wrapped a huge arm around my shoulders to keep me steady. I watched the handsome son of the Alpha begin talking and announce that he had a new mate. That was interesting. I watched as a tiny, fragile thing popped up next to him and waved. The crowd was mostly shocked, but I knew the she-wolf from school. She was decent enough, even though she was friends with the vile Jocelyn Daniels. Wasn't Jocelyn dating Matthew before though? Hmm... interesting. I could feel the pacing in my head increase as the transformations began to happen and before I knew it, Emmy was out and some of the pressure in my head lessened. It felt like a relief. If I had known that transforming would have lessened the pain, I would have stayed in form until tonight. My dad's wolf Rocky watched me then began trotting ahead, looking back to make sure my wolf was following him. She sniffed around desperately as we ran, jumping over fallen trees and splashing through small puddles by the creek. We ran almost all the way around the pack lands when Emmy stopped dead in our tracks and lifted her snout. Cinnamon Rolls. That's what we could smell. Rocky, my dad's wolf, hadn't noticed that he had left us behind, but I didn't care about that right now. All I could think about was that this was it. The moment I had waited for all week. A large grey wolf bounded towards us, a black spot around his right eye and his tongue sticking out of the side of his mouth. Emmy whined pitifully at him. Mate! She crooned in my still sensitive head. She met with him under the trees and prodded her snout against his throat, taking in his mouthwatering aroma. He did the same to her and placed his paw on the scruff of our neck. We shared a tiny moment of looking into each other's eyes, completely entranced until in my head , Cara perked up. I could feel her trying to wrest control over Emmy and then I caught the scent of the rain.It was distinct and different. I knew the weather wasn't right for the smell. I peered behind my Cinnamon mate and watched as a black wolf came bounding to us, a white streak going from his snout to around his ear. Cara purred loudly in our mind. Mate!! He was quick to stick his snout up against our throat and give a small whine before putting his paw on my scruff as well, claiming me as his. I glanced at Cinnamon and saw It hit me all at once as we sat in a small circle that each of these wolves were mine. It was at that realization that I heard the distinct sound of menacing growls coming from Cinnamon Roll. Tremors ran through my body at the sound. Rain was quick to jump to all fours and bare his teeth at Cinnamon Roll, daring him to attack. Emmy backed us up, fear making the fur on our back stand on end. I tucked our tail and was about to run like my dad instructed me to do if there was any trouble, until I saw their gigantic bodies crash into each other, snarls ripping through their teeth as they began fighting. Both Emmy and Cara's immediate thoughts were to stop them. They're our mates. They can't kill each other!! Split them up. NOW! Emmy ran and jumped in between the wolves. Pain lanced through us as we felt their enormous jaws clamp over us and then nothing. *** I woke up with pain. It wasn't like my headache. That was gone. This was in my side, my face, my leg, my heart. I blinked rapidly, trying to get my eyes to adjust to the bright lights. I could smell antiseptic and bleach. I tried to lift my left arm but felt a sharp pain in my side. I winced and felt a pull on my face. I lifted my hand slowly up to my face and felt a jagged line starting from my right brow down my nose to the left side of my chin. It ached to touch and I felt my lip begin to quiver. "Pumpkin? Are you awake?" "Daddy?" I turned to face the direction of his voice and felt tears sting my eyes. His face was full of sorrow and I felt a stone sink in my stomach. "What happened?" "You-You jumped in between two wolves when they started fighting. I got there in time to subdue one of them and a warrior had to get the other one, but...they're both claiming to be your mates." And that's when the memory struck. My mates. My Cinnamon Roll and my Rain. I remembered the sound of their snarls. I remembered the murderous look in Cinnamon's eyes when Rain claimed me. The way I smelled blood, even though I couldn't remember where it came from. "They're both right." I whispered to him. My dad's eyes widened and he began shaking his head. "No. You can't claim them both, Meredith. You'll reveal the truth. You can't do that. They'll come for you." I stared at my dad and felt both of my wolves stir in my head. They both growled at the prospect of their mate being rejected. I felt my throat tighten and I shook my head slowly. "I can't. Dad, I...I know that you know what it feels like. I can't let them go. Either of them." "The warriors already called the Alpha. He's coming to speak with you about last night's events." I stiffened and swallowed the bile that rose in my throat. "What do I say?" "Everything but the truth. Don't trust that they won't be afraid or wary of your conditon. Just pretend you know nothing of why you have two mates. The Goddess blessed you and that's it." I nodded slowly and sighed. I lifted my hand slowly to my face again and winced as I touched the long scar on my face. "Will this heal?" "It was a deep wound. They had to stitch it. It might become a scar. Your mates didn't even stop fighting long enough to see the damage they caused." His voice was hard as steel and both of my wolves cowered in my head, ashamed of their mates. "It's not their fault." I found myself defending them. "They were confused." "They were being territorial. They were thinking with their d*cks, Meredith." I clenched my jaw which stretched my scar and took a deep breath. Cara and Emmy whined because he was talking bad about our mates. I agreed with them. He sighed and shook his head. "Listen, kiddo, I have to take care of a few things in town and I'll be back. If the Alpha comes, make sure you tell him everything we agreed on. I love you, pumpkin." I used my right arm to hug him and he left without another word, most likely angry with me for wanting to keep both of my mates. It would be fine. I would be okay. I laid in bed for about another hour before there was a knock on the door and Alpha Matthew walked in with Luna Elena. Okay. I thought. Just the truth without outing my second wolf.
