Gerald
Lavender. My precious lavender mate. I wished I knew what her human form looked like, but knowing her wolf for now would suffice. I laid on my cot and stared up at the ceiling, waiting for something to happen. Anything to happen. I hadn't had so much free time in such a long time and it was for a reason. I hated being stuck with my thoughts. Depression was always sneaking up on me, threatening to take my days and nights away from me. It was one of my best kept secrets. If you smile and flirt and act like the life of the party, how will people know that you really can't stand to be alive?
Now the only thing that was keeping me anchored was her sweet scent. It was unexplainable. How could a single smell be my savior? It had to be because the thoughts of seeing her bloody and unresponsive were threatening to drive me insane.
Would she even want me after how I acted? The dumb pup just charged at her and claimed her without so much as a 'hi' or anything. Just ran up to her and laid his paw on her back like he owned her.
I stood up and walked towards the bars and peered to my left, where I knew a few cells down, he was laying there thinking about my girl.
"Hey pup!" I called through the bars. The other wolves quieted down, knowing our story through gossip. I waited for an answer but there was nothing.
"I know you can hear me pup. Unless your wolf senses were all that you had?"
"What do you want?" Even his voice sounded delicate, like a pup's.
"Just tell them all the truth so we can get out of here. Tell them you laid a false claim!"
"It wasn't false! If anything you are the imposter. You attacked me for no reason! I scented my mate. That's all I did. I followed her scent."
"Me too. Do you believe what they're saying? That she claims us both?"
"No."
"I don't think my mate would lie. Unless she's trying to protect you from death for hurting her."
"You attacked me! You did it! I just defended myself!"
"QUIET DOWN!" A guard bellowed as he paced by our cells, clanking his baton against the bars. I sighed and backed away from the bars. He stopped in front of my cell and began pulling on the rubber gloves from in between each cell.
"The Alpha wants to talk to you, Ford."
"Is it about my mate?"
"I'm not privy to what the Alpha wants except for you to be taken to a visitation room and for you to wait there."
He took out a pair of cuffs and cuffed my hands in front of me and lead me down the block, close to where I knew the pup was in. I peered through each cell to see if I could discern who was my competitor and near the end I saw a young pup, barely of age, with a pale, delicate face and red puffy eyes. As soon as I walked by, his head whipped up and his grey eyes pierced through my skull.
I had a sudden urge to attack but I tamped it down and shuffled beside the guard through a few hallways and then into a small room with a table and two chairs facing each other. There was a small place where they could connect my cuffs and that's where the guards sat me down.
I sat and waited in the visitor's room for a little over half an hour. I laid my head on the table just as it opened and I got a whiff of the scent that had been invading my thoughts since I woke up in the jail cell.
I snapped my head up and saw the most beautiful girl standing nervously in the doorway. She had long, dark hair and beautiful green eyes. Her lips were full and luscious. My eyes went directly to a scar that started on her left brow and ended on the right side of her chin. And then I noticed that her right arm was in a cast. My heart ached because I knew that I must have done some of that damage.
Standing behind her was a big, burly man with long dark hair and a white and black beard. His bushy eyebrows folded over his eyes menacingly as he glared at me, his lip in an angry sneer. He must be her father.
I felt myself try to move and that's when I remembered that I was shackled to the table. "I'm so sorry, beautiful. I-I will never in my life forgive myself for what I must have done to you. Please forgive me."
And then a thought occured. What if she was here to reject me. I felt my palms begin to sweat and my throat felt dry. She walked into the room with her father right behind her and she sat down, pushing hair behind her ears as she stared at me. She couldn't seem to take her eyes off of me. I couldn't stop looking at her either. She was more than what I could have dreamed of.
If Harvey was awake he would have been overjoyed to be meeting her human form. "It's okay. I'm okay."
She smiled and I could feel the warmth of her smile pull at my heart strings. I wanted to touch her. I wanted to see if her skin was as soft as it looked. I wanted to touch her scar, just to feel her. It all felt so strange.
"Cinnamon Roll." She said quietly. She took a long, deep breath, closing her eyes and smiled. "That's what you smell like."
I grinned. I was anything but sweet. But I would be for her. I would be anything she wanted me to be. All she would have to do is say the word and it would be done.
"Lavender. You smell like lavender to me." She quirked and eyebrow, pulling at the scar on her face and smirked.
"What's your name, Cinnamon?"
"Ford. No...well, that's my last name. That's what everyone calls me. My first name is Gerald. What's yours, Lavender?" I of course knew her name because of the Luna, but I still wanted to hear her husky, sweet voice say it out loud.
"Meredith. Everyone calls me Meredith."
Behind her, standing up, her father crossed his arms and glared down at me. I knew I had already f*cked up. I didn't know what to say or do to fix it.
I studied her face and leaned towards her slightly, just so I could be nearer. She flinched as my eyes traced over her scar and I watched her hand go up to her face and trace it. "Yeah, they say it's not going to heal properly, so it's permanent." She pressed her lips into a frown and shrugged.
"I'm so very sorry. I'm not sure if it was me or not, but I will take full responsibility. I will do anything and everything in my power for your forgiveness."
"I already forgave you. Did the Luna not come and tell you?"
"She did, but...It's not enough. I haven't earned it, and I would like to."
She grinned. She had a mouth full of beautiful pearl teeth. This woman was going to kill me with her looks alone. I couldn't wait to get out of here to get to know her. I could already imagine our future together.
"Thank you, but I don't want that. I just want to have a chance to know the both of you." The images of my future with her came to a screeching halt as I remembered the reason why I was in here to begin with.
"Are you sure? About him, I mean?" I watched her beautiful eyes narrow slightly and then she nodded.
"I'm a hundred percent sure. Just like I'm a hundred percent sure of you."
I felt butterflies in my stomach and I felt kind of silly for even feeling that way. But I was already infatuated with her.
"We all just have to come to an agreement. So I came here to talk to the both of you to see if there was any way that we could all try to get along. I don't want to have to choose and if we can't try, the Alpha has already said that I might have to."
I took a deep breath and tried to push the panic down. If she didn't choose me, I'd surely give in to my old friend depression. And maybe this time she wouldn't let me escape her greedy clutches.
Could I share my mate with someone else? The thought of it turned my stomach, but the thought of not having her at all just broke my f*cking heart.
"If he's willing to try, I can try." She gave me a wide, bright smile and reached across the table and placed her good hand over both of mine. I felt a current go through my body at her touch and I closed my eyes, trying to keep the feeling going.
"I have to talk to him next, but can I come back and see you tomorrow?"
"Yes! Anytime! I meant I hope I'm not in here long, but as long as I am, yes."
"Good." She glanced back at her bear of a father and then back at me. She stood up, wincing and leaned over the table and placed her big, soft lips on my cheek. I closed my eyes and after she left with her floral scent, it was all I could think about.
My beautiful Lavender.
