Connor: Chapter Four

1897 Words
Connor Chocolate chip cookies. I closed my eyes and inhaled the heavenly scent. Her scent is faint, but it's here. I can feel her, despite Opal being asleep. I am waiting to see her. I saw them take him out of here and now he's back. It's only a matter of time before they take me to her. I swallowed hard at the lump in my throat. I knew this girl from school. She was by far the most gorgeous girl I had ever laid my eyes on ever. She was also not very nice. When Elena had told me about her I was just shocked. It had seemed impossible that Meredith Jones could be my mate. She had always kind of made remarks about my looks. Not to my face. It was always to some of the other girls at school. 'Look at his face. Those lips...his eyes.' I understood exactly why they would always talk sh*t, but it still irked me. I always felt like an outcast. The only other person in school that I was able to talk to without feeling self-conscious in front of was Elena Evans. She was a runt, and people talked about her too, but she didn't seem to notice or care. She took everything in stride and was one of the sweetest girls there. I was almost put out when Alpha Matthew announced her as his mate. If I had to be honest, when I was getting ready for the pack run, I had imagined that Opal had been all hopped up about it because Elena would be my mate. I was actually pretty excited to think that it could be her. She's smart and beautiful and funny and was the only person that I felt had so many things in common with me. So imagine my surprise when I scented my mate there and saw her announced as the next Luna and not my mate. Not that I was bitter or anything. I was just downright scared about how Meredith would react to me being her mate. I just had the worst feeling in my gut that she would reject me almost immediately. I wouldn't be surprised. I was one of the only wolves in the pack that had Fae blood other than my mother and my sisters. There weren't many half breeds in this pack. I was only a quarter Fae, but I inherited the looks. I had the pointed ears and the soft, delicate face that could be mistaken for a girl's face. My skin was pale and had a glow to it like most Fae usually did. And I could detect when I was being lied to. That's where the Fae in me ended. I was tall and had a little of definition, just not a meathead like some of the other wolves. I paced in my cell and felt a lead drop in my stomach as I heard footsteps coming towards my cell. "Connor Martin, you have a visitor." The guard said as he pulled on some long rubber gloves and opened the cell door. I stepped out and they clapped a pair of cuffs on my hands in front of me and lead me through a few doors. Her scent was strong and I knew that she was already waiting for me. The nerves were building and I felt like I was going to throw up. I rounded my shoulders as the guard opened a door and I literally felt my heart start beating out of my chest. The first thing I noticed as soon as I saw her was a gigantic scar running diagonally across her face. It was jagged and looked like it was healed, but still looked horrendous. I did that. That night when we fought, I knew that she had jumped in between us and I had wanted to stop, but Opal knew if we did, the other wolf would kill us. I stopped dead in the entrance. I didn't deserve to be in her presence. I scarred her for life. She was still beautiful, but she would always have a reminder that I had marred her beauty. She would always know that we had the world's worst first meeting. She inhaled deeply when she saw me and I knew that it was because it was me. I tried to discern her disgust or anger but all I could see in her beautiful green eyes were tears. She hates me. She's crying because she doesn't want me. I backed up and she stood up and held her hand up towards me. "Hey, Connor, wait. Please." The sound of her voice broke me and I shook my head as tears streamed down my face. I couldn't be here. I couldn't look at her and know that I had caused her pain. "I'm so sorry," I whispered to her. The guard behind me ushered me in and I staggered towards the chair. Standing behind her was a gigantic man with long dark hair and a long beard. He had her same green eyes that held a murderous look in them. I could see the judgement in them immediately. I glanced back down at Meredith and she gave me the sweetest smile that took my breath away. "It's okay. I already told you. I forgive you."Truth. I exhaled. As I sat down she reached a hand across the table where the guard was chaining my hands on a ring on the table. As soon as her hand touched mine I could feel a current run through my body. I closed my eyes and could feel myself start to calm down. "I don't deserve it, Meredith. I hurt you and I can never take that back." I wanted to lift my hand and touch her face, but the cuffs only gave me about an inch of movement. "I'm alive. That's all that matters." She rubbed her finger over the top of my hand and I felt goosebumps travel up my arm at how nice it felt. "It's not. I don't...I don't think there will ever be a way I could fix this. If I could I would. You have no idea how much guilt I've been feeling over this." "Well, stop. We only have a little of time, so let's talk about something else." I nodded. I chewed on the inside of my cheek and stared into her gorgeous eyes. I could get lost in her eyes. I looked away as I realized that I was staring and took a deep breath. It was now or never, I guess. "I know I'm not someone you would have wanted to be mated with, Meredith. I'm sorry that it's me." She gasped and her tiny hand tightened over mine. I glanced up at her and her eyebrows were furrowed. "What are you talking about? You're like the prettiest man I have ever seen. You're smart and so confident. I mean..." She scoffed and shook her head like I was crazy. I was confused. "You're not upset?" "No! I'm happy! I'm so excited! You have no idea how happy I am." Truth. Huh? I couldn't comprehend the complete one eighty that was happening here. It made no sense to me, but who was I to question it? I smiled at her and watched her eyes look at my face, a look of awe. "Good. I um...I was expecting for you to reject me. I thought for sure that you would after what happened the other night." "She should." Her dad growled behind her. I flinched and looked up at him. "I know. I'm sorry for hurting her, sir. I don't know how I will ever win your respect, but I hope you will let me." He sneered and tightened his hands on the back of her chair. She turned to him with a scowl on her face and glared. "Dad, stop! Be nice!" "It's okay." I took a deep shaky breath and shrugged a shoulder. "I just need some time to prove to him that I'm good enough for you." "That's what I'm hoping for. The Alpha told me that if you and Gerald can't get along, I will have to choose one mate. I was hoping to come in here and convince the both of you to maybe not fight?" She grimaced slightly and pursed her lips as I sat back in my chair. Just the mere mention of his name sent coils of anger down my spine. Seeing him touch her when I had finally found her sent Opal running to her to claim her. He was a bit overeager, but she didn't seem to mind. I didn't like that I had to share my mate. It went against all nature for this to happen. It was interesting, but not while it was happening to me. I glared down at my hands and shrugged. "I'm not sure how we do that. It's not in our nature to share." "I know." She whispered. "I just hope we can find a way. I don't want to have to give either of you up. I like both of you." Truth. I studied her face and clenched my teeth. If she wanted me to try, I would try. She liked us both. "Okay. I'll agree to try, but if he attacks me again, I won't just sit back. I have to defend myself." She smiled, lighting up the entire room and nodded. "Thank you! I'll let the Alpha know that the both of you are willing to try to work out this whole crazy thing!" She bounced in her seat excitedly and I couldn't help but blush. She was gorgeous and had a great body. I could feel my erection begin to press against my pants, so I clenched my jaw and started thinking of her other mate and felt myself deflate immediately. Crisis averted. "I am if he is. I can't wait to get out of here and be with you." I whispered to her. She nodded and leaned across the table and pressed her lips against my cheek. I heard her inhale and sigh. "I can't wait either. You smell so good." She whispered against my cheek. I could feel myself growing again as her scent invaded my senses. "You smell amazing too." "What do I smell like to you? You smell like rain." I raised my eyebrows. Ofcourse I would smell like nature. My Fae ancestry probably had something to do with that. "You smell like chocolate chip cookies, straight out of the oven." She grinned, giant dimples sticking out. My baser senses made me want to touch her. I was lucky my hands were chained up because her father behind her gave me a menacing look as she sat back in her seat. "I'm so glad that you've agreed. I have to go now, but I'll come visit as long as you're in here. If that's okay with you." "Yes! Please! I would love if you did!" She smiled and caressed my cheek. I closed my eyes and felt myself melt against her warmth. It was going to be a struggle to be in here now, but as long as she visited, I would be okay. I watched her leave and sighed. There was no way I could live without her chocolate chip scent.
