Chapter 5: Molly

3465 Words
I was in the hospital for 3 weeks. Marline brought me work and I happily did it as I was awake. It helped me forget what was going on. Alisa stayed close to me and when she wasn’t Callista took her. Oliver was no where to be found and I had messages after messages from payment. I didn’t know how to deal with this. “should we make a stop at the office or do you want to head strait home.” Mrs. Thomas spoke as we pulled out of the hospital. Oliver was at work and couldn’t come to get me. I understood and was ready to take the bus home but Dr. Thomas was having none of that. He called his wife when he heard I didn’t have a ride. Alisa was at school and Callista was going to pick her up. “I would like to go home.” I told her gently. She smiled at me as we drove down the road. “Callista says she has the house in tip top shape for you. Her and Alisa have been working hard. I am going to pick up the groceries for you after I drop you at home. Callista thinks we should meet at the same time.” Her voice was so gentle and sweet as she spoke to me. I unfortunately wasn’t paying much attention. It felt like I was broken, like a part of me had been taken away. “Sweet heart.” “Hmm.” I spoke looking over at her with my full attention. “What’s wrong? Something is eating at you.” She spoke as she reached and grabbed my hand. Her gentle squeeze gave me strength. “Oliver.” I spoke with a sigh. “Oh that boy has gotten a lecture from me and then one from Keith and let me tell you.” She chuckled. “I feel another one coming from me.” “He has been so distant and non responsive. Has he said if I did anything wrong?” I asked trying to stay in control of my emotions. I couldn’t break down in front of her. It would be bad as she has already done so much for us in the last few days. “I don’t know sweetheart but I will ask Callista if she knows anything. Brekan may have said something about it as those to are very close.” She said with a smile before she put both hands on the wheel. I nodded happily hoping it was me just overthinking things. The house came into view and I was so happy to be back home. My mind running over everything I knew I would have to do but my body ached. Mrs. Thomas stopped the car before I stepped out. She got my things and helped me get settled in. She left after much persuading as I went to the living room and turned on Netflix. When the notification came up we had to get subscription I frowned. I went to my room where I found my cheque and the envelope from Marline where I had left them. My brother didn’t do anything I asked. I sighed gently. “Molly.” My sister screamed through the house causing me to smile. I grabbed the money and went downstairs with it. “How was school?” I asked. She was smiling from ear to ear as she walked over and hugged me. I had bent down so I could wrap my own arms around her. “It was good.” She smiled happily at me. “we are now on summer vacation.” “Yeah.” I said trying to match her enthusiasm. Still tired but all in all much better. “Mom says she will be back soon.” “Thank you for everything Callista. I actually need to make a few runs.” I sighed even though I wanted to stay home and just relax. “Come I’ll drive.” She smiled happily. Alisa raced her bag to her room before coming to join us. I locked up and almost wobbled to the car. Thank goodness for a little bit of magic. I managed to make it to the car. Callista raced me around to every bill place I had to pay. Once the cash was gone we ripped to the bank and I got my cheque. It was nice. All these payment became one now and I would just have to pay my boss back. I held the rest of the money for that. “Thank you so much Callista for helping me.” I spoke as Callista helped drag me into the house. I was actually exhausted now. She smiled at me as a pleasant smell filled our nose. “Molly.” Dr. Thomas spoke as he opened the door. He helped Callista get me to a chair where Mrs. Thomas ran over a glass of water. “I’m fine just a little tired.” I spoke gently as I took the water happily. “Someone forgot to pay the Bill’s.” Callista said annoyed. “I swear that boy needs a reality check.” “I think he’s just busy with work. Me being in the hospital cant come easy for him.” I spoke in his defense. “Doesn’t matter. He shouldn’t be ignoring you or even his best buddy for that matter.” Callista said. “You mean he hasn’t been to see Brekan either.” Mrs. Thomas spoke as she put a plate of food in front of me. Alisa had carefully brought a chair close to me and was hugging me tight. “Oliver never comes home on time.” Alisa gently told me. “I haven’t really seen him much.” “He's just racking in overtime to pay the hospital Bill’s and get you that life time pass to the spa.” A voice spoke from the door. We all looked over to see Brekan. Callista raced at him and jumped into his arms. Not sure how he did it but he managed to lift her and keep the flowers and box safe. “Well hello Cali.” “Sorry, I bet you’re here to see Molly and I’m getting in the way.” Callista blushed. Brekan leaned in and kissed her cheek really making her blush. “It always nice to see the love of my life. Plus you have been really busy these last few days.” Brekan spoke gently with a smile. “But yes I am here to see how Molly is, I just get a bonus of seeing my other top favorite girl.” “Brekan, my parents.” Callista blushed hard as she walked over. “Flowers and a box of Purdy's hand picked dark chocolate.” Brekan spoke as he pass them over to me. “Made sure there your fav.” “Thank you Brekan.” I smiled happily before Mrs.Thomas grabbed the flowers and set them up in a vase for me. Alisa ran the chocolate to my room. She knew if they were not in my room Oliver would be all over them. “How has everything been for you.” “Not as exciting as you. I have graduated and i can officially say I have taken over my fathers buisness.” Brekan spoke happily. His father ran a very popular jewelry shop over many places. His father did a lot of traveling but said if Brekan finished his business degree he would be able to run one of the businesses close to home. I remember Oliver telling me that when he first started school. “Congrats.” I said happily as Alisa rejoined us and took up her seat beside me. “No talk you eat.” Brekan spoke with a small chuckle. I smiled as I began to eat as they talked about things I had missed. Everyone enjoyed supper which was something that made me happy. I hated eating by myself and there was nothing like sharing home cooked food. “Alright bed time.” Dr. Thomas spoke as he helped me up. I was tired so I agreed. “Callista I bought a Netflix card could you activate the Netflix for me?” I asked yawning. “Don’t you worry. Your second brother got you covered.” Brekan said puffing up his chest. I chuckled as I was led away. Mr. Thomas made sure I was tucked in before he left. Alisa followed and snuggled in beside me after a few hours. I woke up when she did. I of course was soon out and felt bad I left my guest without saying good bye. “Fuck.” I heard someone yell waking me from my slumber. I was still tired but didn’t feel so weak. I wiggled out of Alisa’s grip and made my way down stairs. In the kitchen I saw Oliver fidgeting in the fridge. I could smell the alcohol from here. “What are you doing?” I asked gently leaning up against the wall that went up stairs. “Looking for something to eat.” He snapped at me. I was a little taken back but let it go. “There is plenty of things in the fridge. Mrs. Thomas just picked up the groceries for us.” I said making my way over to him. “Nothing I like.” He said slamming the fridge and walking away. I sighed as I quickly whipped him up something and walked to his bedroom. I made sure to nock before I entered. “Here.” I gently said passing him the plate of food. He looked at it before he hesitated to grab it from me. I was so confused. “Is everything okay?” “Yeah.” He spoke before he began to eat. “Oliver what’s wrong?” I asked concerned and confused. Something really wasn’t right. “You have been so distanced lately.” “Is this because I didn’t come pick you up.” He asked. “No, you where at work busy. I understand and Mrs. Thomas gave me a ride.” I told him gently. “Molly you should be asleep.” He spoke as he finished his food quickly. “If you eat that fast you will get a stomach-ache.” I chuckled. “I’m not 5 molly. I can take care of myself which we have seen you do.” He snapped at me. I jumped in surprise, where did that come from. He looked angry as well, like there was no guilt he snapped at me. What was wrong with him. “Now you may leave. Here bet there is room in the dishwasher.” “Oli,” His nickname came out with out me realizing really. “Get out Molly and stop calling me that.” He said grabbing my shoulders harshly and throwing me out the door. He slammed the door in my face. I stumbled before I hit the wall and fell to the ground. I was in shock that I lay there for a bit before I was able to rise. I put the plate in the sink before I sat on a chair. What was happening. “Molly.” Alisa called gently as she came down the stairs. She looked at me and came over. I quickly fixed myself and put a smile on my face. She didn’t need to see what her brother was doing to me. “Alisa, what’s wrong?” I asked looking at her. “I saw you gone.” She cried. “I’m sorry I was just making sure Oliver was taken care off.” I told her as I rose and we walked back to bed where we snuggled together. The next morning was a bit of a drag. I hurt quite badly but got up and made breakfast. I had to try and get back to regular schedule as best I could. Alisa was up first and she came bounding down happily. She helped me make breakfast and plate the food. Oliver came in all grumpy but sat down with us and ate. I kept quiet about last night thinking he would be to drunk to remember. He didn’t say anything either which made me sad and happy. Alisa's night mates of him hurting me where getting worse. The one that scared her the worst was the one I actually die in. It’s been a bit concerning specially for someone like her. “Are you coming to office.” Oliver asked putting his plate in the sink. “I was told to take the week.” I told him as I cleaned up the table. “Great week off, glad my overtime is coming in handy.” He said. I didn’t really know how to take that. I knew he probably meant if more lovingly but it sounded like he was annoyed. “I will be back to work soon and I’ll work overtime to cover it.” I told him. “What ever.” Oliver said leaving the kitchen. He soon appeared dressed with his suitcase. He left without a word. “Molly what’s wrong with Oliver?” She asked confused. “He is just supper stressed.” I told her not really sure what to say. “Why don’t you help me with dishes and we will go and binge Netflix.” “Yeah.” Alisa giggle happily. She came and gave me a hand with the dishes. We finished quickly and where snuggling together in front of the TV watching Happy Feet 2. “Molly.” A voice called from the door. I rose from my spot and walked out to see Ella and Sasha. Man was I happy to see them. They did visit me at the hospital a time or two. “Hey girl how you been.” Sasha said after they let me go. I was so happy to see them. “Good. Second day home and we are relaxing.” I smiled happily. “Good. You deserve it.” Ella smiled happily. “That must mean your brother is out working?” “Yeah he left early this morning. I mean it is nice to see him working hard.” I smiled trying to push all the negative out. “Well we wont keep you as we are heading over to Laurie’s for a party. Wish you could come.” Sasha spoke upset. “You know I don’t like parties and plus the medication I am on will not allow me to drink.” I told them. “You go and enjoy, take pictures and tell me everything that happened.” “You got it girlfriend.” Ella spoke as she gently nudged my shoulder. I held back the yelp that was about to come through. She must have hit the bruise that was forming there. “Alright guys, thanks for stopping over.” I told them giving them each a hug again before They waved good bye. “Molly, Oliver is calling.” Alisa spoke as she held up my cell to me. I smiled and put it to my ear. “Hello?” I said gently, worried he was going to start screaming at me again. “I forgot lunch.” He said angrily. Great what was I suppose to do about that. “My lunch is in an hour.” “What would…..” Click. Well how rude. I finished the sentence before saying a few other things and pretending to hang up. Alisa looked at me happily as we went to the kitchen. I quickly made him something simple and quick before we got dressed. I had a beautiful summer dress on, it beautiful Navy blue color hung tight to just below my knee. Alisa matched me with the same one but hers was flowing and a little above her knee. She looked so cute. I grabbed my purse and a simple flat before we walked out to catch the bus. Man one bus ride and I was spent. Who knew it could take so much out of you. I had lots of energy in the hospital but I didn’t move much now. I mean I wasn’t exhausted to the point I would pass out I was just tired. I was glad he had the car, I don’t know how I would have gotten to work early morning with having to switch to 4 different buses. “Your Late.” He snapped as I entered the office and passed him the brown paper bags of his food. “Sorry missed one of the connecting buses.” I told him as he took the bag from me and walked away. I sighed as we turned around to walk out. “Molly.” A voice called causing me to look around. My eyes fell on Marilne. “Hello Ma'am.” I spoke gently. She smiled at me and hugged me gently. “What are you doing here?” She asked a little shocked. “Just came to drop food off for Oliver.” I told her. She frowned a bit. “He should have just bought lunch in the lunch room.” She spoke annoyed. I was in shock. Didn’t know they had a lunch room. “Maybe he didn’t know.” I told him. “Oh no he knew. Bought lunch from there the whole time you where in hospital.” She spoke with a sigh. “Anyways he better have given you the car to get home with.” “I got the spare key.” I lied. She smiled as she let me go and walked away. I sighed as we both walked out. “I like her.” Alisa smiled. “I do to.” I told her. “Oliver would never let us have the car would he.” She spoke a little upset. I nodded frustrated. “No he wouldn’t have. I promise we will get a second car soon.” I told her. I was trying to save up for a second car but the pipe burst caused all of that to go down hill. “Okay.” She smiled. “Molly can we have lunch out?” “Your Hungry aren’t you?” I smiled at her. She nodded and I chuckled. I promised her a night out and I did have a few dollars I could spare. “Alright, where would you like to go?” “There is a Tim’s on the way home.” She said and I knew she was trying to figure out what was on rute. I nodded as we went back to the bus stop and waited. It didn’t take too long before we where on the bas and heading to the next. We made it to the second one before it took off. Before we knew it we where inside Tim’s ordering our food. “Yum.” She smiled happily as she ate her farmer’s wrap. I was eating one as well. She had orange juice and I had a beautiful fruited mix tea with honey. “Thank you Molly.” “I did promise you to eat out.” I told her gently. My phone began to vibrate. I put down my wrap and pulled it out to see an unknow number. “Hello.” “Is this Ms. Molly.” The person on the other end spoke. “Yes.” I spoke a little worried. “Ms. Molly this is Ryan Brachard calling from Pub 24th Street. Your brother has racked up a good tab and I haven’t seen him in weeks.” “Oh.” I spoke a little shocked. “We need this cleared up.” He spoke again. “How soon can you come in and pay it.” “How much does he owe?” I asked a little worried. Alisa was now looking at me confused. “450.00” He spoke. I choked on my spit. “I’ll be in within the day or so.” I finally said. “I’ll hold you to it.” He spoke before he hung up. I sighed as I pulled the phone from my ear. I dialed another number before I put it up to my ear again. “He sis, what’s up.” Brekan spoke happy. “I was wondering if your busy?” I asked hating I would have to ask him for a favor. “Always free for you sis.” He chuckled. “Let me guess Oliver has the car at work.” “Yeah and I don’t think I will make another bus ride. I don’t know how he did it.” I chuckled gently. “He didn’t. I normally would pick him up and drop him off. I think in all those years he may have taken the bus a handful of times.” Brekan said. “Now you said you cant take another bus ride that means your out.” “Yeah, Oliver forgot his lunch.” I said. “And I just got a surprise call that I need to deal with.” “Alright where you at.” “The Tim Hortons on Torick Ave and Holmer Street.” I said with a smile at Alisa. She lit up when I mouthed Brekans name. “Give me 10 minutes to through some pants on and I’ll be over.” He chuckled. “Take your time we just started eating.” I chuckled. “Want me to grab you one?” “Oh that would be wonderful. Haven’t had breakfast.” “Let me guess, to lazy to make something.” I chuckled happily and you could hear him laugh on the other end. “Its been to long Sis. I’m glad to hear you laugh again.” He spoke before he said good bye. I tucked the phone in my pocket and began to enjoy my wrap. I loved talking to Brekan. He was a lot like Oliver, well I mean what Oliver was like. He now is like some old grump. “We have to go somewhere?” Alisa said. “Yeah, Brekan is coming to get us.” I told her with a smile. “I’m sure he wont have a problem dropping us off at home either.” “Yeah no busses.” She smiled happily.
