Episode 1: Strangers
Rain always smelled different in a new town. The scent of wet earth and pine trees welcomed him like an old memory. Gabriel Stone rolled down the window of his dusty black pickup, letting the breeze of the approaching storm fill the cab. He’d been driving for hours—past gas stations, winding roads, and towns too small to be named on a map. But this one, this place called Raven Hollow, nestled quietly at the foot of a mountain range, called to him. A new beginning. Or maybe just a place to hide. He pulled into the gravel driveway of a small cabin he'd found online—secluded, sturdy, and just out of reach of curious eyes. Just how he liked it. Gabriel stepped out, his boots sinking into the soft dirt. As he looked around, the trees whispered with wind, and the silence felt almost too still. But it wasn’t silence. It was listening. The wolf in him stirred, always alert. Always ready. — A few miles down the road, in the heart of Raven Hollow, Elena Marlowe was closing up her bookstore, The Hollow Pages. She flipped the sign to Closed, tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and sighed. Friday nights in Raven Hollow were quiet, especially when the rain threatened. Just the way she liked it. Elena had lived here all her life—grew up in her grandmother’s house after her parents died, went to school in town, and stayed when most of her friends left. There was something about Raven Hollow she couldn't let go of. The way the forest curved protectively around the town. The secrets people whispered but never said out loud. And the way the moon always seemed bigger here. She stepped outside, pulling her coat tighter. That’s when she saw him. Across the street, standing near the old diner, was a man she’d never seen before. He looked like he didn’t belong—tall, broad-shouldered, with dark hair messy from the wind and a leather jacket that looked older than the town itself. His eyes—sharp and watchful—met hers for a second. And in that second, the air felt heavier. She looked away first. Gabriel watched her disappear into the shadows of the alley beside her bookstore, her scent lingering—warm vanilla and something else. Something that made his wolf stir again. Not now, he thought, jaw tightening. — The next morning, Raven Hollow woke under grey skies and dew-covered streets. Gabriel ventured into town, mostly to gather supplies, but partly because he couldn’t stop thinking about the girl with the quiet eyes. The bell above the bookstore chimed softly as he stepped in. Elena looked up from behind the counter, her breath catching for half a second. It was him. "Hey," she said, casually brushing her hands on her jeans. "Can I help you find something?" Gabriel took in the shelves of old books, the warm scent of paper and coffee, and the woman standing in the middle of it all like she belonged to a different century. “Just looking,” he replied, voice low, rough around the edges. “Moved into town yesterday.” “Oh, really? Welcome to Raven Hollow,” she said, forcing a polite smile. “Not many people move here on purpose.” Gabriel’s lip tugged into something that resembled a smirk. “Maybe I like quiet places.” “Or maybe you’re running from something,” she said before she could stop herself. His smile faded slightly, replaced by something unreadable. She cleared her throat. “Sorry. That was—rude.” “No,” he said, stepping closer. “Just... accurate.” There was a silence between them then. Not awkward. Just... thick with something unspoken. "I'm Elena," she finally said. "Gabriel." Their hands didn’t meet, but something else did—an energy, a pull. — Outside the store, hidden beneath a dark umbrella, two figures watched from across the street. “That’s him,” one whispered. “Alpha of the broken pack.” “And the girl?” the other asked. “She matters to him. Let’s wait.” — Back inside, Elena handed Gabriel a worn copy of Wuthering Heights. “Something tells me you like the brooding, mysterious type,” she teased. He took it from her, his fingers brushing hers. “I think you do too.” She laughed, but it caught in her throat when their eyes met again. There it was—that pull. Something about him felt... wild. Not dangerous exactly, but untamed. Gabriel paid and turned to leave, pausing at the door. “Thanks,” he said. “For the book?” “For not asking too many questions.” She smiled. “You’ll be back.” He didn’t deny it. — Outside, the clouds began to shift. Somewhere deep in the forest, a howl rose through the trees. Gabriel paused for a moment, jaw clenched, then walked away, disappearing into the mist of Raven Hollow. And Elena... she watched from the window, unaware that her life had just begun to change.
