THE KIDNAP.
LYRA'S POV
My Footsteps echoed through the forest, swallowed by the wind's howl.
I ran, my heart kept racing fast; the bushes tore my, skin, each branch cutting deeper, baring my skin to the cold night.
I had been running for hours; sweat soaked on my dress, and strands of my hair clung to my face.
The moonlight caught on my curvy jawline.
I had been running wildly from those four beasts for hours. I saw how heavy they were. Each one was six feet taller than me.
Behind me, the pack howled, their voices ripping through the forest.
I ran, but that shadow kept chasing me; it was faster than me.
I didn't slow down. I shouldn't if not they would catch up to me.
Then a massive wolf blocked my path, cutting me off in one silent step, with a lethal move.
My legs were shaking. I thought about taking the left route, but another massive wolf appeared, white as snow.
Before I could finish the thought, a tall, huge, red werewolf appeared to my right.
Now I had nowhere to run to.
My legs already gave out; I fell, my hair messy, eyes teary, shaking all over.
The one in the shadow stepped forward; The moonlight covered his face, but his red eyes glowed through it.
As he walked towards me. The other wolf howled. My heart hammered.
The four wolves moved closer; their steps were heavy and coordinated like a thousand feet all at once.
They bit into me, marking all over me and growling at all once.
" Mate".
Present Day
I shot upright, gasping. My bed was soaked with my sweat; my nightwear, my head pounding, heart racing right with it.
I sat up.
I grabbed my phone from my bedside and dialed Kaia's number.
"Kaia, can you guess what? I had that stupid dream again. " I was pacing around my room.
Kaia screamed.
"What! Again!"
"Kaia, I swear with my dead parents, I will never be mated to any werewolf. I am killing every one of them before that happens."
"Breathe, Lyra, "Kaia cut in, sharp.
" You can't be mated to a Wolf. They have been extinct for thousands of years. It's just a dream.
Besides, you can't be mated to four wolves. That's impossible," Kaia said.
My voice dropped, cold and steady.
"But this killed my family ten years ago, when I was ten. If wolves don't exist, then who killed my parents"
I saw it happen. I did see fur, the claws, the eyes, and the night I had sworn an oath to take revenge.
Every wolf would die. Especially the main family who ordered it.
"You need to take a deep breath, Lyra. When you calm down, call me back. For now, go get some sleep". Kaia said.
"Kaia? Are you shutting me off? You think I'm crazy, right?"I shot back.
"No, I'm just concerned about you. I'm busy right now! Call you back," Kaia replied.
"Hey Kaia, don't cut ....."
Before I could finish, the line went quiet.
I sat down at the edge of the bed, staring at my phone
" Am I actually crazy? What if it was just a dream
I shot out of the bed and walked to my desk. I collapsed into the chair and slammed the laptop open.
My fingers flew fast. Werewolf myths, werewolf extinction. Unexpected Molly.
Every link contradicted the last. Records said wolves had been extinct for centuries.
But I didn't care about official records.
"Do wolves exist?" I typed. "And if they don't...... what bit me in my dream?"
As I searched, every Link led nowhere.
My phone on the desk flashed; on the screen, a video popped up immediately: a man cosplaying as a werewolf during a Livestream.
I couldn't take it anymore; my body was boiling. I started typing messages, my fingers flying across the keyboard.
" I don't get why you guys find these werewolves amusing... If you could know how bad they are, you would be dead by now".
"And if I ever set my eyes on these beasts, I'm killing them."
I was still furious as I typed each word sharper than the last.
Almost instantly, replies started popping in.
" It's her, the wolf hater"
A message popped up on my laptop screen. I ignored it at first. Then it popped up again; then I decided to click
I opened the message. A link was attached.
I clicked it.
The page loaded with one line;
HELLO, MISS LYRA, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION TO NEXUS HIGH SCHOOL.
I frowned. I didn't apply for anything.
And how did they know my name?.
At the bottom of the Page, two options glowed.
I hesitated at first, but out of curiosity, I clicked "Accept "
Then the screen flared white.
A new message came across it.
CONGRATULATIONS, MISS LYRA. YOUR ADMISSION HAS BEEN ACCEPTED.
A wolf exploded on the screen _ painted in wet, dripping red. The eyes seemed to stare straight at me.
My chair screeched as I shot up, a strangled scream tearing from my throat.
The message didn't disappear. It pulsed, alive, like it was watching me.
WAIT, WE ARE COMING FOR YOU, MISS LYRA.
My blood ran cold.
A joke. It had to be a joke.
But my fingers couldn't stop shaking. And the red werewolf eyes wouldn't leave me.
I slammed the laptop shut, gasping for Air.
I forced myself not to overthink this.
But my heart had not been still since I saw that message.
I stood up, shoved the laptop aside and walked to the kitchen as if nothing had happened.
Two days passed.
But the message couldn't leave my head.
During class, my eyes glazed over the windows of my classroom, waiting, even though I didn't know why.
During lunch break, my food would go cold. Even when Kaia was talking, my mind was somewhere else, stuck on the red wolf's eyes and his little smile.
"You've been acting weird all week," Kaia said, frowning. " What's going on? What's wrong?"
" Nothing." I forced a laugh. " Am Just tired".
I couldn't tell her; Kaia would think I was crazy.
I got home from school and froze.
My house had been ransacked.
Drawers ripped open, books scattered across the floor. The front door lock was hanging broken. I stood in the doorway; my hands were shaking, and my heart was beating fast.
" Who's there? Show yourself, I'm not afraid of you!"
But I got only silence.
I walked into the house, checking each room.No one was there, just my house littered and in a mess.
I didn't reach for my phone to call the police; they must not know I was alive. My parents had told me to keep my existence a secret before they were killed.
And my friend didn't trust her.
Instead, I called the locksmith.
Gritting my teeth, I forced myself to start cleaning. Taking things back to where they belonged.
When I was done, I walked to the bathroom.
Then I heard it.
A doorbell.
Right outside the bathroom door.
I turned the shower off and walked out the door, assuming it was the locksmith, and put on my dress.
Four men were standing in my living room.
All in black, head to toe. Faces hidden.
" Who are you?" I shouted. Voice shaking, but Sharp. "What are you doing in my house?"
The four men closed in.
One step forward, silent as shadow.
A glint of metal slid out from under his sleeves. Claws, long and sharp.
I barely had time to turn before pain tore through my neck.
My world went black.
