The guards threw Shuan into a dark cell, slamming the door shut behind her. Shuan collapsed onto the cold stone floor, her mind reeling with thoughts of her mistress's betrayal.
Why had her mistress sent her here? What crime was she supposed to have committed? Shuan's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of laughter outside the cell .
She leaned in to listen to the guards conversations.
"So, the king has demanded for the criminals to be brought to the palace tonight?,"
One of them asked .
"Yeah, I heard the king can't wait till tomorrow as he'll be having an important meeting first thing tomorrow,
they'll be be taken to the palace to face the king's justice."
Shuan's eyes widened in terror, on hearing this. The king was not one to show mercy especially when it comes to his enemies, he would make sure they get punished.
Shuan took a deep breath, she knew she was innocent, but she also knew that she had no chance of proving it. She was just a slave, after all.
Shuan's heart sank as she listened to the guards' conversation.
She knew she had to think fast, or risk being taken to the palace and executed for a crime she didn't commit.
As she sat in the darkness, Shuan's mind racing with thoughts of escape and survival.
She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was determined to stay alive and not die like a common criminal.
Just as Shuan was thinking of a plan, she heard the sound of footsteps outside her cell. The door creaked open, and a figure loomed in the doorway.
"Time to go, little slave," one of the guards sneered, grabbing Shuan's arm and pulling her to her feet.
Shuan stumbled as she was dragged out of the cell, her eyes adjusting to the bright light of the torches in the corridor.
As Shuan was dragged down the corridor, she saw other prisoners being led out of their cells, all of them looking scared and uncertain.
Shuan's heart sank as she realized she was being taken to the palace, along with the other prisoners.
The guards led them out of the prison and into the cool night air. Shuan shivered,
despite the warmth of the summer evening. She was terrified of what lay ahead.
As they walked through the streets, Shuan saw people watching from the windows and doorways of their homes. Some of them spat or threw stones, shouting insults at the prisoners.
Shuan felt a surge of shame and humiliation. She knew she was innocent, but no one seemed to care.
The guards led them to the palace gates, where a group of soldiers were waiting.
They were dressed in the king's livery, and they looked stern and unyielding.
"Welcome, Criminals" one of the soldiers sneered. "You are to be taken before the king, to face justice for your crimes."
Shuan felt a cold dread creeping over her. She knew she was innocent, but she also knew that the king was not known for his mercy.
She was in grave danger, and she didn't know how she was going to survive.
