As Shuan stood there, her head bowed in submission, she could feel the weight of the king's gaze upon her.
She felt a shiver run down her spine as she wondered what he was thinking, what he was feeling.
The guard's grip on her arm tightened, and he growled, "You will pay for your disrespect, girl."
Shuan flinched as she was brought back to reality. " What are you thinking, you were brought here to be punished "
Shuan though to herself
Suddenly, the king spoke, his voice low and commanding. "Let her go," he said, his words echoing through the throne room.
The guard hesitated for a moment, then released his grip on Shuan's arm.
She felt a surge of relief as she straightened up, herself on the floor were she was blowing.
The king's gaze never wavered, and Shuan felt like she was drowning in the depths of his eyes.
And then, in a voice that was barely audible, the king spoke again. "Who are you?" he asked, his eyes fixed on her. But she didn't dare look up at him again.
"Who are you?" He asked again.
Shuan felt a sense of trepidation, She took a deep breath ,then another, until she was able to talk.
" I'm nobody of importance your majesty, I'm only a lowly slave to my mistress "
Who's your mistress?" The king asked.
" Your majesty it's lady Jun".
" Lady Jun, the future queen of this country"
"Yes your majesty" .
Shuan replied as she bows her head in courtesy to the king.
" What's a slave doing amongst criminals?" The king asked looking at his guards in surprise.
" Your majesty, I believe she's lying" one of the guards came forward to respond.
But the king cut him short by hitting the sit with his hand.
" Are you now blind, don't you know a criminal when see one!" .
The king shouted.
" I'm sorry my King". The guard got on his knees.
" Take her to join the other servants, she now belongs to the palace, as she has entered she can't leave anymore "
The king commanded.
" Yes your majesty "
huan was led away by the guards, she couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions.
She was relieved to have escaped punishment, but she was also anxious about her new life as a servant in the palace.
As she walked, she couldn't shake off the feeling that the king's gaze was still on her.
She felt like he had seen right through her, to the very depths of her soul.
The guards led her to a large courtyard, where the servants stayed. Shuan's eyes widened as she took in the sights of the palace.
One of the guards handed her over to an elderly woman, who introduced herself as the head servant.
"Welcome, child," the head servant said. "You will be serving the royal family from now on.
You will be expected to work hard and follow the rules of the palace."
Shuan nodded, trying to take it all in. She knew that she had to be careful, that one mistake could mean punishment or even dismissal.
The head servant took Shuan to her quarters and gave her clothes to change into and some food.
Shuan rushed the food as she hadn't had anything the whole day.
The elderly woman smiled softly as she watched Shuan eat.
" eat up, so I'll take you to where you'll be sleeping"
Shuan nodded her head as she swallowed hard which led to her coughing.
" Oh you silly child eat slowly no one is chasing you" , the elderly woman said with a smile on her face as she fed Shuan some water.
Shuan drank the water slowly.
" Thank you grandma" Shuan said looking at the woman.
She smiled softly and asked.
" Child what's your name?"
"S_H__U_A_N, Jo_ kim_ Shuan"
Shuan replied with a big smile on her face.
"You've indeed brought light, just as your name implies"
The woman said smiling at Shuan.
" What?" Shuan blinked in confusion.
Come on let's go to your quarters.
" Okay... grandma" she said with a big smile.
As Shuan followed the elderly woman, she wondered what her life would be like in the palace. " What fate does the palace holds for me" she thought as she followed behind.
