The last Werewitch

Chapter 4

 The cracking of a twig broke the silence making me and Valerie to turn round to see many creatures with sharp teeth and claws coming our way.

What the hell are those? Valerie asks as I brace myself for a fight.

‘’They’re kobolds, never heard of them?

‘’Seems like they want a fight so bad cuz they’re going to get it hot. She says as we put back on our jewellery and stand back to back.

I create a shield around us as the kobolds start running towards us. I lift my hand, my power feeling lighter. Shoving my right hand forward, I summon a ball of fire charged forward, and threw it like a javelin at the creatures. They screamed loudly as the fire made contact with their skin. Looking up, I see more and more of them advancing forward looking even bigger than the first set. 

Hmm, seems like it’s time to give them a taste of my elemental powers I thought grinning as I closed my eyes. I imagine the kobolds image in my mind and thunder strikes most of them down. I look back at where Valerie is standing and I see some kobolds frozen. 

Me and Valerie join hands, shut our eyes and slowly rise in the air. When we open our eyes, we extend our hands and cramp our fingers tightly. The kobolds writhe and scream in pain as they turn to ashes. The remaining ones retreat like they had found a new person to fight with. That’s when I see him. I see a person who looks like an angel lurking in the shadows. Before I know it, the earth cracks and splits into two making the creatures scream as they fall into the earth before it’s sealed back. We land and before we could thank the mysterious creature, he vanished into thin air.

‘’Well, that was a weird one’’ Valerie says as we start going back to school. As we get to our room, I fall face first on my bed as I’m so exhausted while Valerie goes to shower. While she’s showering, I decide to call Aunty Em as I haven’t spoken to her since I arrived.

The phone rings for a while before she finally answers.

‘’Good morning Aunty’’

‘’Oh my God, is that my lizzy bear? I hear her ask.

‘’Yep it sure is’’

‘’How is school?’ ’she asks.

‘’School is fun and nice and my room is so cosy same with my roommate.’’ I reply

‘’Missing you so much love’’ she says and I hear her push back a sniffle.

‘’Me too, but it won’t be long before I’ll be back alright? I reassure her.

‘’Alright’’ she says

‘’I’ve to run; I have a class by eight’’.

‘’Okay darling, bye’’

‘’Bye’’ I say as I hang up.

‘’Who was that?’’ Valerie asks as she exits the bathroom clad in only a white towel.

‘’My aunt’’ I reply going into the bathroom.

I run a hot water bubble bath and I enter the bath tub once its full. Relaxing my nerves, I scrub off all the dirt on my body. After my bath, I walk to the rear end of the room where my wardrobe is. I select a black jean skirt, a red top and a pair of sandals to go. I brush my nougat brown hair and I pull it in a thick bun. Before applying my lip gloss and grabbing my purse, I go to thumper’s cage and drop some carrots for him. We lock our room and leave. The first class we’re having today is healing magic. 

The teacher gives us our seating positions so I find myself at the back while Valerie is at the front. 

One boy comes to class late and the teacher pairs him up with me.

‘’Hey, I’m Adam Jones’’ he says with a sweet baritone voice.

‘’Uhmm, Lisa Scott’’ I say shaking his hand.

‘’Wow, what a beautiful name for a beautiful girl’’

‘’Thanks’’ I say.

We wait for our teacher’s instruction before we start mixing.

‘’We are going to be having an exercise this morning. Hunters attacked a pack and used wolfs bane to weaken the alpha. Find a healing potion that will restore him back to normal. She orders.

 ‘’I think I know what to do’’ I tell Adam.

‘’Okay, I’ll just follow your lead then. Do you need anything?’’

‘’Okay. First I need a sage, a bunch of rosemary plant and a basil leaf for starters.

‘’Coming right up’’ he says going edge of the room to get them.

When he gets them, I get to work crushing the leaves into a smooth fine paste and I mix it with liquid substance called ‘’ ‘’ making it bubble.

‘’I said you should make a healing potion, and not a hair shampoo Maddie’’ the teacher says to the girl who’s partnered with Valerie as a cheerful laughter erupts from the class.

When I’m done, I go to the front of the class and hand our work to the teacher.

‘’Wow, impressive’’ she says

‘’Show off’’ Maddie scowls.

The bell rings, meaning it’s time for a change of class. For the first time, me and Valerie have different classes. I have transfiguration class next while she has a training session for vampires only. 

‘’See you later Adam’’ I say leaving for the class.

‘’Alright Lisa’’.

I go upstairs and I find the class without any difficulty. The class is so boring because the teacher is so old. 

After class, I couldn’t find Valerie anywhere so I just go to the cafeteria alone.

After getting my lunch, I go to sit at our usual spot. Not long, Adam pops up.

‘’Hey Lisa’’ he says as he sits by me.

‘’How are you? I reply 

‘’I’m good, you’’ he asks.

‘’I’m cool’’ I say 

We chat for a while before Valerie shows up.

‘’Sorry I’m late’’

‘’No problem’’ I say as Adam coughs

‘’Ooh, Valerie meet Adam, and Adam, Valerie’’.

In no time, we’re talking like old buddies. As we are talking, we hear’’ All students are expected to be in the school auditorium after recess’’ coming from the speakers in the cafeteria.

After we finish eating, we go to the auditorium and the crowd I see is astonishing. We locate empty seats and we settle down.

‘’Good morning school’’ the vice principal says.

‘’We called you guys to alert you on the recent happenings around the school. More supernatural creatures keep surfacing day and night. Last night, dead bodies of kobolds were spotted just outside the school premises’’ she says pausing. ’’These creatures in question are very dangerous even to us super naturals. On that note, never go out alone during late hours except in groups. We have also decided to start training every student no matter the specie so as to groom students who can defend themselves in any circumstance they find themselves in.

 We have also made a decision to form a watch guard squad. The strongest and toughest students will be selected to join the group and defend the school along with most of our trained personnel, because your safety is our number one priority. You all can proceed to your rooms from this point.’’

As she was talking, I look at Valerie who was already looking at me and smiling. 

We all exit the hall and go to our rooms. I go straight to Thumper’s cage, open it and tickle him, making him squeal and twitch his nose in delight. I keep him back gently and give him a cucumber to munch.

‘’Valerie, I want to put protection candles in our room, can you help me?’’ I say as I wash my hands thoroughly in the sink.

‘’Okay, just tell me what to do’’. She replies keeping Whiskers back in his cage.

‘’First, you’ll have shut all the windows and draw the curtains. When she does that, I bring out five magical candles. I sit on the floor, cross my leg and hold all five candles together. I shut my eyes and say a spell Aunt Em taught me. When I open my eyes, the candles light up and I place each one on a window sill. After that, I shower and head straight to bed.

MALHEM’S P.O.V

     I moan as I release into her, at the same time popping open a vein in her neck with my elongated fangs and draining her of her blood. I wipe off the metallic taste of her blood off my lips. Human blood always tastes so good I thought while putting on my trouser. 

It has been three weeks since I ordered Cole to kill Lisa Scott, but he hasn’t reported to me yet. Could it be that the description didn’t match any girl in the school? But Miranda had told me she had a nougat brown hair, emerald green eyes, a skin tone so bright…………...

I still remember that day like yesterday. When my father left, promising to be back in a few days’ time. He was sent as a spy to the Witches Kingdom by the ruler of our vampire coven Lord Bruegel. But unluckily for him, he was spotted and killed by a werewolf who had married a powerful witch. I waited patiently for him to return. Weeks turned into months, and months to years but he didn’t show up. When I learnt of his death, I became bitter and I swore to avenge his death.

Years passed as I planned on how to wipe out the entire coven. I learnt that the werewolf that killed my father had a powerful child, a hybrid. It made me angry, thinking about how she was happy and living peacefully while I had been robbed of who I treasured so much. I had created a proficient plan on how my revenge was going to happen. A powerful mage had created a harmful substance which could kill witches. Made from a dangerous plant called red flower, Kalmia could render a witch helpless in just a few minutes.

The day of the surprise attack came, and we journeyed to their part of the country. We surrounded the coven and waited patiently. I had found out that there was to be a coronation that day, so no one was on guard at the watch tower. With a spell, the lethal fire was started. Screams were heard from inside. Witches ran out, trying to quench the fir, but were prevented by my skilful marchers who shot the Kalmia at them. We advanced, making sure that no one survived. We got to the last house, and to my surprise it was not in ashes 

LISA’S POV   

I wake up in the midnight due to Whiskers noise making. He was playing with the wheel in his cage.

‘’Urrgh’’ I groan as I turn to my side. Turning on the light, I see my cute Thumper sleeping peacefully. But this fur ball named Whisker is always noisy. I guess it’s just how most hamsters are.
