Chapter 3

Kai’s POV: “You sure you don’t need me to drop you off all the way to home?” Liam asks, sitting in his blue Porsche. His brown hair falls over his forehead, and freckles adorn his cheeks as he raises his brows for an answer. “Nah men, your car is too high profile. As much as I would appreciate it, I don’t want to attract attention like magnets.” I say, take out my bag from the back seat before swinging it over my shoulder. He already came out of his way to drop me near the neighborhood. It won't take much time for me to walk home. “Fine, but everything is okay, right?” He asks narrowing his eyes a little. “Yeah, what would happen? Unless you are talking about Winter. I am going to strangle her if she comes to me one more time.” I groan with an annoyed frown. Winter has been following me like a shadow for the past week. Even though we broke up, she doesn’t seem to get that word because she is always present no matter where I am. “Do it, I will make sure you don’t go to jail. That b***h is annoying as hell. But I am not talking about her. You seem strange these days. Always lost in thoughts, and you barely focus on practice.” He says with a small frown .“Coach is going to come for your ass if you keep this up. We have a match two weeks later. We can’t mess it up.” The smile on my lips freezes, and my heart skips a beat as I remember the scene of last week, where I was tangled with a certain bastard in Liam’s party. That’s the thought I am lost in most of the time, and god, I can’t even focus on my practice because of this. I don’t know why and how it happened, but it did happen. I kissed Hayden of all people. I kissed a Men. Can you believe it? Not a girl but a f*****g grown men and on top of that my worst enemy. How am I supposed to accept that? I just can’t. Even in my dreams, this scene haunts me. He haunts me, kisses me, and f*****g glares at me. I haven’t been able to get those ash grey eyes out of my head . And it’s scaring me. I have always liked girls. Always. I never even ever thought of seeing a men in that light. So how come I can’t get him out of my head? It just fills me with more disgust that I can’t stop thinking about him. “It’s nothing. Just some mistakes that I made. I was reflecting on them.” I say as casually as possible. I am not lying. It was a mistake after all. He frowns like he doesn’t believe me, but doesn’t say anything about it. “Fine than . I will get going. See you tomorrow, buddy.” I watch as his Porsche drives away and disappears into the night before I turn around and start walking home. The distance between my home and college takes almost one hour to travel . When I got the acceptance letter from Blackwood, grandma was over the top happy. She suggested that I move in near college so it’s easier for me, but with Blackwood being one of the best colleges, she is already spending a huge amount on my studies. Not to mention that the rent is crazy around the campus. If I moved somewhere near school, it would only add to her burden, not to mention that I will never leave her here to live alone. She is the only family I have, except Madelyn. I am so lost in my thoughts that I don’t notice the shadows and whispers following behind me. “Come here, you bastard.” A hand suddenly grabs the back of my collar as I walk by an alley and pulls me into the dark alley. I hit the cold wall with a thud since I was caught off guard, and I frown in annoyance as I turn around. “What the f**k?” I pause when I look at the group of seven men. Two of them are very familiar to me. Bert and Wern. Shit, I forgot about them. I groan inwardly but keep my face calm. I can’t believe I am so lucky to run into them today. I should have had Liam drop me off at home directly. “You have grown some nerves after borrowing money from us, huh?” The men in the front, Bert steps towards me and grabs my collar. I frown as I look down at his hand and then at him coldly. “Let go.” I don’t know why, but after last week, I hate when someone of the same gender touches me. It creeps me out. He looks surprised as he scoffs mockingly. “What did you just say, you little s**t?” “I said let go,” I say, pulling his hand off my collar and pushing him back. I didn’t mean to push him that hard, but I couldn’t bear the disgust when I saw his hands on me. He stumbles a few steps back before his eyes glow in anger. “You still haven’t returned the money you borrowed from us, but look at your attitude. Is that how you act towards your benefactor?” “Exactly, we took pity on you back then and lent you the money. Otherwise, who would have lent an orphan like you such a huge amount?” The men, Wern behind him says and steps forward. My eyes turn cold as I watch him approach me before stopping right in front of me. “Did you forget how you begged us for that money? You lowly piece of s**t, how dare you glare at me now, huh?” He snaps and pushes me back against the wall. He grabs my collar and pulls me close. “You haven’t given the monthly amount yet. You hid last month too like a rat. Did you think we wouldn't be able to find you if you keep avoiding us?” My heart feels heavy as I clench my jaw, forcing myself to stop from saying something that will get me in trouble. Six months ago, when Grandma fell sick, I spent all the money I had saved up from my part time job to get Grandma back to good health. But as a result, when Madelyn’s tuition fees and everything had to be paid, we were almost left with nothing. At that time, I had no option but to borrow money from these guys. The local ruffians, these three words describe them perfectly. Even though they come from decent background, they mix with all kinds of bad people and criminals. “Give me another month. I will give you the three months money at once.” I say, keeping my calm despite their determined look. I can already tell from their expression that they came to look for trouble. And I am just so lucky to get caught alone here. Great. “Do we look like fools to you?” Wern says with a mincing expression. “If you can’t pay, then you shouldn’t have borrowed in the first place.” He says and raises his hand to punch me. But I react faster and grab his fist before twisting his hand behind his back, making him cry out in pain. A few seconds pass by for everyone to react before they rush at me. But I can only fight three at a time. As a result, I am soon pushed to the ground as they beat me ruthlessly. My body goes numb from pain as Bert finally backs away. I groan and turn over my back only to moan in pain. Wern kneels beside me and grabs my face roughly .“If you don’t want to get beaten, then you'd better pay by tomorrow. Otherwise, we will go to your house and beat that old hag until she is dead.” My heart squeezes in pain and anger as I glare at him, and I don’t think twice as I swing my head hard and headbutt him. He swings back from the impact and curses before they start beating me again. “You bastard! Who do you think you are? You are just a rat living here under our mercy. How dare you dare to look up at us?” “One more kick and I will cut off your legs before feeding them to sharks.” A cold voice echoes in the dark and empty alley. They finally pause in their action and frown, looking at where the voice came from. I finally manage to take in a breath as I lean my head back against the ground and slowly look towards the source of the voice with great difficulty. A black bike stands there , almost mixing with the dark night . A huge beast-like figure stands beside the bike, dressed in jeans and a black leather Jacket. A black helmet covers his head, but when he pushes the visor up, a pair of stormy grey eyes comes into view.
