Chapter 1

With the lockdown finally eased. I had meetings planned for all morning at the office, starting at 7am. Then I was supposed to meet Dad and Derek later that day. But, there was other plans it seems... Dawn had broken with my alarm going off at 5am, waking me from my slumber. I rolled over in my king-size bed and turned my alarm off. My eyes fluttered open, as sun light slowly creeped in through the closed curtains. That is when I felt it, the urge. It was like a longing ache from within, that was calling me in a whisper. It was freaky but powerful and magical. It made me feel like I had to trust it because somehow I knew it would take me somewhere amazing. But I still had no idea what the hell was going on. Before, I knew what was going on, I was up out of bed. It was like I was in a trance, my body moved on it's own. Dressed in my purple silk cami and short pajamas, my feet began to move on their own. What ever was happening the trance began to take over but it left me strangely curious of what or where I was being led too. I walked from my huge bedroom through the corridor and down a flight of stairs, until I reached the hand carved and heavy double doors of my private office. I opened the doors and entered my exceedingly modern office. Bookshelves lined the walls filled with files and books. A glass top desk, with a state of the art desktop computer on it, sits six feet from a fire place. With a black leather office chair, that was tucked in beneath the desk. Stationary and paperwork was organised neatly across the desk. Yes, I do love my neat and organised office. I walked in, straight to the bookshelves that are along the wall that ends at the corridor that leads to the private library. I stop directly in front of the bookshelves. Almost on its own, my hand reached up and grabbed a first edition copy of The Time Machine. I tipped the book towards me. A click rung out around the room. The bookshelf moved on its own, like a door, to reveal a hidden room, as if my family was some kind of spy family. Theories of what the secret room would hold fill my mind like a flood. Within the room, a lonely wooden desk and chair stood to the side with five old leather bound books. They looked hand written diaries of some sort. Up against the wall on the far end of the room there was an ancient wooden wardrobe, which had strange symbols and images hand carved into the wood. It was strange the wardrobe felt ancient. It looked ancient, but it also looked new like some magic spell had been cast over it. Realisation hit me. This is the secret. My familys secret. A secret room, wardrobe and five books. Seriously!! Why couldn't my father tell me about this? How bad could any of this be? A strange glow began to creep through the doors of the wardrobe. Okay, that is weird. I have never known a wardrobe to suddenly begin to glow. My feet began to move on their own again. Curiosity was overwhelming. The urge that I woke up feeling, only grew stronger the closer I got to the wardrobe. The glow to grew brighter, almost blinding. A huge wave of fear washed over me mixed with curiosity and excitement. I didn't know what to do. I wanted to run in the opposite direction but I also wanted to find out what that strange glow was and why I am being pulled to it? Suddenly, resolve was all I felt, I had to know. I had to open the doors. The trance seem to lift as the resolve crept in. Slowly, I raised my hands up, grasping the handles of the wardrobe doors firmly. I threw the doors open. The white glow swarmed around me. It grew brighter. This time blinding me entirely. Until...
