Chapter 2

938 Words
Blinded by the glow, a cold breeze swept around me. I felt strange. The glow began to dim down. My eyes adjust to the change in light. No longer, was I in the hidden room connected to my office. With the glow now gone, I began to survey my surroundings. Towering trees and thick brush stretched as far as the eye could see. Melting snow was scattered out across some of the brush and ground. I couldn't see any man made structures. It was very cold here. Where ever here was. What happened? Where am I? What was that strange glow? Was I kidnapped? Was that strange glow magical? Magical, what am I thinking, magic isn't real. I look down at myself. Gone were my silk pajamas. Now, I was wearing brown trousers and black leather boots. Also a blue long sleeve dress with a slit down both sides from my hips to my ankles. A belt around my waist only made the tight hugging dress appear tighter. A traditional norse sword hung from the belt on my left side. Why am I wearing Viking clothing? So, many questions swirlled around in my head but I had to push them aside. I needed to figure out where I was. I needed to find shelter, it is already cold and its likely to get colder by nightfall. I had no idea where I was going. All I could tell is that the sun was rising, it might be early morning but I wasn't sure. I had time to find shelter but I needed to get moving. I began walking down hill through the dense forest terrain. I tried to be quite but the thick under growth made it difficult. I kept stepping on branches and twigs, cracking and breaking them. Every time I did, it sounded a hundred times louder in this forest. I must of been walking for hours because I was getting tired and hungry. I knew I needed to find water, or I could die from dihydration. I couldn't drink the water from any river without building a fire first. Snow! It will be like a slushie drink but it would probably be cleaner than the river. So, that is what I did. I picked up the cleaniest white snow I could find and put it in the mouth. Aahh brain freeze!! Well, it is better than nothing. I kept moving and hoping to find something. A strange feeling washed over. I felt like I was being watched. "Hello, is anyone there," I shouted. No Response. I decided to keep moving. But, that strange feeling grew stronger. That is when I started hearing noises, panting and rustling coming from everywhere. I turned to see several pairs of glowing eyes in bushes behind me. Wolves!! Crap!! I slowly began to back up away from them. But they moved when I moved. I had to run. I began to run. I ran as fast as I could. I dodged trees and jumped fallen trees. But the pack of wolves kept closing in. In a last ditch attempt, I drew my sword. I tripped on the root of a nearby tree. I stumbled forward, losing my balance. "AAAAHHHHH," I screamed as a black fur wolf sunk his teeth into my lower left leg. I turned and swung the sword into the wolf cutting him clean in half. His teeth released from my leg. The other wolves seemed to back off. I tried to keeping moving. But, my leg was too painful. Every step felt agonising. I knew had to move. Those wolves could come back and finish the job if I stay still. Stumbling forward using the sword as a walking stick. I kept on pushing forward. That is when I heard the snarling coming from behind. They were getting closer. I had to rest. I pressed my back up against a tree, using it for support. Four wolves emerged from the darkening brush. Light was getting low. Snarling and snapping at me as they closed in. A brown wolf lunged at me first. I moved the sword, not fully knowing how to use the sword. The wolf became impaled on the sword. It fell dead at my feet, sliding from the sword. Another wolf lunged at me. I quickly moved the sword towards the wolf. Only managing to catching it on it's leg. The wolf whimpered away, closely followed by the other two wolves. The pain in my leg became to strong. I was becoming light headed. I had to keep fighting, I couldn't die yet. I undid the belt from my waist and used it as a tourniquet on my leg, trying to stop the blood loss. I began to hear foot steps. "Hello, who is there? I need help," I called out. My eye lids began to become very heavy. I have lost too much blood. Foot steps got closer. I tried to walk towards the foot steps. I fell forward, landing flat on the ground. I rolled over on to my back, trying to prop myself up, so I could see who was coming. The foot steps got even closer. I was struggling, now, to keep my eyes open. My eyelids began to close. As a few figures appeared from behind the trees and approached me, my eyelids opened enough to see one of their faces. It was an elderly lady. She looked like a medicine woman of some sort. It was getting hard to stay awake. She was the last face I saw. A face full of worry and concern. Then I blacked out.
