Evelina Pov:
I had heard the magical defences go off. I was ready to shoot first. Ask questions later. But when I looked at a handsome man with fiery red hair and the brightest set of green eyes, I had hesitated. He was about as tall as me with muscles galore. It was hard not to run my eyes the length of him. Very s**y, I purred. Shanking my mind a bit and mentally snapping my fingers and yelling to get a grip on the girl. I said in my head. I heard laughter.
"Yes mate, we're very sexy and you are very gorgeous." I looked at the man but he was still looking at my arrow pointed at him. I tilted my head and the comment that came out made me pull harder on my bow string. Rude much! I should shoot him in his pretty a**, I thought.
" Please don't. My human can come of a little rude, but I have a feeling I'm just as bad, since him and I are contented."
That's when I used my Telephic magic to notice the black wolf in this Alpha. He was just as big and muscular as his human counterpart.
"So it's you who is talking to me?" I said to him.
"Yes, interesting that I can communicate back with you, very cool, your not even a wolf." he said, c****g his head.
"What's your name, First Wolf?" I asked.
"Chase." he smiled, or I think he smiled.
"Why are you calling me mate? Chase?" I asked cautiously.
"Because you are. You are Alex and my second chance mate," he said with a wolfy grin.
"What!?" I asked
"I'm not telling my human yet, love. We're still mourning the other one even though we haven't gotten a chance to get to know her." he commented, "But I will give it a few days before I tell him. So get used to the idea." At that, he grinned and closed our link.
I've had weird conversations before using my abilities, but this has to rank up to at least top three. I had never talked to a werewolf's wolf before. The Alpha asked about the daughter. I lowered the bow a bit and led them to where Bella and I were staying. Seeing Alpha's reaction to her melted my heart and made my knee's week. It was a handsome site. Deciding this was best for my friend's little girl and me. I shared information about werewolf and mage interactions from the past and explained the mage symbols. That is when all h**l broke out.
I used magic to throw the small bed and other furniture in front of the cave opening, blocking anything from leaving or escaping. Exploding small rocks from the cave ceiling to help reinforce it.
"Nice but how to we get out," asked Matt.
"He's an i***d too!" a new voice rang with laughter, "I'm Angus, Wolf to the Beta."
"And I'm Asena, Jade's wolf."
God, more wolves to remember and they we're talking to me. I looked over to Matt and held my right hand out to where the bed used to be. The rock moves upward, revealing another cave opening.
"Handy," he smirked, "Do you know your eyes turn sliver when you use magic, it's kind of-"
"Move," Alex barked as he and Jade dashed into the new cave.
"Scary!" Matt chucked with a rush of speed, running to catch up, missing my glare as he did.
I followed after them using magic to close the new tunnel, so we weren't followed. As I ran, I kept a hand on the cave wall, disarming any traps ahead of us and resetting them when we went by. I also sent currents of magic to the other side, resetting them as well. When we came to the next opening, I yelled, "Wait!" The three of them turned to me. I went quickly to Bella. She was wrapped around Alex's back and surrounded her in magic. I looked up at Alex.
"This will help with the next step." I explained, "We're heading to the right this time. It will lead us to a drop off into the Mills River, giving us an extra push to Brigdewood."
"What did you do to Bella?" he asked, concerned.
"I put magic around her so the water won't harm her. I also added extra magic to strap her better on your back, just in case we are attacked. She's only a few weeks old, so she only has us for protection. She'll still be on your back if you are needed to shift into your wolf form as well," I explained.
He nodded and we took off running into the right tunnel this time. We reached the drop and Jade and Matt leaped off without any hesitation. I heard a manic laugh behind us. Alex and I both looked. There was a gray wolf staring at us with red eyes, growling and showing teeth. The wolf started shifting and there stood a n***e man standing only 5'7. He had a small frame, almost sickly and had little to none muscle. His narrow face and thin-lined lips crooked up at us. He wasn't as muscular as Alex, but looks could be deceiving, I reminded myself. Flashbacks flew in my mind and I had a hard time suppressing them back. I couldn't help the little shudder that ran through my body. The memory of him disguised me. The man noticed my response, his red eyes laughing at me. He flipped his greasy black hair with his hand to reflect his c***y attitude.
"Alpha Rogue!" whispered Alex, his eyes going black.
The man laughed again, this time at Alex.
"Ah, Alpha Alex Monte, so nice to finally meet you. I'm Todd Bishup. Alpha Rogue." he smile manticaly.
"We're going to end this now!" Alex growled back.
Putting my hand on his shoulder and shaking my head, "no".
"No, you have Bella." I reminded him, his muscles bunched when he realized this.
"Run," I yelled in his head, "Now!"
I saw his eyes widen for a second and nodded, putting his hand on my shoulders this time.
"You, too, don't stay here. If you fight him, don't let him kill you or, worse, take you away. Otherwise, I will come after you!" he said in my head.
"I second that." I heard Chase agree.
"I will you two now go. Keep Bella safe or all my efforts are in vain."
"Promise us you will return and not dye." Chase asked.
"No worries, I can handle this. Run!" I said with confidence.
"Okay but we have somethings to discuss when we're back in my pack," Alex growled.
I didn't comment on that. I thought Chase was going to wait? I wonder why he changed his mind? Alex turned and jumped off the edge. I turned back around to the Alpha Rogue. He smiled easily at me.
"Come home, slave," he stated, "And I shall show you mercy."
I laughed at him, "I was never your slave."
I could see the anger building in him.
"I miss my punching bag." he grinned more, "Nothing has satisfied me more than you have."
I remember that memory! It was the first time my magic had ever failed me, the first time I couldn't heal myself properly. I still have that scare to remind me of him and it wasn't even from the whipping or beating. It was far worse, a marking of my kind has suffered for so long. Even though we have for many centuries now. Shaking the thoughts he was trying to imprint in my head.
I held a hand out, "No!" Watching his eyes wide, he started shifting. In the mist of it, I started throwing fireballs directly at him. The gray wolf screamed and growled, circling me. I started firing more at him, trying to confuse him so I didn't give away my movements or him getting any cheap shots in. He jumped and avoided every coming fireball he could, but most of his glossy gray fur was smoking and falling out. Finally, with a glare at me, he took off to jump over the edge.
Oh, H**l, No!" My mind went. I pulled out my bow and shot an arrow into the cave wall. Without missing a beat, I shot another one at the Alpha Rogue. Rope flew out with extra help with my magic, it wrapped around the wolf and pulled him back to the cave wall where my first arrow landed. The wolf screamed as he hit the cave floor hard. The rope wrapped so much and so tight only his head and only the edges of his paws poked out. The rogue tried to move but the ropes tightened more, making the gray wolf whimper. Satifide I turned and jumped off the cliff edge. Pushing magic so I could float up and turned my body around to look at the wolf one more time. I waved good bye to him and smiled when he growled.
"Never again," I said, and slowly descended down the drop as his growls faded. As soon as I was just above the water. I glided just above it, for a few miles I travelled to a clearing and put myself down to the ground. I started running as fast as I could. While pulling out a necklace from my pocket, it was the same as Mara's. This is how we were able to find each other and communicate with one another. If Alex was still wearing it or had it on him. I will find him. I rushed through Bridgewood only to stop at the clearing. The bones that peaked out from them had my heart quivering in shock. I knew it was Mara, I could sense her magic even after death. My face was damp and I knew I was crying. I raised my hands and crossed them over in a salute. May the Goddess protect you my friend, my sister. I will never forget you. I'll make sure your daughter knows about you, so you will never be forgotten. I love you!
Lowering my hands, I wiped off my tears and started running again. Blinking a few times so I could see the gem as soon as I was in the woods. I powered my magic to my feet and jumped on the tree limbs. Running, jumping from limb to limb. I finally hear growling and a little baby crying. Coming up to them, I noticed they were surrounded. Little Bella had woken up from the loud growling and responded only a way she knew how. Poor thing, I thought.
I reached out for my bow and arrows. I took aim and shot. Splitting one arrow as it was in the air into two arrows, hitting two rogues at the same time. Creating an opening for Alex and Bella. Alex didn't even flinch, he ran right thrown in wolf form with Bella on his back toward the pack boarder. Jade and Matt were also in wolf form and we're attacking the remaining rogues. I shot another arrow just as a wolf leaped Matt's back. The wolf landed in front of Angus's paws, turned his head upwards, and grinned at me. C***y males, I thought, and grin back. Angus turned around and headed after his Alpha, guarding his back.
Turning my head to the other direction, I spotted Jade's sandy brown wolf. Asena had a wolf's neck in her mouth and, with one twist, ripping it off cleanly. Asena's fur was covered in blood and dirt, making her look darker than she was. She turned her head to look at me, then started shifting back to human form. I jumped out of the tree, securing my bow behind my back. Jade looked at me with a cold and slightly irated look.
She commented with an annoyed voice, "What is this? Are you making a movie in my home town now too?"
I looked back at her with a chuckle, "Jealous?"
"Well, yes, I'm the Asian here. Flying on tree branches are supposed to be from Asian movies, you know? Of all the training I have gotten in martial arts, they must have skipped that part of my education." Jade replied hotly.
I laughed, pulling a small simple sliver band ring. I handed to her.
"What's this?" She asked, looking at it in her palm where the ring sat.
"It's an energy band. We use it to store some of our magic in one of those for when we need it. Once magic is enchanted, power can flow to the user of the item." I tell her.
"Really?" said Jade as she was looking at the rings small details.
"Yeah, you can have it. It'll increase your speed and healing abilities and, if you want, you can come up and enjoy the view from the tree tops." I said, laughing at her facial expressions.
" I can go up there?" Jade's jaw dropped as she pointed up at the trees.
I laughed again, "Yes! However, put the small band next to your wedding ring or on the same finger if you like. It'll help your mate as well if he's in danger. Once a month, you have to recharge it in the sun, but if you train outdoors, running out of power won't be an issue."
Jade placed the ring with her wedding band and started giggling like a high school girl with the biggest secret and couldn't wait to tell someone about it.
"Well?" She asked, "What are you waiting for?"
We jumped up into the branches and I could see Jade's joy all over her face.
"You circle the boy and stay on their left side, I'll go right. We'll guard them while they get Bella to the pack boarder." I said, watching Jade smirk and nod.
"This is going to be fun!" she said just before she started jumping from branch to branch. I knew she was giggling inside and I was barely holding mine back as well. With a big breath to relax. I started jumping as well. We guarded the boy the next few yards until we came to the Northwestern Paw Pack territory. I could see the wolves all take a sigh of relief that they, we're home and, as soon as I crossed the line, the same relief surrounded me. It's been a long time since I felt safe, I said to myself.
