Queen's Apprentice

Alex Pov: The ruby necklace I've been hold has led us at least a mile north-east. We crossed the Mills River to the other side. Once, we were on the other bank, I saw the opening of a cave. The cave mouth is covered in overgrown grass and wild life, barely visible. "Smells like magic," Matt commented. "White magic though" Jade said as she was still smelling the air, "I smell two scents in there." "Two?" I asked "Yes, Alpha." I tried smelling but all I could catch were the wild flowers that surrounded us and only a hit of my mate's scent. I looked at both of them, "I'm still going in there, my mate's daughter is in there." I shook my head, then added, "My daughter is in there!" All three of us silently agreed and continued into the cave; colorful gems sparkled with light every step we took. You could hear the drip, drips of moister and water falling down from the cave's ceiling. The dirt and rocks under our feet crunched loudly as we descended into a narrow tunnel. About a foot in, I heard a loud click. Looking down, I saw a metal square with swirly writing on it. "S**T!" Chase growled. "Trap?" I asked. "No, Dumba**, I like saying s**t in a dramatic manor to get a reaction out of you!" he rolled his eyes at me. I mentally gave him the finger and ignored his muffled snareles. "Nobody moves!" I yelled, but it was too late. The fireballs started flying at us. I took the chance and started dodging them. As soon as my foot let off, the metal plate. Sliver spikes started ramming up from the cave floor. I heard the other two yell but I was distracted. I flew right, hitting the cave wall. I screamed as my body started burning. Rolling around the dirt a bit to stop the fire from burning and more of my flesh and clothes. When I was done, everything was quiet. I looked around and noticed the other two were singed as well. "Well that was fun." I dryly commented, the other two giggled weakly. "We should have thought about traps." Matt signed. "You mean magical traps?" added Jade towards her father-in-law. "Thanks for your observations and deductions, Sherlock and dear, Watson! Maybe you could have warned us quicker," I said dryly. Jade snorted. Matt turned his head and grinned, "Your welcome." Laughing and rolling my eyes, I slowly tried to get up. Testing each limb to make sure they were still working properly. I could see both Jade and Matt doing the same. Once we were up, cautiously moving forward, this time we slowly moved through the tunnel. Knowing all too well about the traps now and trying to avoid them better this time. "We're getting close," Chase commented, "The scent is getting stronger." "I smell something else though," I added. Chase nodded at me, "Smells like honey and cinnamon." "Annabell maybe?" I asked. "Not sure, but stay alert. Remeber the traps." The cave tunnel curved and as I followed it. I heard a string notch. I looked over and regretted it immediately. An arrow was pointing towards my head and the female holding it was staring at me with battle-ready movements. She was like Jade's statued but way taller, standing only an inch shorter than me. Her body held little curves here and there, but had legs for days. Her round face held big large forest green eyes, button nose, full lips, and milky skin. She tilted her head to look at me. When she did, her golden blonde hair fell to the side, revealing her ears. " You're an Elf." I commented in shock. Her eyes narrowed and ruffly asked, "And?" "Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. I was just surprised. We don't see many." "So that gives you an excuse for being rude?" she asked. "I'm sorry, as I said. I didn't mean to offend you. We came here in search for my daughter." I said while holding up the necklace I have been carrying since I found my mate. Believing that this woman has been protecting my daughter. Her eyes widen, making her eyes look more bug like, "Are you the Queen's mate?" I nodded. She nodded back and lowered her bow. Looking at the three of us, she gestured to follow her. Leading us around another corner, the cave opened into a wide opening. It looked like a mini apartment. It had furniture, a stove, pots, pans, a single bed, and next to it was a crib. My heart started beating faster, knowing who was in it. I rushed quickly to the side of the crib to see the little body in it. She was every image of her mother with dark hair and round face. Even if I can't see her eyes right now while she is sleeping. I would bet they were violet like her mother's as well. I reached down to hold Annabell. When I put her in the crook of my arms, I felt our bond. I touched her face and snuggled into the crook of her neck to catch her scent so I could always find her. "It was our daughter who smelled of cinnamon, but that Elf lady smells of fresh honey." Chase purred in happiness. We both felt complete. It's been a long time, I thought. "Thank you!" I told her as I sat down on one of the table chairs. Matt and Jade were already occupying the others while waiting for drinks. "Your welcome." while pouring tea into some cups and setting down the cookie tray. She took the last chair sitting across from me. Folden her arms on the table. She looked directly at me. "So you found my Queen then?" She asked. "What was left of her", Matt commented while licking his fingers. Narrowing my eyes at him, I added, "Yes." The girl sighed and looked at me. "My name is Evelina Fort, Evie for short, I am, well, I was Apprentice to Queen Mara" she said sadly. "Apprentice?" asked Jade curiously. "I guess in werewolf terms you would call it Beta." she grinned when Matt stopped eating to look at her stunned. "Mara was my teacher, I have been with her since I was little girl. We grew up together, went to school together, so she became more like a sister. We did everything together. I was more a sister to her than her own flesh and blood." She stated. Evelina started shaking as she was talking, the lost taking it hold on her. I smiled at her and put my free hand over hers to comfort her. I was surprised to feel a little shock. The small little current tickled through my hand and I looked at her curiously. However, Evelina seemed not to notice. "Where are my manors?" I said, "My name is Alex Monte, I'm Alpha to Northwestern Paw Pack. This here is Matt Cooper, my Beta, and the Shewolf is Jade. She's my Head Scout and daughter-in-law to my Beta." Evelina nodded to each of us, who was induced to her. "Please meet you all," she said and then adding, "I'm going to assume that, since you are all werewolves, that you know little to none about magic?" "That's certainly true! We can smell the difference between white and dark magic but otherwise, we know little to none about you guys." Jade commented, "Earlier today with my mate a question came up, if werewolves and magic users ever worked together?" "We did at a time, but that was ages ago." Evelina replied, "I can tell you some history if your interested?" We all nodded, yes. Looking at each other briefly until our full attention was on Evelina. Taking a breath, she told a story from a long time ago when the land had mostly werewolves. Packs living in harmony with each other until the werewolf King decided to become greedy and wanted more power for his people. The king decided to bring magic into his lands. He thought maybe just maybe packs would be jealous of one another and go after each others pack for the magic user. However, the witches and wizards would not make such a pact. They had covens and each other and had no time for matters of protecting wolves. Time to time, they were known to work with wolves but for a high fee. The King couldn't offer anything they had wanted or demand of him. Frustrated, the kings search in other countries. Finally, coming across mages. Offering them a deal, the mages accepted it. He placed at least one mage in each pack, calling them Guardians. Guardians would help the wolf defend their home and serve his king's kingdom. The mages only did this at the time because they were trying to find a home. A footnote of freedom that was promised to them. Most of the mages were settlers or escaped from violence from their homeland. So they served the king and the packs. The Guardians became what we know of today; Battle Mages. It was said battle mages could fight from far or in the front line like warriors. Some even used magic to spy or fade into the shadows. With these skills, peace was always ensured and that hampered the king's plans. When the Moon Goddess decided to step in. She decided that Alpha's or Luna's given mated bonds to the Guardians. She even mate bond the king himself. With each pack getting stronger and stronger; and no war insite. The king decided to announce that his Luna would be a werewolf, despite the Moon Goddess. The Guardians were offended, they we're good enough to serve the packs but not bond with. After the Luna service, the Guardian left the land and joined forces with the other magic users. The king went crazy making his kingdom fight to bring back their guardians. However, most subjects refused to fight because they were mated to some of these mages. Those who opposed him were executed along with any children that had both genes of both races in their blood. War lasted years until the werewolf King's sons joined forces. The boys worked in harmony and became very close. Together, they plotted how to remove the king from the thrown. It took only one year after to defeated their father. The oldest boy, who was born from the King and Luna, took over the werewolves, creating the Elder Council. His name is Elder Steve. The second son born from the king and mate bonded Guardian was named Mage King. His name was King Garret. Since then, magic users and werewolves have lived in peace and a contract was made between them if there was ever to be a war that neither of them would help or interview on each other's behalf. "So when King Garret died. Your council couldn't do anything. The contract is what holding back Elder Steve and the council. The werewolves can't be involved. Even though I know the Elder wants to help. So, when he openly supported Mara but not helped, his announcement made you guys look weak and even uncaring to the magic users. Some of us are pissed off at him, but I think he was searching for something. I just don't know what. I'm pretty sure there was an underhanded meaning about it. I asked Mara but she wasn't sure either," said Evie, pushing her hair back over her ears. "So Elder Steve is this king's son? That explains a lot," huffed Matt. "Explains nothing. He knows what will happen if this war gets in the middle of all of us." pointed Jade, "Yet he's still ignoring it, sending our Alpha pages after page of qualified Luna's for him to mate with." My brows narrowed and I could feel the heat of anger building up, "Exsplain!" I demanded. Jade gave a run down of her conversation with Jake and what was happening back at the pack. The more she went on, the more my body fueled the anger that I already felt at Elder Steve. Then I thought Steve didn't put much of a fight back at the council meeting. Did that mean something he wasn't really sure? I took a few deep soothing breaths and looked down at the bundle in my arms. It seemed little Bella had woken up at some point. Noticing me looking at her, she smiled and started babbling to me. Making little movements in my arms. Laughing, "Awake now are you?" I stated with a chuckle and took a sniff. My face wrinkled, "Goddess you need a diaper change." I got up and started to take the blanket and onesie off. A marking made me stop, on her left side of her neck was a tattoo of sorts. A long sword with flames around it. My anger returned! I shouted, "Who marked my daughter!" Evie came next to me and calmly answered, "Its a mage symbol. When we are born, we are marked with certain symbols on our neck. It represents our unique powers." Evie pulled her long blonde hair to the side and showed me her marking and, just like my daughter's, a symbol was also on her neck but it was different. It was a circle with a big thick boarder line and inside the circle, were little lines and swirls in it that made you dizzy or hypnotized by it. "So all mage's have these?" asked Jade. Her and Matt had moved closer to look. "Yes, but stronger mages like Bella will have multiple ones, like her mother and her aunt." said Evie. She turned and showed her right shoulder. It had a symbol of a bow and arrows on it. "The circle represents my Telepathic abilities and the bow. Well, it's a sign of a hunter. I'm very good at channeling my powers through it. Which gives me a upper hand. Using my Telepath abilities, with my bow. I'm able to counter attack my opponent." "What was Mara's?" I asked, very intrigued. "Mara's symbol was a flower, a violet. She had extra on her hands. Violets are symbols of truth and loyalty. Which Mara was very much that, she had spiritual wisdom and humility that the violet flower also repersented. She made friends and allies with the simplest words and smallest action. She would have been a great leader and person in general to the mages and other species." I could see tears forming in Evie's eyes and it tore my heart in pieces. I had just finished Bella's diaper and walked over to Evelina and put my hand on her shoulders. She looked up at me with gratitude and a small smile. With a slow and uneven breath, I asked, "What was Mara's sister?" Evie choked a little, "Kara has a circle with a star in the middle giving her the title of a succubus mage. At first, when she was young, she represented an enchancer or seductress, but when she decided to do dark magic, the succubus power changed. I believe she turned to a demon to boost her powers. However, that caused her problems. Now she uses her seduction to lead any man or women into giving her their powers. Sometimes even killing them in the process." "But how can that happen?" asked Jade nervously, "I'm how can she just steal power and how?" "A succubus mage needs to have a s*****l interaction with its prey. I kiss or in intimate settings." "So she f***s them to death! Great" said Matt, as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Yeah, that is the basic of it I guess." Evie looked at him. "Alex! We need to leave." barked Chase and added with a growl, "smell the air." I did what he asked and quickly jumped. Looking at the others, I yelled, "We have to go, grab what you need and move. Evie, is there a second way out of here?" Evie nodded with wide eyes and Jade and Matt growled in unison, "Rogues!"
