The night was alive with the muted hum of conversations and the soft clink of champagne glasses. Gabriel Matthews stood by the large window of the Grand Hall, looking out over the twinkling cityscape, but his mind was elsewhere. As a seasoned detective, he had attended more charity galas and high-society events than he cared to count. Tonight was no different—an evening spent in the company of the city's elite, but one he had no interest in.
