Chapter 11: The Arrival of the Shadow King
The sacred valley remained silent after Alpha Kael's rejection.
No wolf dared to speak.
No one moved.
The Moon Goddess's divine voice still echoed through the minds of everyone present.
"The false bond is broken."
Lyra stood in the center of the altar, surrounded by a pillar of shimmering silver light. Her heart felt hollow. The pain of the rejection still lingered, but the divine light eased the agony enough for her to remain standing.
Kael stared at her in disbelief.
Instead of relief, an unbearable emptiness consumed him. His chest tightened, and his wolf howled in anguish inside his mind.
What have you done? She was our mate!
He staggered backward, struggling to breathe.
Before anyone could react, a powerful gust of wind swept across the valley.
The lanterns flickered violently.
The trees bent low as if bowing to an unseen ruler.
A crushing Alpha aura rolled over the crowd, forcing even the strongest warriors to their knees.
"What... is this power?" Beta Rowan whispered, his voice trembling.
Then came the sound.
Hoofbeats.
Slow.
Steady.
Commanding.
Every head turned toward the entrance of the valley.
A magnificent black stallion emerged from the darkness, its crimson eyes glowing beneath the Blood Moon. Mounted upon it was a tall man dressed in black armor trimmed with silver. A long cloak flowed behind him, and a silver sword rested at his side.
Behind him marched nearly a hundred elite warriors clad in black armor bearing the crest of a crescent moon surrounded by shadows.
Their discipline was flawless.
Their power rivaled that of Alphas.
The rider dismounted gracefully.
The moment his boots touched the ground, silence deepened.
His crimson eyes searched the crowd until they found Lyra.
For a heartbeat, the world disappeared.
He saw only her.
The woman he had searched for across centuries.
Lyra looked into those crimson eyes and felt something awaken deep inside her soul.
A warmth spread through her chest.
Her wolf stirred excitedly.
Mate...
The word echoed through every corner of her heart.
She took an involuntary step backward, unable to understand what she was feeling.
The stranger slowly approached, stopping several feet away. Instead of claiming her, he lowered himself onto one knee before her.
Gasps spread through the valley.
An Alpha King...
Kneeling before a rejected Luna.
"My name is Lucien Noctis," he said, his deep voice gentle despite the immense power surrounding him.
"I am the King of the Shadow Kingdom."
"I have searched for you through lifetimes."
"I have crossed kingdoms, fought countless wars, and waited a thousand years for this moment."
His crimson eyes softened.
"And at last... I have found you."
Tears welled in Lyra's eyes.
She had never met this man before.
Yet hearing his voice filled her with a strange sense of peace.
Elder Miriam stepped forward, her hands trembling.
"The Shadow Kingdom..." she whispered.
"I thought it had become nothing more than a legend."
Lucien rose to his feet and looked at the elderly priestess.
"We became legends because the world believed we were gone."
"But we never disappeared."
"We were waiting."
Kael suddenly stepped between Lucien and Lyra, his silver eyes blazing with anger.
"You have no right to enter my territory."
Lucien met his gaze without hostility.
"The Moon Goddess herself dissolved your bond."
"You rejected the woman fate entrusted to you."
"I have not come to steal another man's mate."
His voice became firm.
"I have come to answer the Goddess's call."
The valley fell silent once again.
For the first time in her life, Lyra felt that fate was leading her toward a future she had never imagined.
And beneath the crimson glow of the Blood Moon, destiny had finally brought the Shadow King to his Queen.
