Chapter Two: I've Found My Luna

Kaleb's POV

"I said to ensure the candidates for the interviews are ready, Portia. Instead you had my coffee all over my shirt. Are you slow or something?" I snapped at my assistant. She held her head down and sighed. .

"I'm sorry sir. I'll let them up and there are 25 of them. Mr. Black would like to accompany you as well so the interviews will go by quickly and um, I don't want the interviews going into the hour of your meetings with Jeffrey Wycolf sir" She said swallowing hard.

"Just get out. Do your damn job and get me another coffee. This time I hope you'll try not to let your butter fingers spill the mug all over me" I said coldly as I opened my closet in my office taking out a freshly ironed black Armani suit.

I got dressed quickly looking through the resumes for my applicants. Afterward, I made my way back to the conference room where the interview will be held. Taking a seat, I browsed through my emails while I waited. The door opened and My best friend walked in with a beaming smile on his face dressed in a gray suit fitting his broad shoulders as well as his 6'2 built. He took the seat next to me giving me a grin.

"It's not nice snapping at your assistant Kaleb. People make mistakes" He said to me

"Just sit there and close your mouth. I don't have time to talk about butter fingers and she's the reason she's getting a demotion. She's messing up too much. Last week I almost lost a deal because she set the meetings back too far" I said to him clearing my throat as I checked my watch. It was almost 9 am.

"Ever thought that maybe it's because you're scary? Your shoulders are up, you never smile, and you're always giving your employees cold stares. I don't know about you but that's not a look I wanna see on a daily basis." He said to me

"Better demotion than unemployment. Anyway, our first applicant is here" I said as my wolf ears picked up on the two pairs of heels walking to my office. The door knocked and I shouted 'come in'. Portia walked in with a blonde girl.

"Good morning" The blonde said.

"Good Morning, please take a seat" I said sternly. She took a seat before us and Avery sneezed. The damn perfume.

I looked at her file and her name was Hailey Griffin. She wore a tight short black skirt, nude sleeveless sheer top and black pumps. Her hair was curled to perfection but she had too much make up on. Her cologne was also stifling making me cover my nose for a brief moment.

"So, may I ask you why you want this job, Ms. Griffin?" I asked her. She twisted her fingers and then smiled.

"I um, I actually want to pay bills." She said to me

"And have you had any working experience?" I asked. She chewed on her lip and then scratched her then. As she took her hand down from her neck, she slowly opened the cleavage of her blouse more to show her breast.

"I um, I worked at a coffee shop for 5 years now and I wanted a better paying job" She said

We asked a few more questions then she got up leaving the room with an extra sway in her hips. It's funny how this is how women lower their self respect. She won't be getting this job so I will advise her to keep looking. If you have to use your body to get a job, you're gonna have to use it to keep it considering the reason the employer hired you. I do not indulge in such acts . After 5 more interviews, the last one walked in and my wolf immediately got alert. Mate!

I looked over at the girl who has just walked in with a sleeping toddler in her arms. Avery told her to take a seat because I was so in love just by seeing her this once that I could barely speak. Her hair was dark almost black like mine, her body sat perfectly in her dress, her face wasn't caked with makeup nor did her cologne stifle me. She was just perfect. Mate! Mate! Mate! My wolf chanted.

As she was trying to situate the baby on her lap, her hand hit down the pencil holder on my desk and I quickly picked it up. I made my way around to her and asked permission to take the child from her arms. She swallowed hard and blushed then hand the child to me. Her face was so beautiful I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I could feel Avery's eyes on me as I took my seat holding the sleeping child on my lap.

"Um. I'm truly sorry about the inconvenience sirs. I just moved into the city yesterday and I didn't know anyone to keep her" She said looking at the child.

"That's alright. So, where are you moving from?" I asked her

"A small town called Maryland which is 72 hours' drive from here sir" She said. I smiled watching her posture and she was so intelligent.

"So Ms. Taylor, do you have any experience in being a personal assistant?" Avery asked her

"No sir, I don't. I have been working at a Library for the past 1 year and 7 months and it was good. I also used to work at the administration office back in my hometown at a high school." She said to him

"Alright and on your resume, it has no college credentials here or any of the sort, well besides the one you got in high school. May I ask why?" He asked. She shifted in her seat the sighed.

"I got pregnant in my last year of high school. Since I was pregnant, I couldn't go to college at the time and I lost my scholarship which result in me not going since I couldn't afford to. I had to raise my daughter because it's just the both of us. I'll understand if you can't give me this job considering me being inexperienced and my lack of qualifications sir" She said to him.

"Doesn't the child have a father?" I asked then she immediately got sad. Heartbroken even and it made my wolf angry at the thought of someone hurting my Mate. How dare he just leave her like this!

"Well that's not necessarily something I'd like to talk about but as I said, it's just the two of us." She said to me

"Okay mam I like your dedication so I'm sure Mr. Bentley here would love to give you this job. What hobbies do you possess? What were you going to study in college?" Avery asked her as the child stirred in my big hands. She looked exactly like her mom but with chubbier cheeks.

"Well I'm not sure if this is a hobby but I like arranging things, I like seeing them in order. I hate tardiness and I love computer work. I wanted to study computer science in college and become a Data Computer Analyst. I've wanted to be that since I was younger but dreams change" She said to him then my phone alarm went off for my early morning meeting. I stopped it feeling Avery's eyes on me.

"We won't hire you here" I said to her. Her eyes immediately show sadness and defeat.

"Um, Mr. Bentley why the rushed decision?" Avery asked and I could hear the surprise in his voice. I smiled

"How do you feel about being a librarian again? There's a library that has been closed for the past 4 months and no one had applied yet. You'll get good pay and if you haven't found a place yet, you could stay in the two bedroom apartment on the top floor of the library but that's only if you want." I said to her. She looked surprised then smiled.

"Though I haven't found a place, I couldn't ask you to stay there but I would like the job" She said politely.

"No, it hasn't been used for a while now and it's easier as well as closer. You won't have to take a taxi or drive to work. Just wake up and head down right? I can be honest and say I'm gonna be disappointed to not have you as my Personal Assistant but since you won't be working for me, we could be friends." I said to her. Her smile got brighter and she blushed making my wolf happily wag its tail.

"Sure I guess" She said to me then the door to my office knocked. Avery was looking between Ms Taylor and me but I didn't want to pay him much mind.

"So, I have a meeting soon. How about I walk you out?" I asked her. She nodded then stood up fixed her dress then grabbed her bag.

"I'd really like that" She said smiling. I myself stood up with the small child and Avery cleared his throat making me look at him. He had a smirk on his lips.

"I'll be back. Tell Portia I'll be running late for my meeting" I said to him

"I don't want to cause any trouble sir. Don't be late because of me" She said

"Believe me, it's fine. I want to" I said to her.

We left the office and walked towards the elevator. As soon as it opened, I let her step out before me and my employees were surprised. Honestly I couldn't wipe the smile off my face and my heart was beating fast I couldn't believe the child was still asleep. I opened the front door of the building and to my surprise, she was walking. I didn't see a car or anything.

"Thank you so much. You can hand her over now" She said motioning for me to give her the child. I sadly hand her over and she smiled

"I never got your first name" I said to her

"It's Elina. Yours?" She asked

"I'm Kaleb. Spelled with a K" I said to her. She smiled making me smile as well. Goddess, you have surprised me and blessed me.

"So I'm gonna take a cab. Maybe you should go up to your meeting" She said to me as the child lifted her head from her shoulder.

"Getting rid of me so soon?" I asked showing a hurt expression. Her eyes widen and she shook her head quickly.

"No, no. Um, I just don't want any problems. Also, could you email me or call me about the job? I'm staying at the hotel maybe 20 minutes from here and I have a few more nights there." She said to me

"Yes, your number is on the file" I said to her as I saw a taxi. I waved it down and it stopped. I opened the door for her and she got in. I closed the door then she waved at me as I walked the car drive away.

"You've been smiling since she walked into the conference room. May I ask why?" Avery asked through pack mind link standing next to me.

"Brother, I found my mate" I said to him through the mind link. My wolf was at peace now. He was happy but now that I have found my mate, I'm gonna protect her at all cost.
