“Hey gorgeous,” I said back as I reached out for a hug, and she leaned into my arms. She’s so warm and inviting, I wish I could introduce her to my friends, but I can never get them in the same space.
“It’s mr.walterburg’s class, so it went over smoothly, but I think someone was cheating off my exam.” We move to our lockers, and she slides to the floor in a sitting position.
“You think, did you see who it was?” I shrugged and opened my locker, switching my supplies for the next class.
“No, I just felt that eyes were on me. The person must’ve been desperate because it felt like he could’ve drilled a hole in my shoulder from looking so hard.” i chuckled. A strange expression crossed over her face before she masked it with a smile. So I guess something unpleasant just crossed her mind.
“You are so nice, letting people get away with that. Just be careful. People don’t know when enough is enough,” Her serious tone made me simply nod as I close my locker and sit on the floor with her laying my head on her shoulder.
I don't know why I feel so close to her, but she feels so homey I can resist.
“I’m going to miss you.” She said quietly, she’s been saying this for the last month. I’m guessing she is almost done with her high school credits, graduating early.
“Have I ever given you my phone number?” I asked, forgetting truly and wondering why I would wait this long to ask.
She chuckles. “I have a box of torn pieces of paper, with your number on it. But I still don’t have a new phone, Don't worry, you will be my first contact when I do.”
Oh that’s right
She gets up, and I follow.
“I will be leaving after exams. Take care of yourself Amelia, you are a really special girl. It was so nice meeting you.” She extends out her arms for a hug, but I hesitate, something about what she is saying feels off.
“You know you can always visit me. Even if you graduate, we can still be friends.” Feeling a little anxious, i give her a hug and hold her tight.
Why does this feel off?
“You are already my friend, silly.” She says while pulling away. She goes to turn, but I grab her, trying to connect with her one more time.
feeling like I needed to hold onto her a little while longer, as if it was the matter of me seeing her again. if I just waited a little longer with her.
“Why don’t we meet for a study night, just you and me?” I offered hurriedly,
if she saw my nervousness, she didn't make it known as she remained the same. She calmly smiles at me and nods her head.
I let out a breath of relief, really excited for this new step in our friendship.
“Let’s meet up in two days. My brother needs me to help him with a school project, or I would say tomorrow night.” Her smile fades, and an awkward silence makes my stomach begin to twist.
Please say yes, please say yes.
“I have an appointment that night, but if you don’t mind waiting for a while, I would love to come.” She said with another strange expression, but my excitement kept me from inquiring.
“I’m fine with that,” I squeeze her in another big hug, which makes her laugh.
She pulled away, this time turning fully.
“See you then, Lillian!” I call out and see her head drop, and her shoulders bounce as she laughs at my happiness.
