hunger

258 Words
When Bolu got home, she expected her roommate to have cooked, but all pots and pans were empty. She didn't feel like taking noodles, which would have been the easiest option. Instead, she decided to cook spaghetti and went out to buy fish and pepper. She had a special customer she bought fish from, but when she arrived, the woman wasn't around. She was told to wait for the daughter, who was bathing inside. Bolu sat on a plastic chair outside the compound, waiting. Just then, she heard "Boluwatife!" She looked back and saw Ola. "Oh, hey, what's up?" she greeted him. "I'm good," he replied. "What are you doing outside?" she asked. "I was strolling towards the bus stop and spotted you, so I decided to come say hi," he explained. "Okay, hope you're good," Bolu said. "Yeah, I am. You came to buy something, I guess?" he asked. "Yeah, I did," she replied. The woman's daughter came out and asked Bolu what she wanted. Bolu asked for fish, paid for it, and collected her purchase. As she turned to leave, she noticed Ola was still waiting. She walked towards her hostel with Ola by her side. "How was school?" Ola asked. "School was fine, but tiring. I'm so hungry," Bolu complained. "I can see that," he chuckled. "Hope you can cook?" he asked. "I can't, jare, but if you taste my hot water, trust me, you'll lick your plate," Bolu joked. Ola couldn't help but laugh. "Nice comeback," he said. "What do you think?" Bolu winked.
