CHAPTER 3

He stared at me in surprise. I'm sure he was wondering where I came from and why I was screaming in his office, but I didn't care. I just had to get this rant out and his office looked like a perfect outlet. “What did you just say?” He asked in disbelief. “You heard me, right?” “No, I didn't. Say what you just said again.” His eyes looked cold and hot at the same time. How is that possible? I felt like I could freeze under his stare and also felt like those eyes could melt me like butter in a hot pan. “You took a bribe from my husband, Mr Lawyer”, I said with a sneer on my face. He chuckled without mirth before giving a reply. “A bribe? From your husband? Who are you and who is your husband?” “I'm -” He cut me off before I could talk further. “Plus, why did you barge into my office like an uncultured person?” “Mr Lawyer, I -” “The name is Rein. Phillip Rein and not Mr Lawyer” “Whatever. I'm Emily and I need to know why you helped my husband in filing a divorce and committing other atrocities.” “Helped your husband with what? Woman, who is your husband?” He's standing now and the muscles on his biceps bulged through the impeccable white shirt he wore. The first two buttons on the shirt were opened. He rested his palm on his well-polished desk and looked me squarely in the eye. I mirrored his action and didn't let my gaze falter. “You, Mr Rein, helped my husband in filing for a divorce. A divorce that is not based on solid grounds, if I might add. In addition, you helped him in committing a crime against me” “And you're saying all of these based on what grounds? Woman -” “My name is Emily. Emily Grey”, I said with a smug look. “Okay. Mrs Grey -” I cut him off as a thought came to my mind. “On second thoughts, it's Emily Kale.” “Well, Madam Emily Kale, you need to get out of my office. I can't entertain your grievances. Your husband is my client, not you.” He stood up straight to his full length, towering over me. “Sorry, Mr Rein, but you will entertain me because I want you to”, I sat on one of the two swivel chairs meant for clients and crossed my legs at the ankles. He looked like he could kill me. He picked his phone and dialed a contact. “Is this security? I need you in my office now.” He actually called the security on me. I was also angry then. “You called security? Are you trying to avoid taking responsibility for your actions? I'm not leaving this office until you give me an audience”, I said stubbornly. “You lost the right to get an audience from me the moment you barged into my office and spoke to me in an uncouth manner.” Two security guys came into the office. Each looked like they could lift me with just a hand. “Please, show Madam Emily out. She was just leaving”, he said with a tight smile to the security officers. “I'm not ready to leave until you tell me the reason for doing what you did to me”, I was getting emotional now. I think I was having a meltdown. “For the last time, I didn't do anything to you”, he said in a raised voice, veins popping on his neck, “you should talk to your husband and not me. I only did my job.” “You did a wicked job, Mr Rein”, I'm sure my eyes were blazing with anger. “Please, take her out. He proceeded to sit in his seat to continue what he was doing before I intruded. The security guys held me. Each one holding one of my arms. They propelled me towards the door. I tried fighting them off but it was of no use. They were built like rocks. Before leaving the office completely, I yelled to the lawyer “I'll make sure I come back!” Phillip's POV People can be so ridiculous. Who does she think she is? Coming into my office and screaming at me like a banshee? People should learn to leave their uncultured manners in their various homes before leaving every morning. This woman's claims are just so ludicrous to my hearing. “My name is Emily. Emily Grey”, she said with a self-satisfied look I hate so much. She cut me off in the middle of my speech again. “On second thoughts, Emily Kale.” Well, I guess she's accepting the divorce for what it is already. I hoped she left me to finish this paperwork I'd been battling with since the beginning of the week. She was getting me furious. I needed to finish the work and go home to rest my back. I explained that she needed to leave as soon as possible. I didn't even know why I still explained. She invaded my privacy for goodness sake. I thought to call the security on her. Of course, she was shocked when they came in and she saw their sizes. Two mass of muscles standing before her and ready to lead her screaming self out of my office. I saw her pretty well-carved brows shoot up in surprise. I bet she didn't see that coming. She asked in a croaky but stubborn voice why I called security. I could see that she was breaking. My experience as a lawyer tells me she was only acting this way because she was tired and frustrated. “You lost the right to get an audience from me the moment you barged into my office and spoke to me in an uncouth manner.” “Please, show Madam Emily out. She was just leaving”, I said with a tight smile to the security officers. “You did a wicked job, Mr Rein”, her tear-glazed eyes were blazing with anger, and she was sniffing back her emotions. I wondered what she would do about her emotions when she's alone. The security ushered her out, but not without her screaming a final warning. Then, my phone rang.
