RAIN
Cole Henderson had exactly three minutes before I made a scene.
“Where is that spineless, cheating, sorry excuse for a boyfriend?” I stormed into the male locker room, the thought that there could be boys not "DECENT” flung out of the window.
"Ughh, we call him Junior Captain but okay.” One of Cole's friends, Matthew chuckled nervously and I bit the insides of my lip, anger surging through my veins.
"Oh I know what you call him! Eight months and he's still junior captain. Should have been my first red flag." I scoffed, my hands on my waist while fury burned through me.
"Baby?" I swerved almost immediately as he walked through the door, his brows lifted like he didn't expect to see me there.
"Baby? Really Cole? Did you think of me when you had your d**k deep down into Della's p***y?" He paused in his tracks, clearly taken aback.
"Woahhh." The other guys echoed but my head was spinning way too much to even consider if other people were in the room with us.
That was it with every cheat.
Always acting stupidly surprised when caught like they had no idea when they f****d.
I could tell.
The look on his face was the exact one dad had when he cheated on mom and got caught.
And in about 2 minutes, I was waiting to hear the legendary, "It isn't what you think. "
Yeah, dad said that too.
"Baby, can you calm down a bit? Can we...ugh, talk outside?" His eyes darted around nervously, sweeping in the amount of people in the locker room. A hint of shame appeared on his face.
"Guess who didn't think of shame when he was length deep into someone who wasn't his girlfriend? Yeah, right, Cole. You bloody bastard."
"Rain! Stop it. Let's talk outside." His voice was stern as he grabbed my wrist.
I wiggled out of his grasp almost immediately, my eyes landing on a hockey stick.
Before he could attempt to reach out to me again, I grabbed it and raised an eyebrow.
"I dare you, Cole. Pull me again, and I will split your head open. My family will cover the treatment, you piece of shit."
"Rain, baby, listen. It isn't what you think..." There it is. I knew it was coming.
"It was just a dumb night and I was drunk. I thought she was you." My eyes widened.
The audacity! I had been dating a genuinely stupid guy.
I had dated someone not even smart enough to come up with a good lie!
A dunce?
Yet he cheated? And I found out in the worst way possible. Della actually called me when they were in the middle of s*x, while she moaned and he grunted, screaming her name.
And yet he "thought" she was me.
"Della is a 5'2 blonde Cole. I am 5 '7 natural red hair! There's about 12 of us in the entire country, you absolute piece of s**t! We're done."
I yelled, raising the hockey stick and he instinctively lurched backward.
"Fine. If we're done, we're done. If you weren't an heiress, who would put up with your nasty behaviour?" Cole muttered, pulling off his hockey jacket as he hung it on the handle of one of the lockers.
I stilled. Nasty behaviour.
NASTY. BEHAVIOUR.
Eight months. Eight months of showing up to his games, sitting in those uncomfortable bleachers, defending him to my friends, ignoring the rumours and I had nasty behaviour?
My eyes widened as I turned slowly to him.
The corners of my lips contorted into a smile as I slowly bursted into laughter.
It came out slow and ugly and I watched Cole's expression shift slightly.
Good. He should be worried.
"Nasty behaviour, right? You never said any of that when you spent my money and swam in the glory of dating the daughter of one of the most influential families." I yelled back.
"And that's the only thing you have. Money. That's the only reason why any guy would date you. And I tried, okay? To love you. But damn, it is hard trying to have any emotional relationship when there's no intimate one." My lips pursed into a thin line.
“So this is because of s*x? Because I wouldn't let you—”
"God, no, Rain. Don't make me sound evil. You're always acting traumatic, like a girl who came from old money like you would have any real problems. All you know or care about is having a camera to your face and performing for your 'fans'. Nothing else. And trust me, I know that the thing about you having trauma and unable to participate in intimacy is a lie.” I bit down the insides of my lip.
My eyes were itching.
The last thing a Sterling like me would do was to cry over a cheating man. Mom did that and I swore never to.
I needed to leave. I needed to breathe.
I couldn't cry here.
Cole had used the very thing I told him at my freaking lowest to just talk back at me.
And one part of my heart knew, he was right. A bit, maybe.
Without sparing any other word, I turned and began walking out. He could go f**k himself for all i care.
“I'm lying? Cole, you —”
"God, I'm glad we're over. Now putting myself in your dad's position, I can understand why your dad cheated on her." His voice was getting distant like he was walking away too.
I paused.
Tears welled up in my eyes, Cole Henderson did not just say that to me.
And worse, maybe he was right. A bit.
But how dare he?
I blinked back the tears that were threatening to spill out.
“What did you say?” I muttered.
“I…I didn't mean that, Rain. We both just need a bit of space right now.” I heard his footsteps retreating backwards towards their restroom area and a few seconds later, the door clicked shut behind him.
Silence.
Not real silence. The locker room was full of people. I could feel them, every single one of them, watching me.
Waiting. Holding their breath to see what Rain Sterling would do now that the cameras weren't rolling and the audience was real.
I didn't move. I couldn't move.
"Rain, I'm sure Cole didn't mean it. Emotions are high at this moment but you both—" One of his friends was saying when I raised a finger and cut him off midway.
"No. It's good content anyway for an influencer like me."
But why do i have to swallow up all this anger and let him go with all the notorious things he just said.
Why would I be the bigger person and swallow my pride when I was clearly small and petite?
My eyes found his jersey still hanging on the locker handle. Blue and white. Slightly crumpled. His Number, 17, on the back
I walked toward it slowly. Something dark and twisted curling up in my head.
Nobody stopped me. Nobody said a word.
I pulled it off the hook, folded it once under my arm like it was always mine, and turned toward the exit.
He said all I knew was to perform for my 'fans' and he was right and I was damn good at it so I was going to give them something worth their while.

"Hi guys, it's your fashion queen, Rain and welcome to the part where I stop being the bigger person."
The comments flooded in immediately.
"RAIN is Live."
"Omg, she's crying???"
"She's NOT crying, look at her face."
"Rain, what happened bestie?"
"Aren't we doing fashion inspo's today?"
I laughed at that last one.
"So...today will be a little different. We're not gonna be doing fashion inspo's or beauty hacks," I held the jersey up to the camera with one hand.
"You guys know I've been dating Cole Henderson, 'Junior Captain' for eight months, right?"
More comments.
"Cole from the Vipers??"
"COLE HENDERSON??"
"Are you both finally going officially public?"
"Eight months." I repeated. "Eight months and apparently I'm loud, annoying, traumatic AND he thought Della Morrison was me." I tilted my head. "Della. Is. A. Blonde."
The comments lost their minds.
"DELLA?? DELLA MORRISON??"
"HE CHEATED??"
"RAIN PUT THE JERSEY DOWN—"
"Consider this a review from me. He's deadass a 2/10. Really sour. Will turn on you and blast insults the second he gets a chance."
I picked up a lighter and smiled, over 200k people were watching this livestream.
This was my revenge. He didn't think he would open up a sore spot and I'd let him be, right?
I lit the lighter and brought it directly to the hem of the hockey jersey.
The flame caught immediately, I held it for a while longer, my head reminiscing all the good times and bad times we had spent together.
Of course, I felt sad. Of course I felt like my heart was ripping from within but I wasn't about to let him know that.
"WAIT—"
"RAIN THAT JERSEY DOESN'T SAY COLE—"
"THAT SAYS GRANT—"
"SIS THAT'S A 7 NOT A 17—"
"RAIN STERLING JUST BURNED DOMINIC GRANT'S JERSEY ON A LIVE STREAM OH MY GOD—"
"OR WAIT, COULD DOMINIC BE THE EX? I'M SO CONFUSED. ARE THEY NOT LIKE ENEMIES?"
"WHERE DID SHE EVEN GET HIS JERSEY?"
“I knew there was something wrong with their whole college rivalry."
I looked down.
The number staring back at me through the flames.
7, not 17.
GRANT.
Not Henderson.
How did I even take Dom's jersey, that absolute scum of the earth? And he was senior captain.
I stared at the camera for three full seconds.
"...Good content though." I muttered.
