Chapter 22

1038 Words
Chapter 22 It’s the hard part, that comes after the most feared struggle. Jake’s POV, If I go out and interview police officers, FBI agents, soldiers, ask them how many lives they’ve saved in their years of service, I doubt even the five percent of them could claim they have. It’s because no one get the chance to really go out and save lives as they thought before joining the force. A hospital nurse had saved more lives in a year than an entire precinct did in a decade. And for the first time in our lives, we had the chance to put this man behind bars, who commits without batting an eye and pin it on innocents. This is the first real chance we have to save the lives he's ruined and been ruining ever since. We have hard evidences of this man’s crimes. Calling him a man is yet another insult and an animal is too. He’s not a man, he’s monster. We walk inside the precinct; we don’t sit on our desks. Desks doesn’t mean anything. The files and the papers and the CCTV footages, all packed in a box covered with a lid we dash it to Captain’s desk. He was on the phone, back at us, only the sound of that heavy box meeting the wooded surface brought his attention to us. To me, he glared at me, shot bullets with his eyes. “What are you doing in this precinct Wilson?” He still had no idea my ID was missing from his seize. “I remember suspending you. and it isn’t over yet.” “You told me to prove that I deserves this job. I needed a chance to save my job, Captain. I couldn’t sit at home and wait for things to happen on their own. Besides what I have will make you take back you decision.” My words, all directed at him with all my might and sincerity. I knew at the end of the day, he will be patting our backs for the work we’ve done so I feared nothing. “So, I hope you know it’s your last chance. You need to give me something this time. something concrete.” “That’s why we brought you this.” We carefully marked and separated every evidence we spend watching entire last night. Thankfully we didn’t have to sleep or it would’ve been a night full of nightmares and monsters appalling us. I'll just catch him first and sleep peacefully on my bed tonight. Emily connected the card reader to the computer. “The reinvestigation you entrusted us with has finally ended. We know who the victim is now.” “What the heck?” he panicked just as the card began to play on the screen. “Where did you get that from?” he ran to shut the blinds on his windows. “Are you guys trying to kill me? what the heck is that?” We played the next. It was worse than the first. Like the first, that girl wasn’t just ties and gagged. She was beaten, forced for s*x and tied, for days. I wasn’t even watching the footage, I was watching Captain’s expressions and I know exactly what he was looking at. He had the same expressions as Emily. “This.” Emily put on the tape we kept separated from the others. “Nick and Ari.” I look back to the screen. I see Nick, tied behind her back, forced by two bouncers like man to the room, he was thrown on the floor, he screamed and struggled all the time, but those guards were too much for a fifteen-year-old to handle. He was powerless. He didn’t surrender. But Ari, she was too drunk to even walk straight. She was brought in and tied next to Nick. They were there for two days. Many things happened in those two days. Nick was mercilessly beaten every time he tried to scream for help, or try to talk to Ari. He was beaten like he was no human but a punching bag to have them vent their anger on, every hour, with bat, kicks, punch. He bled and broke and cried every minute of those day. No footage before had anyone murdered, but this was pure torture on two helpless children. Nick gave up before the day could end. He left the world, the torture on his was constant, too severe. And it was all over the screen. I watched it, no matter how many times I had to count one to ten, how many times I tasted vomit in my mouth, how many times I was lightheaded, I watched it till the end. I needed to learn the monsters should never be forgiven. I needed to watch things like them exist, that Emily was right, I had to change. I needed to remember this image so clear for the rest of my life. I needed this anger to channel myself. While Nick was beaten Ari was r***d, not once, not by one man. But one thing all those men had in common, all of them wore a silicon mask. The same kind of mask. They were all in business suits and never stripped down, except for the man with the skull tattoo. His face was clear in many footages and those weren’t from the CCTV. He purposefully recorded all that, he isn’t a normal criminal we came across during this job. He was a psychopath, he feel no sympathy for any of those girls. “How did you get these?” Captain asked, more dumbfounded than before. “He had all these in his office.” I answer. “He didn’t even care to hide them. he was so confident he’ll never be discovered.” Emily threw out every piece of evidence out of the box onto the table. “We can use all this and put him to jail. Captain, this guy Nick, he deserves justice. He is not the r****t and a sadist he was convicted, even though he is dead, his family still bears that weight. We need to free him, we need to free them.”
