Chapter 42 Jake's POV “Jake, I bared myself in front of you and you still chose to leave. Do you think we can even have this conversation? We both hurt each other beyond imagination, I hurt you the most. Do you think we can go on past together? I don’t know if we can.” I nodded in a no. “I don’t think we can.” I say as I feel, all my relationships ended this way. I guess it’s because of dad, he is my father and he don’t trust me but I can't keep him out of my life. I don’t want more people like him. I just want someone who can trust me, love me, like mom. “I've already resigned. I'm no longer a cop. I don’t think we even have any reason to meet after this. I'll go back to a life I deserve and you’ll live a life you deserve.” She moved away. “You're right.” she patted her knees. “We are no longer partners. It’s fair that we won't meet again after this.” “I'll take Jerry away.” I tell her. “I don’t want him to be here and it’ll kill him. He will go back with mom and dad. I'll leave after I see through things here.” “Actually I—” Her phone started to ring. She pulls it out of her pocket and answered. Few seconds past and she put back her phone and stood up. “The results are in. we can go now.” we rush back inside to Captain’s office. “Captain. What do we have?” Captain was with doctor Sullivan, who did the forensic test. And I guess the profiler might not be coming since we can only get the physical profile of the possible killer. “It’s the same pattern down to the details.” Captain says. “That’s what the profile says. It confirms that the killer is the same. The cauterized wounds, the detailed precision in mutilation. The shape of the tattoo. Every damn details,” he slammed the file on the table. “Just this time, the victim is a well-known celebrity.” I know what he is thinking, this news is going to make it big on the news, even bigger then before. all her thousands and millions of followers would demand answers. Things would’ve been worse if the news broke to the media. It’s just a matter of time. “Do you think he is upping his game?” I had to say. “I think he is growing impatient. I think he is getting sloppier. I think he was waiting for something he can no longer wait.” Captain said. “Just this time he disposed the body without taking his time with torture. Maybe because she wasn’t her type. He didn’t want her, but he still killed her and for that reason I think he took her with some other motives not just r**e and murder.” Sullivan said. “And we do have a theory.” Captain added. “It’s confirmed that it has something to do with you, Jake. Everything comes down to you.” “Me?” “Unfortunately, yes.” Sullivan put the file into my hands. “The killer was sloppy and as a result there are several traces of DNA on Stella’s body. So, we investigated the DNA and it’s the same as yours.” “Which means—” “—either I am the murder or the murderer is f*****g with me. for some reason I am involved even when I don’t want to.” “And since we have all your traced alibi and CCTV footage.” Captain added. He isn’t the one I handed my resignation to. he’s much more impatient. “We know now that you are not the killer. So, it has to be someone else. Do you know someone who would do this?” “I can't imagine anyone I know to be a psychopath. There can be many, or no one. I meet so many people for work, anyone of them could have done this.” “Alright.” He sighed. “Since, you're a civilian now, you will get only the things any other civilian would get. You can leave.” Just when I needed the most to be on the case, I'm being kicked out. “But Captain.” “I'm not your Captain anymore Wilson. We can't compromise the case sharing details with a civilian. You are involved enough already.”
