Chapter 29 Jake’s POV, “Everyone present here,” Captain stand across the podium stand and said, “I am Kyle Johnson, investigating the brutal r**e and murder of Ari Smith and Nick Jacobs that was three years ago. My detectives Emily Davis and Jake Wilson was investigating the murders of the said teenagers, aged fifteen at the time of their murder. Due to lack of evidences both physical and forensics due to the state of their bodies three years ago, the case was concluded as a murder suicide, alleged Nick as the suspect. But with some new evidences surfacing, and a thorough investigation provided us with the proof that business man Mr. Robby Crawford was involved in the case. Actually, he was the real perpetrator behind it. him and his several unidentified partners committed the crime which involves at least seven counts of child s****l abuse, their illegal distribution, eight counts of k********g and assault and two counts of first-degree murder. We have all the proves we needed to arrest him to get the information about his partners who were found masked in the video evidences we found. When I went to his residence for the arrest after a tip-off that he’s been trying to flew the country, he tried to shoot me with his rifle that he keeps in his house. When I try to get him in the cuffs, he ran off to the roof of his home and jumped off. He is in surgery now; doctors are looking after him for a recovery so we can track down the partners who were with him in the act.” He puts down the paper. “If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.” “Why do you think no one reported him for assaults before?” a man asked “Robby is a renowned businessman in this town. From the information we have, he’s been using money and power to scare and silent people from showing up as witnesses. We will run a thorough investigation on the matter and share it with the media soon.” Another one raised his hand. “Yes.” “You have been a regular at his clubs and restaurants. You two were friends for many years. What would you want to say about the negligence of the police about the matter?” “I can assure you gentleman if I had a slightest idea of what he’s been doing behind the cover of his businesses, I would’ve been the first one to bring him to justice.” With that the personnel left and it was time for us to go too. “Detectives,” Captain called and we both directed to him. “You’ve worked hard today. tomorrow will be a better day. And Jake,” he never calls me by my name, “you did good.” He smiles. I can't believe my eyes. “You too Emily. Now good night, I should go before my wife wakes get angry.” Emily and I exchanged looks as if telling each other about the miracle we just experienced. “Captain,” Emily runs to him, “now can you award us by letting us work with you on the serial killer case.” “What?” “We will work really hard.” Emily said but the look on Captain’s face was evident that he isn’t gonna be convinced easily. “So, this was your intentions. And I was wondering what got into you to suddenly work so much harder. Fine, I'll give you a chance, but just mistake and you’ll be out of the investigation.” He demanded and of course we will agree. “We will work even harder.” I say this time. He pats on my shoulder, “good.” And he left. Emily lunged onto me as soon as he disappeared through the door. “I told you we can do it.” I hugged her back. I don’t speak, I'm just happy. Too happy. “Now,” she pulls away, “you remember out bet. Now, you're my slave.”
