Chapter Sixteen February 1987 Beck Beck avoided his neighbors Valerie and David like the plague. He was just too embarrassed to face them after what had happened with Yvonne. He was wrong to let Valerie fix him up to begin with. He should have known better. He obviously wasn’t ready for another girl yet. He missed his dear friends, but he wasn’t up for a lecture from Valerie. He timed it perfectly, if he scooted out of work at exactly 5:28, he’d miss Valerie by the seat of his pants if he ran from his car in the parking lot up to his second-floor apartment.
