A Deal

OLIVIA Dillon stands up from the ground naked, his clothes torn and lost somewhere in the dark. The bodies of the other werewolves are still on the ground dead or maybe just unconscious. Michael, who left me behind the small shrub pleading with me to stay quiet, walks over to them and Dillon says something to him. He begins ferrying the bodies off to somewhere, and Dillon walks over to me. He stands in front of me, his intimidating height forcing me to tilt my head up to see his face. "You saw everything," he says. "You lied to me," I reply, realizing just how unsafe I am here. "Those people were after me, they were going to kill me all because of you." "But I fought for you, I protected you. No one will harm you as long as I'm alive. I went against the rules I proposed all for you." "Shut up, Dillon!" I yell, a layer of tears in my eyes blurring my vision. "You did it all for your selfish reasons. You did it to keep your position as alpha. I heard everything." "Olivia, listen," he says, holding either side of my face as he wipes the tears that pool out of my eyes with his thumbs. "I admit I got you caught up in this whole thing and I apologize for that. I'll take care of everything soon and you'll be safe." "You won't take care of anything, Dillon. As if going against the alliance wasn't enough, you fought your allies. I don't know how it goes here but in our world, such a move would just make things a lot worse." "I don't care how much worse things will get, Ollie. You don't understand, Okay? All I could think about at that moment was you. It's crazy but you're a big part of my life and there's nothing either of us can do about it." "What's that supposed to mean?" I ask, frowning. He lets go of my face and sighs, "I can't make you understand. It's not love, It's a bond that you can't clearly understand." "You're using me, aren't you?" I ask. "If I heard your allies clearly, there was a choice. Why didn't you reject me as your mate?" "That's an abomination in this pack, we behead whoever rejects a mate. I considered rejecting you but I can't lead myself to my own grave," he says. "You're such a selfish asshole, Dillon. Set me free or I'll ruin you and your people." "What will you do?" he asks, looking into my eyes under the night light. "I'll expose you and your secrets to other humans," I say, deadpan. "If you want to keep your position through me, allow me to at least have access to my phone and let me visit Isabella twice a month." He hesitates, as if thinking about it, and then extends his hand towards me, "We have a deal but only on one condition." "What?" I ask, afraid to shake his filthy hand. "You'll be under a spell whenever you go into the human world. That's the only way to protect our secret and our alliance with the other packs. They have to be assured that you won't give us in or say anything to humans that'll lead them to us." "f**k you!" I say, walking away from him. "You're back," Rissa says, walking to the door to hug me when I walk into the cottage, "I was so worried about you. I hope they didn't touch or hurt you." "Dillon is such an asshole," I say, "everyone is in danger because of his selfish reasons." "I hate to defend him but that's how he gets to solve most of the problems we face in the pack. You can trust him to protect you and all the pack members in whatever situation. You're right, though, that doesn't change the fact that he's an asshole," Rissa says, guiding me to the dinner table. "Come and eat something." I sit down and eat, my thoughts shadowing even the taste of the food in my mouth. When I'm done, I get to my bedroom and change into my nightwear. I'm about to turn my light off when I notice Dillon watching me again but I ignore him and sleep. I wake up to the sound of a strong wind crushing against my window. It's still dark so I turn my bedside lamp on and climb out of bed to make sure I closed the window correctly. I notice a figure standing, facing the direction of my bedroom but it's not Dillon. It's a feminine figure, a familiar figure. When I open the window to take a closer look, the woman runs away. I grab my robe and walk outside, following the direction she went but I don't spot her anywhere. Giving up, I go back to my cottage and get back to sleep. *** "Alpha Dillon is here for you," Rissa says, walking into my bedroom when I invite her in after several minutes of repeated knocks. "What does he want?" I ask, sleepy. "I don't know but I'm sure it's good. He seems to be in a good mood today," she says, smiling. "Come on, get up." I sit up and she helps me into my robe, following behind me as I walk into the living room. "What do you want?" I ask, sitting opposite him. "Get yourself ready, you're going to see your sister today." I try to hide my smile but my mouth betrays me, "Give me five minutes." "You remember the condition, though, right?" he asks when I walk back into the living room. I nod, "Of course I do." "Right," he says, standing up. "let's go." I walk beside him as he leads me to a house I've never been. He walks in without knocking and I follow his lead. A man, not as tall as him emerges from one of the rooms. "We finally got a visit from the Luna," the he says, sitting on one of the couches and gesturing for us to sit down. "Hey, Marshall. You're going to do this as fast as you can, I'm running late," Dillon says and the man whose name I've just learned is Marshall, nods. "It's a short spell, it won't take a lot of time," he says. Judging from the strangeness of the house, I'm guessing Marshall is a wizard. "Marshall is a wizard," Dillon says, taking me by surprise. "He's the strongest one we have in this pack, after capturing him from a neighboring pack some years before the peace alliances were signed...some years ago when my father was the alpha." Marshall clears his throat, "can I do it now?" "Of course," Dillon says and Marshall begins twirling his fingers before my eyes, chanting spells I don't understand. He snaps his thumb and forefinger, and my body jerks, making me realize that he put me in a trance but nothing feels different or weird. "I'm done," he says and Dillon stands up, extending his hand towards me. "You've been a good girl, Ollie. Let me take you to your world."
