Father's Announcement

MARA 

 While I'm preparing for my class tomorrow,  my mom is in the kitchen preparing lunch. Today is Sunday. Last day of winter vacation. I'm kinda sad because I won't be able to wake up late. After my preparation for tomorrow's class, I brought my laptop to our living room and decided to watch BoyzTown videos. My mom and my dad are both great cooks. I love my mom when she cooks Filipino food, especially Sinigang, a famous soup in the Philippines while I love my dad's bulgogi. I love to eat but at the same time, I need to watch my weight.

 "Mara, dear. Can you help me with today's lunch?" mom said while I'm watching my fave boyband on my laptop in our living room. "Ok, mom. Give me a sec." I replied happily. As soon as my laptop turned off, I walked straight to the kitchen and asked my mom what to prepare. I washed my hands before doing anything. My mom is a little strict when it comes to cooking. "Cut the onions, then the carrots and potatoes. After that cut the pork into cubes. I already washed the vegetables and meat." mom instructed me. After cutting, she told me to call Mellie in her room and tell her to help us too. I went to Mellie's room and told her to come with me to the kitchen and help me and mom. She walked with me towards the kitchen and washed her hands. Mom, Mellie, and I happily prepared our lunch. Mom cooked Mellie's and dad's favorites, Afritada and Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup), both dishes are delicious. Of course, mom cooked it. 

 After preparing and cooking, I called my dad in his home office. As I come near to his office, I heard him talking, "That would be a great partnership. Our company and their company will have greater value in the stock market." I keep on listening. "I'm sure the boys will be happy to be in our company. Their value is in the stock market is getting higher. They are phenomenal in whatever they are doing." Who is dad talking to? what does he mean by "boys"?  These questions suddenly popped into my head. I'm kinda nervous about what dad is saying. Nevertheless, I knock on the door and waited for his signal for me to come in. "Come in!" dad said. I went in with a smile and ask, "Who were you talking to dad? Sorry for eavesdropping, I didn't mean to." Dad showed me his happiest smile. I have never seen that from him and said, "Well, for the past months, I was working on this project with another company. I was having difficulty at first but now, here I am. I was able to get Boyz for the company's new campaign." Did I just hear dad say Boyz as in Boyz of Helium Company? Like Boyz, Boyz, my Boyz? Boyz that I'm going crazy about? So I asked with the biggest grin on my face, "You mean Boyz of Helium Company? Boyz of the most famous boyband in the world?" He replied while standing up, "Yes, dear! I got them for the newest campaign of the company. We will have our contract signing on Wednesday, so it will be the biggest event for the company." My smile suddenly went to sadness, "Why will you have your contract signing on a Wednesday? I'm in class by that time!! Why dad? Why?" And he laughs a little while walking towards me, "My dear, I know you love them, but this is just a contract signing, you'll meet them eventually. You've been to their concerts, right?" "Well, yeah but I've never been close to them. I've never touched them too. You know, it's my dream to talk to them someday." And he just replied me with a kiss on my forehead and went out of his office.

 My older can't join us today because he has a project to attend but he said he'll try to catch up for dinner. My family and I sat on our respective chairs in the dining area and said our grace before meals. "I have an announcement to make," said dad. "As you know, I have been working on a campaign for the past months together with another company. This is the biggest campaign I'll ever handle in my entire business career. The company that I'm working with is Helium Company. And they were happy that Boyz took the campaign without any second thoughts." My sister looks at me and said, "Why you don't look happy? I thought Boyz is your fave boyband?" I replied with my dramatic voice, "Well dad chose Wednesday as the day of their contract signing. I have class that time." Then my mom said to me, "Well, honey, there will be another time for you to meet them. It's just a contract signing. I'm sure dad wants you to be there when they shoot the campaign ad." And with that, I smiled. We ate our lunch.

After lunch, Mellie volunteers herself to wash the dishes while I wipe the dining table. Mom and dad went straight to the home office to discuss the contract properly. After cleaning the kitchen, Mellie and I went to the living room to watch our favorite variety show. While Mellie and I are watching I heard my phone beep. I received a text message from my brother.

*Milo Oppa: How's lunch? Sorry was not able to catch up :(

*ME: It was deliiiiiiiicious. Eomma did another great job in cooking. And appa announced the greatest news for the company. Did you eat lunch?

*Milo Oppa: I want to cry knowing eomma, cooked delicious food. Huhu :(( What is appa's greatest news? Yup, I did with your Nikki unnie. But I'll be home for dinner. ;D

*ME: LeeLim Corporation has a new campaign and its ambassadors will be Boyz. The saddest part, I won't be able to meet them because appa said their contract signing will be this Wednesday.

*Milo Oppa: They haven't started rolling. for sure, appa wants you to be there once they start shooting for the ad campaign.

*ME: I know. Eomma also said that. Anyways, see you for dinner. Take care and drive safe. Mwah.

 You might be asking me why we call our parents eomma and appa. Well, basically, we grew up in Korea and speak in Korean. 

 After that exchange of texts, I focused again on the tv show. Mellie and I laugh out loud because of its contestants. Then, Mellie fell asleep after the show. As for me, I opened my laptop and looked for companies who are hiring for an On the Job Training (O.J.T) with the major I'm taking. I'm planning to get my OJT in the second semester this year. There are a lot of great companies and there are also worst. I need five companies to choose from. As I am scrolling down, I see websites full of OJT hiring, and one of them is Helium Company. I really want to apply there because there will be a lot of opportunities for me to learn. Aside from that, if you finish your OJT  with good conduct and moral, you get to be a trainee of whatever field or major you are taking, under that company right after your finish your OJT schedule. Or the company might give you special training in another country under that company if they see your determination and hard work while being an OJT. So as you see, the opportunities there are really great. There are also great companies aside from Helium Company, but as you know, BoyzTown is under that company and if I get to be an OJT there, it will be one step closer to my dreams.

    After choosing five companies, I started to make my resume. I made sure that I put my honest background. I'm pretty sure few months before the first semester ends, our department will ask for our resume. So I can edit it and print it once they'll be asking me. 

*DINGDONG*

Someone's outside. I checked our doorbell monitor to see who it is.

I opened the door with a wide smile and open arms, it is Milo oppa. 

 "How's my yeodongsaeng (younger sister)?" Milo oppa said while hugging him. "Still the sassy and most beautiful yeodongsaeng." I answered back. "Mellie and I left you some dessert because we know you love tiramisu." "Finally, something to make my stomach happy after that huge project" Milo oppa said. We walk together to the kitchen. "Mellie fell asleep again in the living room?" Milo oppa said while raising his eyebrows and rolling his eyes. "Yup, she got tired after eating and watching," I replied. "Ah! That's Mellie for sure!" Milo oppa knows us very well. You might be thinking why Milo oppa is still with us. Well, our parents are kinda old-fashioned. Even if you are 30 years old and still not married, you still have to be in the house but if you are working in a faraway country or city, you can rent a house but you have to be on your own. Since Milo oppa's work is within the city, he still stays with us, even if he has a beautiful and wife-material girlfriend. 

 "Ah! This tiramisu is still the best dessert ever!!" Milo oppa said after eating one spoon. We are not in the dining room, sitting. "How was work?" I asked him while his getting another spoonful of tiramisu. "Mr. Kim, the owner of the building I'm in charge of, has a lot of ideas. I think I am getting crazy because of all the alterations he wants. Even the smallest details, he never missed a spot. I swear, I'm going on a vacation after this project." He said then eats the spoonful of tiramisu. " Are you ready for tomorrow?" he asked me. "Yes, I am!" I said with an exciting tone. "I have already chosen five companies for my OJT." "What are they?" he asked again then ate another spoonful of tiramisu. "Helium Company, where BoyzTown is, Telepath Company, Star Artist Company, KTZ Corporation, and JJ Corporation," I replied. Then he smirked at me, "What was that for?!" "I know you well, I'm one hundred and ten percent sure that you are praying for Helium Company to accept you, right?" he knows me pretty well. "Of course! But whatever company is destined for me, I will work hard and do my best to apply in Helium Company after that." I said then smiled at him. "Just make sure you enjoy the company and the work that is being laid on you. Trials, challenges, and difficulties will come and go but make sure to learn from those. And that will make you the best of you." he gave me the best advice. "I will, oppa"

 Dad suddenly appeared in the dining room with a piece of paper. "Hi Milo! How was work?" dad greeted Milo oppa. "It was crazy and exhausting, but no worries, you know your son, coolness under pressure." Milo oppa said. "That's great son! if you need help, you know where to come," he said to Milo oppa with a wink. "Yes, appa. Thank you!" Then he continued eating the tiramisu. "Mara, dear, can you check the names of BoyzTown. I'm not quite sure with their names but I know you know them by heart." "Thanks, appa, that is kinda embarrassing," then we all laughed. "Kim Namgi, Kim Jinho, Min Yongho, Jung Hosung, Park Jihun, Kim Taemin, and Jeon Junghoon, they are all correct appa." I said with a big smile on my face. "Ah! That was a relief," dad said. "How's the preparation app with this campaign?" Milo oppa asks while washing his spoon and plate. "Your eomma and I are nervous because the ambassador for this campaign is a global, phenomenal group. I hope there wouldn't be a big issue in the middle of the campaign," dad replied while shaking his head and rubbing his forehead. "I wish you the best of luck dad! If you need help, just call me, I'll help in any way I can." Milo oppa said walking towards dad and tap his shoulder for reassurance. "Thanks, Milo! Take a rest. We'll eat dinner outside, ok!" dad said with a big smile on his face. "It's the last day of winter vacation, we need to party!" he turns around and dances away like a little boy. "Okay, appa!" Milo oppa and I replied in unison and laugh because of dad's little happy dance.

 It was five o'clock in the afternoon when mom knocked on my door. "Are you ready?" she said. "I'll just tie my hair, then I'll go down," I replied. "Okay, dear!" mom said the closed the door. I'm wearing a below-the-knee length, blue, floral dress and a black denim jacket. Then I paired it with my white combat fashion boots, dangling pearl earrings, and a pearl necklace. After tying my hair, I am ready. I went downstairs right away. Mellie and Milo oppa are chatting by the entrance door. "Let's go!" I said with a smile. "Eomma! Let's go! I'm hungry already." Mellie shouted. Mom is still upstairs. "Coming!" mom said while coming down the stairs. "Where's appa?" I asked. "He's in the car already, waiting for us," Mellie said. 

 We all ride in dad's car then he starts the engine and drives off to the restaurant.
