Chapter 18

CONRADS POV ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ As we approached the warehouse, Lucas started the cloaking spell. We stood hand in hand for a few minutes while he spoke his chants and once it was done we edged our way forward. There was no noise and from first impression it all seemed derelict, but something was clinging to my gut like a bad smell lingered at nostrils. Dread surrounded this place, and it felt like you could almost smell the adrenaline coming from the three of us. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Rounding the corner, I was the first to spot the bodies on the ground. As we got closer the smell was pugnant. At least three bodies lay lifeless, one beheaded. Weapons surrounded them and it was clear then that these were a part of the mafia, somebody had taken them down without even a struggle. "Oh my god" gasped Harry. Lucas put his hand to his mouth, in disgust of the view or possibly the smell. Both were far from pretty. I entered the building with the others behind me, and no daylight was seeping in so I used a torch to get a better view. There was a man tied to a chair, and another on the floor merely meters away from him. The guy in the chair was covered in tattoos, and wore a thick leather jacket. Even un-alive, this man portrayed power. "There's nothing here" I spoke aloud. "Was this really a vampire?" Harry mumbled. I nodded, making my way over to them at the door. Harry stepped around me, shining her own flashlight. She entered deeper, to bravely inspect who I assumed to be malcoms body. She moved his neck, and I heard a sharp gasp as she came to the realisation that it was infact a vampire. ⠀⠀ To my surprise she walked past the body with her hand still to her mouth. Her flashlight pointed at the floor north of the room. Something shone underneath it, a piece of jewelry maybe. She lifted it to inspect it and I began walking over to her. "You can take the cloaking spell off" she whispered, still loud enough to hear. "What is it Harry?" I questioned. There was silence, until she turned to me with watery eyes. "It's a bracelet, it belonged to my father" she stuttered, a small sob leaving her as she curled over and began to heave. I ushered her outside, rubbing her back. At this moment Lucas' phone began to ring and he stepped away to answer it. ⠀⠀ "Shh" I comforted her, holding her hair back as she vomited. I assumed it wasn't the vulgar smell but the realisation that the murderer was likely her father, meaning he was probably not in the clear of murdering a few more people before we found him. Also leaving the question of his reaction to being found and the danger it puts me and my pack in. This made things a lot harder that it already was, especially since we had no idea where he went other than the fact that it was in the direction of the small town he had murdered two innocent people. Her heaving slowed down and she slid her back against a distant tree. Sobs still leaving her and her body trembled. Lucas was put of sight now, I assumed he was talking to the others and updating them on the situation. After a couple more minutes he walked back over. "They'll be here in roughly an hour, we should meet them at the sight point to make it easier for them. I nodded, and suddenly a swift breeze hit the back of my legs. When I turned around Harry was gone. "s**t" I shouted. "Lucas, you get back to height point, I'll go to find her" I said, running a hand through my hair. She was taking this much harder than I anticipated. He nodded and turned to walk, and I started to run in the direction of the wind that almost knocked me off my feet. ⠀⠀ I ran as quick as my legs could carry me, looking around desperately in hopes that she would stop to at least throw up again. Her scent was locked so I knew I was heading in the right direction. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ HARRYS POV ⠀⠀ All I could do was keep running, the air hitting my face was the only thing that stopped me from passing out. The news that my father was most likely to be a Werewolf killer, addicted to their blood and now killing innocent people was too much to bear. He was a monster, but I never wanted to imagine him that way, he was my loving, generous, kind father. I gulped down breaths of the fresh air and stuck at my pace, but after at least 30 minutes I stopped. My legs were weak but my heart felt much weaker, I curled into a ball on the ground and let my wails out. I cried uncontrollably and felt the shreiks leaving me but did not understand where they were coming from. It was like my body had taken over completely, I felt possessed. ⠀⠀ Soon the darkness crept over me, numbing the pain that crippled me as if it were a serious car accident. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I woke because I was moving, but wrapped tightly so my arms couldn't move and I felt pressure underneath my thighs. I didn't want to open my eyes, my cheek was pressed against cool cotton and the smell of water mint was filling my nostrils. I groaned in sleepiness and opened my eyes, they were met with a pair of green orbs looking down at me. "Shh, I got you" he whispered. I smiled and closed my eyes again, passing out in his muscly arms feeling temporarily soothed. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I woke up feeling heavy headed and it was pounding. It was dark, and I could hear a light snoring coming from beside me. I jumped as I turned to see Conrad next to me sleeping, I was beneath the sheets and he was on top of them. I smiled at his chivalrous ways and tried to get myself up so I could see if there was any water or something to take the pain away but as I looked around o realised we were in a motel. There was nothing but our bed and a bathroom. I ran the tap and begrudgingly drank some of the horrible tasting water that gushed from it, it took away the dryness in my mouth but left a horrible taste. I stood over the sink for a minute whilst the pain shot through me. "You okay?" I heard his husky voice come from behind me. I jumped slightly, and turned to face him. "My head is throbbing with pain" I stammered. He ran a hand through his hair and looked at his feet. "We don't have anything here, since you know, you kinda took off" ⠀⠀ He was nervous, probably didn't want to upset me. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that" I replied, sitting down on the bath. "It's understandable, it's a lot to take in" he said, sitting next to me. "He can be cured you know?" He asked. I looked at him. "What will it take?" "Detox, a diet plan, and time" he smiled softly. I smiled in return, and dropped my head to my chest. I was worried about what he would be like when we found him, if he'd still have a conscience. "Come on, get back into bed and we'll find some painkillers tomorrow" I agreed and lifted myself up weakly, dragging myself to the bed. Conrad got in beside me, but on top of the blanket again. "You don't have to sleep above the sheets" I laughed. "I'm a warm blooded animal" he winked. "Okay, suit yourself" I smiled, rolling on to my side. He turned off the lights and we both tried to rest. After some tossing and turning, I started to get sleepy and his soft snores took my mind off of all that was happening in my life. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Light broke through the muddy brown curtains in the motel room. I shifted my weight but I was trapped, weight pinning me down. I looked down at my torso to find a toned, hairy arm wrapped over me. I blushed, but didn't move, instead I felt myself enjoying it. It had been a while since I'd been in a man's arms, especially one with whom I felt safe. It was a great feeling, after all of this time being scared of Christoph and feeling repulsed by his every touch and just his presence, a man's comfort felt like magic was consuming me. I lay like that until he stirred and realised what he was doing. He pulled away slowly as if not to wake me, totally unaware that I'd already acknowledged his cute unconscious gesture. I groaned as I stretched out, pretending to wake up. ⠀⠀ I looked up at him, he was slightly blushing but stretching to style it out. "Good morning" I groaned. The light was making my head continue to pound so I sheilded them from it. "Still in pain?" He asked, looking concerned. "Mhm" I moaned rubbing my temples. He got up and started putting on his shoes. "Where are you going?" I asked. "To get you some painkillers and something to eat" he replied. I smiled at him. "Thankyou" I replied. He left the room and came back around half an hour later with a McDonald's and a small brown paper bag. Sitting on the edge of the bed, he handed me the McDonald's and then took a cup and a box of painkillers out. I gulped down some sprite with two of the tablets and wolfed down the McChicken sandwich. Once I was finished he handed me the cup. It was Styrofoam and warm. I didnt need to open it for the scent to hit me, it was blood, animal blood. I opened it at superspeed and completely demolished it all. Once I was done I touched my lips. Then my head. The headache had finally subsided. ⠀⠀ "Thankyou" I said. "I feel much better now". He smiled, "You're welcome" he replied. "We should get going, we have to hike back to the lake house" I nodded. "Okay sure, let me just use the toilet and I'm ready" I said, getting up and stretching. "Did you eat?" I asked, turning around. "Yeah on the way" he replied with a grin on his face. I smiled back and used the bathroom. Splashing some water on my face and taming my wild hair. ⠀⠀ We left soon after, and walked in the direction that Conrad said we came from last night. We had no phones, and no was of knowing which way we were going buy after walking for a couple of hours we finally reached the warehouse. It was already dark when we got there, but we kept on walking until we finally got to the lakehouse. When we got in, I slouched onto the sofa chair and took off my shoes, my feet where throbbing and my legs aching. Conrad plonked himself right next to me. "We should stay here tonight and go to try and find the others tomorrow" he slurred. I agreed. They were probably out trying to find us, and an SUV was left here so we could use that in the morning. I felt my eyes drifting, so I sat up. "I'm going to head to bed, I'm falling to sleep" I giggled. "Yeah me too" he laughed back. "Long day, I really am sorry for running off like that" I played with my fingers, looking at him. He smiled, looking into my eyes for a minute. Butterflies created chaos in my stomach. "Don't beat yourself up about it" he replied, smiling while he drifted off to his own bedroom. "Goodnight" he spoke. "Goodnight" I replied. As abhorrent as the thought should have been, I found myself longing to be held by him again and it felt strange not sharing a bed. Regardless of my thoughts I found myself jumping straight into the cold, lonely bed without even showering. It was a long day, so I let sleep take me and dreamt about being held.
