Mason wraps his arms around me giving me a hug and a kiss on the forehead. Then pulls away looking at me.
“How about we start today? I can do some meditating with you down by the lake. Sound good?”
Happy at the thought I nod and smile at him. Nikki still on the topic of the power making Mason frown.
“Girl, did moon goddess say why you had this power in you? And does it have any connections to the rogues?”
“Rogues?”
“Wolves with no packs. They don’t live by anyone’s rules and have no alpha. In other words a bunch of stray dogs.” Penny explains.
Mason gives her a warning glare for her choice of words which Penny unaffected by his glare just ignores it.
“Oh yes, they were the ones howling when I woke up right?”
“mmhmm… and that sounded like a s**t load of rogues out there.”
Trying to remember the best I can what Selene had told me and the feeling I had when I was waking up.
“They can feel the power. I could feel their thirst for it when I was waking up... They are drawn to it like a moth to a flame. The power would have been at a high when I fell into the deep sleep and when I woke from it. This is why I have to control this power to at least try to contain it or we will have every rogue here at our doorsteps.” Pausing at the thought if that were to happen, I shake my head at the thought . “I don’t know what they will do when they do have me in their grasp.”
Mason grabs my hand, rubbing the back of my hand with his thumb, not sure sure if that was to calm me or to calm himself.
“That confirms it all, the activity and the weird reactions from downstairs. Still need to figure out how Dane still fits into all of this.” Looking a little scary like he’s about to break something.
“Downstairs?” looking confused at Mason he doesn’t answer me then I remember my tour with Nikki in the dormitory and the heavily locked door. “Oh…”
“So that explains the rogues… but… Why can’t we sense it?” Nikki asks with a questioningly look, I shrug my shoulders “So why you?” I can see Nikki trying to figure out the answer also but just like him I too am unsure.
“I asked the same question but every time I got either, your answer will come in due time or say too much and it could alter the path.”
“Hmmm… So what about the visions you got? What do those mean?”
“Apparently they are memories but they are not mine.”
“Do you know who owns them?” I shake my head unknowingly in reply to Nikki’s question “hmmm… well that sucks. Would have been good to understand why you…”
Mason stands abruptly startling me, looking towards the lake.
“Let’s not question the moon goddess’s intentions. We need to trust and believe in her plans.” Penny states making us drop the topic.
Penny stands up looking at Mason then at me with a straight face.
“We’ll be back kid, pack matters. Stay with Nikki and don’t leave the house.”
Sitting on the bed fiddling with my finger I obediently nod my head and worriedly watch her leave the room.
Mason still standing by the bed faces me bending down to my eye level and placing his palms on the sides of my face.
“When I come back we’ll go down to the lake, just the two of us.”
Trying to not worry I smile in response to him with an unconvincing nod before he plants a kiss on my forehead, feeling his lips again I’m reminded of our earlier make out session making me blush. I try to hide my red face, Mason stops me from looking down.
“Don’t ever hide that beautiful face of yours.” Looking back at him with my red face he smiles and gives me quick kiss on the lips making my face go bright red “I’ll be back soon beautiful.”
I flop back on the bed as soon as Mason leaves the room, laying on my back and covering my face in embarrassment.
“Kali and Mason up the tree k.i.s.s.i.n.g…”
Nikki sings teasing me. I hit him with a pillow to stop him. He jumps off the bed and runs to the middle of the room hugging and running his hands up and down his body and making kissing faces and sounds while dodging the pillows I’m throwing at him making me hop off the bed to chase him around the room.
Like little kids we are running around the coffee table, around the love seat, out onto the balcony jumping up and over the furniture’s before running back into the room.
After running around and making a mess we both go flying on the bed and lay there laughing.
“I wish we knew each other when we were younger, we would have had so much fun growing up together.”
“Same here. You’re lucky though, you had Mason growing up, a family and friends.”
“Mase maybe my twin but we do have different interests. I have made friends over the years but with you it’s different. You’re like a sister I never had.”
“You’re going to say sister after you just caught me smashing lips with your brother?” teasing him.
“oh moon goddess you know what I mean! And now I would like to erase the image from memory.” we both giggle.
I turn to face Nikki while he sits up on the bed crossing his legs and looking a little serious at me.
“Mase is one of those rare good guys. My brother always protects and puts others needs before his own, I guess that’s why he became a police officer, to protect and serve… He was here by your side everyday. The day you fell into a coma he lost it when he thought he had lost you, I’ve never seen him like that before. I just thought you should know that.”
I lay there thinking about what Nikki said. Feeling a little sad to hear that but I don’t quite understand why he would feel that strongly for me or would do all this for me.
“I don’t mean to sound rude or ungrateful, but why? He doesn’t even know me.”
“You are his fated mate.”
I get up on my elbows looking at him with a confused face.
“his fated what?”
“His fated mate. He is bonded to you by the moon goddess herself. Some don’t find their fated mates and end up just taking another as their mate.”
“But what if he falls in love with someone else? Can that happen?” a bit taken aback by the information he’s shared and curious. He shakes his head in reply to my questions.
“It’s the most powerful bond there is. Once we find our fated mates, that’s it for us, there is no other.”
Nikki goes on to explain more about the bond, how they know, what they feel. He tells me a few stories of other wolves who found their fated mates including how his parents met and how they are madly in love and can’t keep their hands off each other.
It’s interesting to learn all of this, to understand them better. Their way of living seems so simple, to be with the one meant for you and only you, yet their life can be so dangerous at the same time.
I wish love was that easy for everyone and I want that for myself but I’m curious as to why I don’t have those intense feelings towards Mason.
“Why don’t I feel what he feels if I am his fated mate? I mean don’t get me wrong, your brother is HOT and he smells so good like lavender and let’s not forget he’s easy on the eyes, any girl that says otherwise is bloody blind.” Nikki chuckles at my description of Mason.
“You’re human girl… wait. Did you say he smells like lavender?” I nod “Can you smell the cologne on him?”
“Well yeah of course but whenever he’s around I’m drawn more to the smell of lavender, I thought the room was scented but it faded after he left, plus I smelled it in the lake so I assumed it was him. Why?” looking at him curious.
“I’m not one hundred percent sure BUT I think you might be experiencing a bit of the bond too. You have a scent for him and I’ve never heard of a human experience that... I think it may have something to do with the power you have since you’re going through changes… Hmm… interesting…”
Nikki grabs my hand making me sit up and face him. Looking at me with dead serious worried face.
“On a serious note Kali… the bond means everything to our kind… please don’t break my brothers heart.”
After everything he has told me, I feel a big pressure weighing on me. I have Mason’s life in my hand and the future of his pack. He’s already all in and committed to making this work, and me, a human, currently my feelings are just me crushing on him. There’s a wide gap of feelings between the two of us. I wish I could feel what he was feeling to make this all easier.
I don’t get a chance to answer Nikki before Mason and Penny come walking in through the door. Mason has his head down, hands in pocket looking a little irritated and Penny with that undecipherable look both looking like they just had a disagreement, both ignoring each other and keeping their distance from each other.
“Kid, I’ll be taking you down to the lake to meditate and then we’ll do some light training later. When you’re ready come get me in my room.”
Mason now leaning up against the wall, looking like a wounded puppy, not looking at any of us clearly not happy with the decision.
“Penny… I was hoping Mason would take me to the lake… and after that I’ll come do some training with you later, if that’s ok with you.”
Mason stands up straight surprised and smiling at me, Penny like always has a straight face.
“four o’clock. Will be good for you to watch the young ones train before we get into it.” Penny leaves the room with a straight face.
“Let me just grab my shoes and hoodie and then we can go.” Smiling at Mason while getting up from the bed.
Running past Mason and into the closet to grab what I need. Walking back into the room I feel like I stepped into a tense moment between Nikki and Mason, first Penny now Nikki, wondering what the hell is going on. Did something happen earlier when Penny and Mason had to leave or is Nikki and Mason having a sibling spat.
“Everything ok in here?”
No one replies me. Nikki just rolls his eyes at Mason and opens his laptop and Mason ignores Nikki and just looks happy to see me as if he hasn’t seen me before. A note to myself, I’m going to have to get use to the way Mason always has that perfect smile that makes me blush but also need to remember what Nikki said to me.
“Ready?” Mason asks holding his hand out for me to take.
“Ready.” Smiling like a school girl and taking his hand.
