Anger rose in her as she remembered everything her family did to her. *Iris was just 4 months old when Mr John adopted her. At that time, he was married to Gabriella, but was unable to conceive a child, which led to Iris' adoption. They loved and cared for her. Iris grew up receiving lots of affection from her parents, but happiness didn't last long as her mother died due to cancer when Iris was 9 years old. At that age, she already knew what death meant. The death of her mother created a lot of scars in their hearts, but that didn't break Iris and her father’s bond; it grew even stronger. Mr John cared for Iris and kept on trying to become both a father and mother figure to her, but what an old man can do in his late 40s is limited, so he married Anabelle, as pretty as the name may sound, but evil resides in that woman. The very first day Iris saw her, chills ran down her spine; she could sense something negative about her, but seeing as her father was happy, she kept her thoughts to herself. For the first few months, Anabelle seemed nice, and Anabelle began to see her as a mother figure. A few months passed, and Mr Johns’ business grew at a rapid rate. He was a millionaire, surprising Iris at how fast his career grew, but knowing how hard-working her father was, she was happy for him. It was soon after that Anabelle gave birth to twins, Daniel and Danielle. Anabelle loved her kids so much to the point she totally forgot about Iris, everything Iris did started irritating her, she didn't care less about pretending in front of Mr John. He sometimes tried to defend her but to no avail. Iris grew into a beautiful, intelligent, clever young lady, and that made Anabelle’s hatred grow even more. Anabelle was beautiful, way prettier than her daughter Danielle, she was intelligent, way smarter than her twins, and it pained her to the core. She wanted to bring Iris down, to make her appear insignificant. She also wanted Mr John to disown Iris so that her children could inherit everything, which resulted in her poisoning Mr John and blaming Iris for it, saying she always hated the fact that her father remarried and forgot about her mom. Iris was stunned; she couldn't believe her ears. She never thought Anabelle could accuse her of such an act. Without thinking too much, Anabelle called the police on Iris* “Can I make a phone call, please, Officer?” she begs. The Officer sighs while standing up, he opens the jail door and gestures to the telephone on the table. “Thank you so much,” she says while cleaning her tears. She picked up the telephone, wanting to dial a number, but stopped remembering that she had no one to call except her family, but with the situation at hand and her dad in the hospital, calling them is not an option. She turned to leave but stopped as she remembered her close friend Benjamin, hope filled her eyes as she picked up and quickly dialed his number. “Hey, who is this and how can I help you?” says Benjamin. Iris sobbed, “ Ben…please, I need your help”. “Hey, hey, Iris…why are you crying? What's wrong? What happened?” He asks in a confused and worried tone. “ Ben…I'm at the police station right now” she says. “ Why? What happened?” He asked in a more worried tone. “ I was arrested and accused of poisoning my own father, Ben,” she says while crying. “Oh my…that's serious” he says. “Ben…I'm so worried, what if something happens to dad… he's all I have right now,” she says while crying uncontrollably. “ Iris, calm down, nothing will happen to him. What police station are you at?” He asked. “The station closest to our street,” she answered. “Okay, I'm on my way,” he says. She ended the call and thanked the Officer. A few minutes later, Benjamin arrived, rushing with a worried look. “Iris?” He shouts out while looking for her. Iris stood up quickly and called out to him. Benjamin rushed to her side, giving her a hug, comforting her, telling her everything would be okay. The next morning, they went to the hospital to see Iris’s father, who was hospitalized. Getting in, they were stopped by Anabelle. “What are you doing here? Aren't you meant to be in jail for what you did?” says Anabelle in a dramatic voice. “I didn't do anything” says Iris in an angry and frustrated voice. “What do you mean by you didn't do anything? You poisoned him, and here you are denying it,” shouted Anabelle. “Mom, how could you say such a thing, do you really think I can do such a thing?” Iris cried out. “Oh, please stop it with the fake tears,” Anabelle says in a frustrated voice. Iris broke down but didn't lose control. Before another could say anything else, the doctor walked out of the emergency room with a serious expression. Everywhere went silent, and everyone wanted to know what the doctor had to say.
