Chapter 1
The gates would not hold for long, the rogues were coming in, our soldiers were dead. Only women and children were left inside the bunker and only me to protect them, as the moon of the pack I had to do it.
"Kayla, guide the others through the drains, you know what to do," I say forcefully to my protector, Kanya.
"I'm not leaving you here," Kanya says with concern in her eyes.
"They won't do anything to me, but they will to you, take them, I'll be fine" I lied.
The bangs on the door were more and more powerful and the bricks that supported it were coming out of their place with each attack. They would be inside soon.
I looked at Kanya with tenderness and admiration, knowing that it was possibly the last time I would see my dearest friend.
"Go"
"No, please come with us " Kanya begged me.
"If I do, they'll chase us. Go, please"
Kanya hugged me tightly for what seemed like minutes.
"We will return for you, my moon." she said.
The bunker was empty just as the door gave away as if it had held out until everyone was safe. Only I was there, in front of half a dozen ferocious wolves. At that moment I could only think about my mate, my beautiful and dear mate. Something told me that my death was approaching, that they would show no mercy. It hurt me to think of what he would suffer when I'll die. I didn't want to see him suffer, I hoped he could forgive me and decide to continue living his life.
The wolves growled at me and one of them spoke.
"We have the moon, the alpha is ours." said one of them.
That never. I will not allow them to use me against my alpha, I will not submit to them. My mate was too far to help me, but I could help him win this war. I do not fear death, I embrace it.
"First dead" I said as my body took the form of my white wolf with long fur and sharp teeth, she was very strong, but not as strong as an alpha wolf.
I ran towards them and pounced on the first wolf that crossed my path, a dark-furred wolf that opened its snout showing all its huge teeth. I fought with him, bit him until his blood filled my mouth, I turned to another, ready to attack, but I did not expect the alpha to attack me directly to the jugular. The warmth of my blood-soaked my chest and stained my white fur a rich crimson.
"Forgive me, Adam" I spoke to him through our link.
"Daenna, are you alright?!" he screamed with desperation in his voice.
It hurt me more to hear him worried than the mortal wound that was taking my life away.
"I love you" I said before everything went dark.
-------------------------------------
A gasp came out of my mouth, not knowing why I instinctively brought my hands to my neck, I did not understand the fear I was feeling. My heart raced and the scene before my eyes only confused me more. The sound of the churning water in the bathtub plunged me into horror. I was swimming in blood. The tub that I was submerged in was filled with red liquid. My legs reacted on their own. I tried to get out of the tub, but my body seemed to have no strength at all, so I could only crash onto the floor. I came out of that place in terror, slipping on the floor with the ground covered with dense red liquid. The bathroom that appeared to be white was now fused with reddish hues, it seemed to be painted with angry hands.
My breathing was ragged, and the dampness that covered me only made me shiver violently when combined with the icy blasts coming through the window. I was lying naked and with severe dizziness that did not allow me to concentrate. My head throbbed painfully. I didn't know what was happening, I didn't even know who I was and how I got there.
My first instinct was to look for something to cover me, the questions came to my head like bullets, one after another, and without any answer. Who I am? Where I am? What's going on? Whose blood is it? I am in danger? I went around the room trying to find something familiar that could give me a clue as to where I was, but the place was neat and empty, there were no personal items or decorations to indicate the type of person who lived there, there was only a backpack that I rushed to open. In it, there were only battered clothes and a pair of white tennis shoes. I looked in one of the small bags and found a pink cell phone with a childish case. The screen was unlocked and I scrambled through the photos to try and find something that made sense to me. In the gallery there was nothing but two selfies of a pale girl, without much joy on her face, she had jet black hair that covered a large part of her face and she was wearing a dark hoodie that created large shadows on her sad face. I felt a bit sorry for her, but unfortunately, she didn't give me any clues.
After I checked the backpack I moved to the dresser. There was nothing on it so I looked in the drawers, but everything was empty. When I looked up I couldn't recognize the girl who was reflected in the mirror. She was the girl on the phone. Did I look like that? Why did I feel that this was not my body? I had a feeling of nostalgia, a pressure was sinking my chest and I was drowning, I felt ... a deep sadness. Why I was sad? I felt like half of me was missing.
From the haggard eyes, I could only recognize the vivid yellow color that stood out against the paleness of my skin. The red stain on my body disgusted me, and horrible scars were peeking out on my wrists. Despair overwhelmed me, why the hell didn't I know anything? I couldn't even recognize myself in the mirror. My legs could no longer support me and I dropped to the ground. My sobs came out of my mouth uncontrollably and tears ran down my cheeks.
"Someone, help me" I pleaded in a low voice.
The sound of hurried footsteps approaching brought me out of my thoughts.
"AGNES!" A voice called angrily behind the door. "AGNES! OPEN THE f*****g DOOR ”The male voice screamed angrily.
I could hear him trying to turn the knob violently. My body shrunk from the calls of that person. From the tone of his voice, he couldn't be good. I couldn't help crawling into a corner and grabbing my legs for protection. My body was shaking and my heart was pounding in terror. I didn't understand the fear I was feeling.
"GOOD!" said the determined voice. He stopped banging on the door and everything fell silent, but not for long.
A dry stroke followed by the sound of the door hitting the floor took my breath away.
"What the f**k did you do now?" he screamed.
Through the door an imposing man came in with an angry expression that only highlighted his manly features, his hair and clothes were messy. His green eyes searched the room for me and when they settled on me his expression was disfigured, it was no longer anger that invaded his face, it was rage. My heart sank, I wanted to run.
He walked toward me with a furious step and lifted me off the ground strangling my forearm. He brought me so close to him that the smell of him invaded me, a smell of damp earth and vanilla, he smelled very good, but I was too scared to pay much attention to it. He inhaled heavily and his body shook with anger.
"Now what the f**k did you do, stupid girl?! I almost died because of you! ANSWER ME!" he yelled in my face as he looked down on me.
I wanted to speak, but I couldn't get the words out of my mouth.
"What did I do wrong to be paired with you? You disgust me ” The man lowered his gaze and found the blood that stained my body under the towel that covered me. "What the f**k ..."
He took my wrists and looked at the scars along my arm, the look of disgust didn't fade from his face, but it was now mixed with disbelief and something that I interpreted as amusement. "You bitch..."
The man turned to the bathroom and was faced with the horrifying bloody scene. "I wish you had died before I met you, so I wouldn't be stuck with you." The man released my hands in disdain. His screams hurt me like daggers straight to the heart, why did the words of this man I didn't even know hurt me so much? His cruelty hurt me, but also infuriated me. He didn't even let me speak.
"Who the hell do you think you are, i***t?" the words came out of my mouth unfiltered.
The man who was giving me his back, turned slowly, unable to believe what I just said.
"What?" He answered me in a low, threatening voice. My skin crawled. "What the f**k did you say? You really got mad. ”The black-haired man began to walk slowly towards me, challenging me with his body to repeat what I had said.
His aura had turned into a dense mass that didn't let me breathe. I could feel his power as if it were something tangible, it was heavy and commanding. I wanted to regret my words, but something told me that it would not make much difference. That man was going to hurt me, I had to escape.
There was only a little space left before he reached me, so I seized the opportunity, crossed onto the bed, and ran through the door. I was almost out into the hallway when a stinging jerk pulled on my hair, making my feet left the floor and knocking my back against the wooden planks. The pain was intense, the air shot out of my lungs, and refused to go back in. I could see the man squatting over my head, still holding my hair in his fist, he had an amused expression.
"At least now you've made it a bit interesting," he told me sounding annoyed. He lifted me by pulling my hair. I couldn't stop coughing trying to catch my breath and it only caused me more pain.
The black-haired man made me look him in the eyes, throwing my head back several times.
"I hate you more than anything," he told me dryly and then hir with his open hand on my cheek.
Heat traveled quickly across my face, it went numb fast and the world just started spinning until I hit the ground again. I couldn't allow myself to hang around, I had to run or this man was going to kill me.
With the little strength and almost zero consciousness that I had left, the only thing I could think about was to hug his leg and bite him with all my will until I felt my teeth going through his flesh. He let out a scream and pushed me hard from my face to separate me from him. I scrambled to my feet and made my way out the door as fast as I could while he stared at his wound. I could hear something like a groan as I descended the stairs that seemed endless. The effort clouded my vision and I tripped, rolling down the stairs. My body already refused to feel pain, it seemed to be too weak. Lying on the ground floor I could only see that man looking at me, smiling from above.
