Chapter 1: Disappointment and Determination
The sun beat down on the training field as the Lu family's young disciples practiced their sparks. Some trainers stood nearby, their voices laced with disdain. "I can't believe the Lu family has fallen so far," one of them said emphatically. "Our young master is nothing more than a waste roll."
"Maybe if Lu Feng was the young master, he could bring back the former glory of the Lu family," another trainer suggested.
"That may very well be possible," a third trainer chimed in. "Haven't you heard of the Supreme Elder's plan for succession? I even heard that the family ancestors are in support of this. Will the family head allow himself to be dismissed so easily."
The trainers' words dripped with venom, reflecting the Lu family's current state of decline. Once a prestigious clan, the Lu family had struggled to maintain its influence in the Longhu Kingdom. The kingdom itself was one of the ten powerful kingdoms in the Earth Realm, where cultivators wielded sparks to shape their destinies.
Back at the Lu family residence, a tall and imposing figure stood in the courtyard. Lu Kai, the family head, had jet-black hair and piercing blue eyes. He was tall, with a rugged yet authoritative presence. Beside him stood his sixteen-year-old son, Lu Tong. The young boy had a fearless and exquisite appearance, with silver hair and deep blue eyes that seemed to gleam with determination.
"The whole Lu family knows you activated your spark at the age of six," Lu Kai said expectantly. "So now, let's see what you've got."
Lu Tong's thoughts flashed back to his years of training. "I have been training myself non-stop since I was seven," he told himself. He recalled the countless hours spent practicing his techniques, honing his skills, and studying the ancient arts.
As the crowd gathered around the courtyard, some onlookers snickered. "Are we sure the wastrel won't die?" one man mocked. "That moron is going to get himself killed," another chimed in.
Lu Kai turned to Lu Tong and said, "Come at me with your full strength and spark. I'll just use my physical strength – this is the handicap I'll give you."
With a fierce expression, Lu Tong rushed towards his father, his fist flying in a tight arc. The punch landed, but Lu Kai didn't flinch. With a swift retaliation, Lu Kai sent Lu Tong flying several steps back with a single palm strike.
"Is this what you've been training for?" Lu Kai asked, his voice tinged with disappointment.
As Lu Kai walked away, the crowd began to murmur. "What a worthless boy," a woman sneered. "His father is also disappointed in him," another woman added.
Lu Tong fell to his knees, his face twisted in anguish. But he shouted out loud, "I will get stronger! I will restore the glory of my family!"
Just as the crowd was dispersing, Lu Kai approached his son from behind and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder. "Son, I know you will become stronger. I'm not disappointed." With that, he walked away, leaving Lu Tong to ponder his words.
Lu Tong's thoughts swirled with emotions as he struggled to understand his father's intentions. He knew he had disappointed Lu Kai, but he also knew that he had the potential to become stronger. The question was, how could he unlock that potential?
Lu Tong trudged back to his quarters, his feet heavy with disappointment. The words of his father and the onlookers echoed in his mind, piercing his heart like daggers. "What a worthless boy," "He's going to get himself killed," "His father is also disappointed in him."
As he entered his room, Lu Tong collapsed onto his bed, burying his face in the pillow. Tears streamed down his cheeks, and he couldn't hold back the sobs. He felt like a failure, a disappointment to his family and himself.
Lu Tong's thoughts wandered to his years of training, the countless hours he had dedicated to mastering his spark. He had always believed that with enough effort, he could prove himself worthy. But now, he wondered if it was all for nothing.
The weight of his family's expectations crushed him. His father's disappointment stung more than any physical blow. Lu Tong felt like he was walking in the shadow of his family's legacy, unable to find his own path.
As the night wore on, Lu Tong's tears dried, replaced by a deep-seated frustration. He clenched his fists, determination burning within him. He would prove himself, no matter what it took. He would show his family that he was worthy, that he was strong.
But for now, Lu Tong couldn't shake off the feeling of inadequacy. He lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, his mind racing with doubts and fears. The darkness seemed to close in around him, and he felt utterly alone.
In the silence, Lu Tong's resolve hardened. He would rise above his limitations, no matter the cost. The fire within him burned brighter, fueling his determination to prove himself.
As the night slowly gave way to dawn, Lu Tong finally drifted off to sleep, his heart still heavy with emotion. The journey ahead would be long and arduous, but he was ready to face it head-on.
