Everything went still, there was an eerie silence in the air. It was as though the entire forest held its breath. Not a single sound penetrated the bubble of tense anticipation that surrounded them. Kelly darted her eyes around again and spotted a fallen branch not too far away. It didn’t look like much, it was maybe fifteen inches wide and sixty inches long, but it was the only thing she saw and it was something rather than nothing. If she ran for it, she had a chance of grabbing it before the wolf was upon her. Maybe she had a fighting chance.
