Prologue
A nice Sunday afternoon, the air blows currents of leaves on the sidewalk as a man, nonchalantly, walks down it. He whistles as the air around him seemingly flows around his body instead of touching him. He's happy, unworrying of the world around. However, while walking down the sidewalk, he trips, and slams his head into a signpost. He blacks out suddenly and hits the ground. He awakes, into a void, all-knowing, yet unknowing of him. He is a strange appearance in this realm of darkness. He stands up in the void, and yells out to anyone that could possibly hear him, yet, none do. But, one thing, does. "Yes?" The voice is feminine and resembles that of his mother's voice. "Mother?" "Oh, yes! It's me, your mother." "This is quite a strange place to meet my mother, now isn't it?" "Hush now." "Jeez, fine." "Now let me tell you the story of your father, a story you will never hear again." She began her story, it started off with his dad walking down a street, and then getting hit in the head with a pole. He awoke into a void, and he could hear the voice of his mother. "Mom, can you just skip ahead to the point where you tell me why I am here." "Fine, fine. The reason why you are here is the same reason why your father and his father before him came here. You're cursed!" "Cursed?!" "Yes! Cursed!" "Why am I being told this now?" "Because, you hit your head on a pole." "Is... that really valid reasoning?" "Oh hush now!" "Fine." She continues on about the curse. The curse is only activated when the person hits 18 years of age, which our main character is going to hit in a day, he will have a year afterwards to find a mate to create a relationship with to marry. If he doesn't do it, he'll die as soon as he turns 19. The curse has affected his family for generations after they got cursed during the 19th century. A witch by the name of Zella cursed them after his very great grandpa didn't marry her. How his mother knows this, he doesn't know. Suddenly, he awakes to being carried by a woman into a local coffee bar. "Ah!" He screams loudly as he falls onto his back as the woman struggles with him, fruitlessly. "Let me carry you!" She says as she tries to drag him by his legs into the coffee bar. "Let me go now, woman!" He kicks and screams like a little girl getting her candy stolen. "Fine!" She lets him go and he settles down, finally. She continues with her very strange introduction to him, "My name's Ann. Nice to meet you." She puts out a gloved hand, awaiting a reaction of friendliness. He accepts and cups his hand on hers. She pulls him up and they enter a rather passionate hug before they both realize that they had fallen onto each other, they both rapidly pull away, not in disgust, but rather confusion. He feels the bump on his head and looks at his hand, light red covering it. He then looks her straight in the face, "My name's Jared. Nice to meet you, too." He walks out of the coffee bar, that is promptly named, Coffee Bar. She follows him outside and continues to follow him. He begins to quicken his pace, she does as well. It doesn't take long until they are both in a heavy sprint for whatever destination awaits them. They run past shops and red lights before finally they meet a green light and have to stop. "Why were you running?" Ann says. "Because you were running after me!" "No, you were running away from me!" "So that does means you were chasing after me." "Well, uh, well, no. What?" "Just leave me alone. I need to think about what sort of dream I had when I blacked out." "At least let me give you my number." "What? Why would I accept your number?" "Because you're interesting, I mean, you got f*****g knocked out by slamming head first into a pole that was easily avoidable, I wanna get to know a person as rad as that!" "Fine, but don't expect me to call you every hour, or rather, every day, or really, ever." "Good, here it is." She pulls out an already signed paper with her number and her name with hearts and a red lipstick mark from her lips. "Goodday!" He says as he runs away towards his house as fast as possible. ~ He makes it to his house, after running two miles, and immediately regretting all of it as soon as he gets to his house. He slumps down onto his couch and begins to mull over the days happenings. He wonders about his fever dream of being cursed. And then he wonders why that girl was acting so manly. He sighs. "What the hell is happening today?" He falls quickly asleep on his couch and begins to dream of the void world. He awakes in the void and looks around. Still completely confused of the place he actually is at that exact moment. "Oh, hi again sweetie." His mother says. "Hi, mom, I guess." "How was your time away from me?" "Fine. I met a new girl, I guess." "That's good! Make sure you find all your options for girls, you don't want to be unhappy when you marry her, otherwise you'll die if you divorce." Jared could feel his mother's smile through the void, it creeped him out. He begins to walk deeper into the abyss until he finally hits an invisible wall. He slams his fists against it and breaks his hand, although, he feels nothing of it. However, it wakes him from his state, a full 12 hours later. He looks at the clock and it says 2 hours before it's work for him. He gets up and puts his works clothes on, preparing for the day at hand. He starts to wonder about the number in his phone now and decides to take a look at the number in his phone. apparently he had 14 new messages from Ann. He didn't even give her his number. She must have looked his phone number while he was inputting hers. He thought nothing of it, and traveled to work.
