Wolff inc.

1297 Words
Alissa POV It wasn’t a very long bus ride to the office of Wolff inc. It was located on the outskirts of town near a very large forest. I’ve never been much of a hiker, so I never explored those woods, but there were many wild stories floating around town about them. Howls in the middle of the night, strange large shapes quickly moving through the dark, that sort of thing. Not that I believed any of those vague ghost stories that were based on nothing but rumors and hearsay of course.  It’s not like I bought some rock salt online and stuffed it in my bag to ward of ghosts, demons and other creatures of the night in case I ever worked past midnight or anything…. Okay I may have done that, but good preparation for the unexpected was just common sense, really. When I arrived at Wolff inc. I was once again astonished by how large the building was. I never thought much about construction companies, but I just sort of imagined it to be some shabby shed somewhere on a building site. How very wrong I was. When I walked through the doors into the lobby Sarah was already waiting for me. “Hey Alissa, welcome on your first day!” she greeted me with an enthusiastic smile. “I thought I’d meet you in the lobby so you wouldn’t get lost. We need  to get your keycard fixed first. Everybody working here has one and it gives you access to the locked areas in the building.” As she talked she was walking further into the building and I quickly followed her. We walked through a bunch of hallways and past a few people that were already hard at work. Sarah didn’t stop to introduce me, so I kind of felt like a tourist visiting the place and being led around by a guide. After what seemed like forever we finally came to a halt outside a large set of doors. Sarah abruptly stopped and I nearly bumped into her. “This is our IT department”, Sarah explained. “They will make you a keycard and set you up with your own personal login details to our systems. Any problems you have with your computer or any other machine, they are the ones to call.” An IT department? At a construction company? Seemed a little weird to me. But then I suppose a lot of things were automated these days, so maybe it made sense somehow? I shook myself out of my thoughts and followed Sarah inside. Three guys immediately looked up from their computer screens to stare at me. “Guys, this is Alissa”, Sarah introduced me. “She will be David’s temporary PA, so be nice to her. She needs to be set up. Keycard and the whole shabang. Can you get that started? Kevin?” The three guys from the IT department were still staring at me as if they had never seen a human female before and didn’t respond. Sarah then snapped her fingers in front of their faces which seemed to snap them out of it. One of the guys, Kevin I assume, nodded at her while the other two were no longer staring but still stealing glances at me. “Great. That’s sorted then. Let’s get you to your new office”, Sarah continued at me. She turned around and walked out of the IT department. We walked for another five days before we reached the office. I remembered this place from when I had my job interview. “This place is really big”, I said a bit uncertain. “Oh you’ll find your way around soon enough”,  Sarah reassured me. “It takes some getting used to, but you’ll be fine. Do you want some coffee?” She walked over to some machine with what felt like a hundred buttons. Apparently that was the coffee machine. She wasn’t wrong when she said that things around here would take some getting used to if making a simple cup of coffee already looked that complicated… At the end of the day I was exhausted, but fulfilled. It was just so much information to take in. But then again that was the case at any new job. I took the bus back home and when I arrived at the apartment I found Daisy already there almost done cooking pasta. “Hello hard-working professional woman”, she greeted me. “How was your first day in the lair of the wolf? “ “Hahaha, very funny”,  I replied. Daisy had been making jokes about big bad wolves since I got hired at Wolff inc. Though I had to hand it to her, it was a peculiar name for a business. Especially since nobody seemed to have Wolff as a last name. “It was actually kind of nice to be back at work”, I said while grabbing plates out of the cupboard. “At first it was a little weird there. They just kept staring at me as if they had never seen anything like me. It was odd. But I guess they just don’t get a lot of new hires there, because after a while they were acting normal and being very friendly.” “Well it’s a good thing that they don’t get many new hires I guess”, Daisy said while putting the now finished pasta onto the plates. “That means people like working there and actually continue working there, right? So no need to hire anybody new.” “True”,  I responded while filling two glasses with water. “I really have a good feeling about this job. This is going to bring me good things. I can feel it in my bones.” “Don’t say that!” Daisy warned. “You’ll jinx it. After all you haven’t met the boss yet…” That was very true. But I wasn’t going to let anything or anyone spoil my good mood. Wolff inc. was the place for me to shine! -------------------------------------- Sarah POV It had been a few days of working with Alissa and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I hadn't been very confident in my choice of candidate for the job, but during my interview with Alissa my wolf kept pestering me to hire her. She refused to tell me why and she kept saying that I would see why. And now, after working with her for a few days, I do. Alissa might be young and without much experience, but she was picking up on things very fast. She had a talent for organizing and she was friendly and charming yet professional. It was a good decision. "That isn't why I told you to hire her," my wolf Bella chimed in. "I don't care if she can organize a meeting or push on the right buttons." "Then why did you tell me to hire her?" I responded. "You'll see..." "Stop being so dramatically cryptic and just tell me", I said, rolling my eyes. But I got no response from my wolf anymore. I did get a strange look from Alissa who had caught me rolling my eyes for no apparent reason. "Intrusive and annoying thoughts", I told her with a laugh. She didn’t laugh back and for some reason she kept glancing at my ear from time to time when she thought I wasn't looking. Almost as if she was searching for something. I checked in the mirror in the toilet, but there was nothing on or around my ear. I wonder what she was looking at...
