CHAPTER 2

1059 Words
Slowly, yet seamlessly, the news of the Alpha’s need for a maiden spread through the whole Usharia Kingdom, leaving everyone keen and attentive to know who the lucky maiden will be. “Tell them all to leave!” Alpha Diego ordered, peeking through his blinds to see the multitude of eligible maidens waiting for his approval. “What do they think I’m doing here? Audition?” He asked, aghast. He knew there was going to be a massive turn up, but almost the entire population of the Usharia Kingdom showing up at his abode? Never did it cross his mind. Following his order, they were dismissed, and they all left in the same fashion they had come, grumbling about the poor treatment and bad hosting. Alpha Diego was more concerned with finding his chosen maiden, than getting to know the thousand other applicants, hence, deepening his joy about the fact that his chosen maiden was someone he would recognize in a heartbeat. • • • “What’s that face for?” Madeline asked as Lily walked in, her entire exterior exuding grumpiness. “We didn’t even see the Alpha,” Lily said with a pout. Madeline understood her pain without her needing to say anything more. Interestingly, unlike every other maiden, Madeline treated the issue of the with nonchalance in whatever offer the Alpha who she deemed ruthless and everything but the representation of a kind werewolf leader. Madeline took her time saying a few words of “I told you it was a bad idea”, because she expected her to understand that the Alpha would not want them as a bride. Antonio, her uncle who had raised her eavesdropped earnestly, wanting to know the reason behind her lack of interest in such an enviable position as the Alpha’s bride. To the best of his knowledge, she was still a virgin and was very much eligible. The next day, Antonio set out with his young niece to the palace, to have a meeting with the Alpha. On getting there, they were granted entry into the palace. Alpha Diego watched them enter from the balcony of his room. He set out immediately to welcome them and make enquiry about the maiden, before he was informed that Antonio, the man with her wanted to speak with him. He asked that they let him in while Madeline waited patiently for her uncle in the waiting area. She graced her eyes with the beautiful antiques the area was decorated with. The vintage paintings and vases all at the right corners, perfectly positioned adding glory to the environment. She was drawn to the beauty of art and understood from a young age that coming from a poor background didn’t prevent anybody from basking in the beauty of art. Her gaze rested intently on the pieces lying around, causing her to fail to realize that time had gone. Alpha Diego watched her keenly the pieces without her notice. It was as though she dissected each of them from where she sat, unsure of how appropriate it would be to stand around and take a good look. Alpha Diego wondered if she had a zoom button which allowed her to zoom in and focus on each of them. He cleared his throat, and beamed a smile at her startled self. She stood and greeted immediately, looking around in search of her uncle. “Antonio has left,” he announced, closing the space between them. “Why?” she asked, confused. “Is he coming back?” “No, he’s not,” he said to her, giving another false smile. “We had an agreement. It’ll only be fair he doesn’t return.” “What are you talking about, my Alpha?” she asked. “You’re now my bride,” He explained. “He sold you to me for some good money.” “What?” Madeline asked, wide-eyed. “He did what?” None of the information was digesting as it should. Did her uncle consider her a piece of commodity he could do away with just like that? It was understandable that they were poor and could use the money, but selling her for money? Madeline sat back down struggling to process what she had just heard. Alpha Diego watched the blood in her body drain from he skin as she turned white, like she had seen a ghost. Was the thought of him as her groom that horrifying? Antonio had seized the opportunity to regain every dime he has spent on her thus far, leaving her with the cruelest of Alphas. Madeline knew she could not do anything to change what was already happening, so she accepted her face. “So, what next?” she asked him. “You come with me,” he said with a corny smile, leading her into the main building. A chamber had already been arranged for her following his order. He led her now chamber, introducing the maids that would be waiting on her, leaving her to get acquainted with the environment. Alpha Diego had no intentions of taking things slow with her, at least, not in this matter. If anything had to happen, it had to happen soon. He was twenty seven years old and was not going till wait till he turned thirty. It was enough time consumption that she would need nine months the carry the baby if are got pregnant at first try. So he was only allowing the few hours before midnight to adjust to the environment and get ready for him. By midnight, Madeline was wearing her best soon-to-be baby mama behavior, waiting for him to arrive and feast on her, whatever way he pleased, and he did just that. She paid attention to every “move up a little bit,” “can you adjust?” and “let me know if you’re not comfortable.” He was more thoughtful that she expected, and that made the entire process less unbearable. Following that, she was treated like an egg, a commodity that should not be mal-handled because of the high chances of her carrying the heir. Of course, she recognized that it was nothing more than a show out up because of the curse. She knew she had just one job and was ready to execute it very well.
