The next few weeks fly by in a frenzied, blurry haze of questions, preparations, and arguments.
The first is obvious—to fight or not to fight. While Sadie, Jasmine, and Phoebe had my back immediately about joining the fight, Lana and Haley were harder to convince. Haley reminded us what the last war was like, and insisted she’d rather live like we’re living now than resort to that. Lana reminded us to think of our children, and what our loss would look like for them.
I’ve thought about Harper a lot these past few weeks. She turns seventeen tomorrow, and the promise we made Kenton lingers heavily around me, constantly nagging and taunting me. You swore you’d tell her the truth.
