Chapter One
“The history of the Kingdom of Syla is very important to know, Your Highness”. I signed in protest sinking deeper into my chair. This was about the hundred billionth time that my personal tutor has told me. It was starting to get real old. I mean it's not like I was actually allowed to do anything with the information. I was the princess of the Kingdom of Syla. I was expected to sit still and stay out of everyone's way. “Your Highness, are you even listening? Don’t make me tell your royal brothers and royal mother about your disobedience”. I straightened my posture almost immediately at the mention of my siblings and mother. The royal tutor stared at me with anger in his eyes. He knew that I had no authority and could never do anything to him. “I apologize for my disobedience Royal Tutor. I assure you it will not happen again”. I made sure to keep my voice voided from emotion as I was taught. Throughout the rest of the lesson I made sure not to do anything that would cause me to get into trouble. When the lesson was complete I watched as he left. As the royal princess I was expected to always be the last to leave. I slowly walked down the long hallway that leads to my room. My guard is sticking by my side as always. Though all 16 years I have been alive I don’t once remember not being watched. After all, a princess does not have any freedom. At least this princess doesn't. I arrived at the end of the hall and stopped in front of the two large wooden doors. The doors reminded me of a caged bird. Deprived of the freedom to fly. I pushed the doors open and walked into my cage. My guard settled himself outside my room. There was always a guard somewhere near. I walked deeper into the massive room. The room could fit an entire family inside and still have plenty of room. When I was little I had a room that was deemed not fit for royalty. It was placed far away from any human contact besides the guards that were placed to watch me and the servant who served me my meals. The Queen was the one who decided my living quarters. When my father the king brought me back from one of his battles he left my care to the queen. He left for another battle soon afterwards. When my father came back from his battle he was furious about the size of my room. It was an embarrassment and unfit for someone with royal blood so I was forced to move to this room. Its size was intimidating but when do I ever get a say. I walked towards the gigantic bed when I noticed the presence of someone in the room. I straightened my posture and walked deeper into the room. There sitting on the bed was my oldest brother Christopher. His dark black eyes bored into mine and he slowly lifted himself off the bed.
