Molly

Molly Molly slowly opened her eyes, but the bright rays of sunlight streaming through the window made her shut them again immediately. It was too much. Soon enough, the blackness took her again. Later that afternoon, Molly tried to force her eyes off again. This time, a figure approached the curtains and pulled them shut, dimming the room. allowing her lashes to see around her for the first time. A figure stood nearby, staring down at her intently. “Her eyes are opening,” the figure announced. Her vision was still blurry, and she couldn’t discern if it was a man or a woman. But the voice was distinctly masculine. Before she could process more, her lids grew heavy, and she lost consciousness again—for the third time that day. As her long lashes brushed her cheeks, the figure standing by her side blew out a frustrated breath. He was a tall, breathtaking young man dressed in a white coat. His long, dark hair was neatly brushed back and gathered with a leather thong at the nape of his neck, framing his forehead in a way that accentuated his striking features. His hands were tucked into his pockets as he stared at Molly with a worried expression. The nurse beside him noticed the concern etched on his face and spoke up. “Doc, she just needs some time to regain her strength. She went through a lot, but I’m confident she’ll recover soon,” the nurse assured him. The doctor frowned slightly. “I’m worried about her. When she gets better, who’s going to take care of her? We don’t know her family or where she’s from.” The nurse pressed her lips together, unable to offer a solution. “We're going to have to get the police involved. Tell them how we found her and get their help to try to locate her family,” she stated. The doctor rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah, yeah. We'll have to at some point, I guess. But let’s wait and see if she wakes up first,” the doctor replied. The nurse’s shoulders slumped slightly in disappointment. Just then, Molly began to stir, her body shifting as her eyes fluttered open again. This time, she could see them clearly. “W-where am I?” she asked weakly, her voice trembling. The doctor walked over and sat beside her, his movements calm and steady. He checked her lungs and heartbeat before placing his palm on hers in an effort to keep her calm. “You’re at the hospital. Don’t panic. You’re doing just fine,” he reassured her. Molly quickly sat up, her eyes locking on the handsome young man in front of her. She ignored his words entirely, too confused by her change of environment and captivated by his face. Her eyes widened, staring at him as if his beauty was too much for her to handle. In her twenty years of life, she had never seen someone so gorgeous. It was almost intimidating. “Are you real?” she gaped, lifting her fingers and gently stroking his cheek. “Ahem!” The doctor coughed, his voice low and steady. “Yes, I assure you I am. You need to lie back, miss. You were in some kind of accident and it seems like you might be a bit disoriented,” he chuckled, gently pulling her hand away. But Molly wasn’t done. She cupped his face again, this time more firmly, and smile beatifically at him. “You're beautiful,” she whispered, awestruck. The doctor froze, giving her a puzzled stare, while the nurse glared at the scene unfolding before her. “Doctor! Why aren’t you doing something? This is quite inappropriate!” the nurse stated, her voice filled with indignation. The doctor quickly removed Molly’s hand, standing up and shoving his own hands back into his pockets. “Umm, Miss,” he began, his tone becoming serious, “we're glad you're back with us. You didn't have any information with you. We don’t know who you are or how to find your family. Do you mind giving us some information to help us get you back home safely?” Molly sighed, lowering her gaze as her hair fell softly over one side of her face. “There’s no point. I have no family,” she said quietly, her voice heavy with despair. The nurse and the doctor exchanged glances, both unsure how to respond. “No one at all we can contact for you?” the doctor asked gently, his voice laced with concern. “But surely, you must have a guardian, a friend, or someone close to you who can come pick you up, right?” the nurse interjected, her voice almost pleading. “I don’t have anybody,” Molly muttered, throwing herself back on the bed and staring up at the ceiling. “You don’t understand. I've burned all my bridges. I have no one. I'd be better off just staying here.” “I'm sorry dear but this is a hospital. You can't stay here indefinitely,” the nurse interjected, her frustration spilling over. Molly’s eyes widened, the nurse's words finally sinking in. She was in a hospital! She had been so caught up in the moment that she hadn’t even realized it herself. She sat up abruptly, looking down at herself. She realized she was wearing a hospital gown. Her gaze darted between the doctor and nurse, taking them in as if for the first time. “Did something happen to me? Something really happened, didn’t it?” she asked urgently, her voice trembling as she awaited their response. The last thing she remembered was being attacked at the stream. That was the last clear memory she had until waking up here. “No! Nooo!” she cried, palming her face in horror as sobs overtook her. The doctor walked over to her and sat beside her. "Miss, calm down. It's okay. You're safe here. “Molly! I’m Molly!” she snapped, cutting him off, her tears falling more intensely. “Molly,” he corrected softly. She dropped her hands and leaned into him, resting her face on his shoulder as her cries grew louder. He patted her back as she continued to cry on her shoulder. “Please stop crying, Molly. Don’t worry. No one will hurt you. You're going to be just fine,” he said soothingly. “Why are people so cruel? I didn't deserve what they did to me! Did I?” she blurted out, her voice breaking as she questioned him. “No, I'm sure you didn't” he assured her though he still had no idea what had happened to the strange woman. “Then why? Why did they still have to hurt me like this? I had no family, I wasn't hurting anyone, and now this too?” she sobbed, resting her head back on his shoulder, her loud hiccups echoing through the room. The doctor sighed deeply, rubbing her back and petting her hair gently as he closed his eyes and breathed in her sweet scent. He didn’t understand why he felt her pain so acutely. He’d never been this attached to a patient before. Last night had been horrific, but he was grateful. The men who had taken her hadn’t been able to harm her. He’d arrived just in time to stop them from hurting the fragile young girl. Meanwhile, the nurse stood silently, watching the two of them without any visible expression. She didn't know the whole story. After what seemed like forever, she broke her silence. “What are we supposed to do with her, Doctor? You know we can’t keep her here. You have other patients to attend to,” she said, her tone sharp, clearly not approving of his familiarity with the young woman. “She doesn’t have a family, Nina. I don’t know what you expect me to do,” the doctor replied firmly. “It’s simple. Just take her to an adult orphanage. Someone will definitely adopt the crying brat,” Nina snorted, her voice now laced with a sinister cruelty. “Nina!” the doctor gasped, his shock evident. Molly gasped too, her tears immediately abating with the nurse's unbelievable words. Molly's temper was legendary at the palace even at her young age. Normally, it was in defense of her sweet friend, Talia, but she did not suffer insults lightly. . Without thinking, she quickly slid off the bed, her eyes blazing, her anger fueling a surprising energy. "Did I hear you right? You called me a brat?” Molly’s voice was sharp, her tone menacing. "You heard me, little girl," the nurse scoffed. Without another word, Molly grabbed Nina by the hair and threw her to the floor. Then, with all the force she could muster, she kicked the woman hard in the face.
