When we make it back to the Jeep, the sun has nearly gone down. My stomach is cramping up from hunger, and I’m struck with the realization that I’m not ready for our date to end. “I heard that, you know,” Kieran says, nodding to my stomach. “Did you not eat before we met up?” I try to remember what I ate today. Mom can’t keep much of anything down, so I’ve been making a lot of smoothies. I think that was for lunch, though. Or maybe breakfast? “No,” I admit. “You?” “I did.
