1.
It was just a regular day for Rose.
She took her son to school, went to work, helped her friends, ate something and now, she was in her favorite place in the whole world...
In the middle of the country, sitting on a cliff, looking at the lake, the emptiness and calm of the place reminded her of how her own soul had been one day... empty and calm, but if a stone fell on the right place, it would create chaos and loneliness.
She knew she was luckier than most people... her son was healthy, she had a job, a house... until recently, she felt that something was missing all her life, that she had never been happy. It seemed that happiness would run away from her and everything that was a blessing would turn into a curse, except her son.
When we hear someone say that their sons are the only reason they are still on this earth, usually, we don't believe it. People are selfish, right? There has to be another reason. Well, believe it, it's true. Until a few months before, her son was the only reason she hadn't taken her own life, because she would always come to this cliff thinking that she would find peace and she would always come back home, without doing anything.
But everything had changed.
In the weeks her son was with his father, everything got worse, but today, she was relaxed.
Few people knew how she really had felt, and today, they were proud of who she had become.
She was a great listener, everyone would open up with her, but she refused to talk about her own problems... She had already learned she should share some defeats and victories with those who really cared.
She would still keep to herself some days that weren't that great and would let everyone think she was fine; she still couldn't bare that people worried about her.
But life was easier when some people know how we truly feel, less complicated and she didn't have to explain a lot... they would listen and she understood that.
Her memories weren't good, but the past was in the past.
If she liked to have someone that cared for her, to support her, carry the burdens of life together? She would.
But she didn't need any man to make her life complete; she had never needed that and she wasn't about to begin now.
An illusion, just that, and she knew it.
She got up, the wind blowing in her long red hair, and she walked to the car.
While she walked, she reflected on the irony of ironies.
It was to a man that she had to thank for the strength and assurance she had now.
Gabriel.
