A Chance Encounter
The afternoon sun hung over Lagos as the streets buzzed with traffic, impatient horns, and hurried footsteps. Amara Okafor stepped out of the small boutique where she worked, clutching a folder of fashion sketches against her chest. Her dream was simple: one day, she would own a fashion house known across Africa. For now, she worked long hours for little pay, saving every naira she could. Her phone rang. "Amara, don't forget Mum's medicine," her brother David reminded her. "I won't," she replied with a smile. She hurried across the road, distracted while checking the list on her phone. Suddenly, the screech of tires cut through the air. A black SUV stopped just inches away. Her sketches scattered across the road. The driver's door swung open, and a tall man in a dark suit stepped out. "Are you alright?" he asked. Amara glared at him. "You almost hit me!" "I had the green light," he answered calmly. She looked around and realized he was right. Embarrassed, she quickly bent to gather her papers. Before she could pick them up, the man knelt beside her, carefully collecting the sketches. He paused as he looked at one of the designs. "Did you draw these?" "Yes." "They're beautiful." His voice was sincere. Amara took the papers from him. "Thank you... and sorry for shouting." He smiled. "I'm Ethan." She hesitated. "Amara." For a brief moment, the noisy streets around them seemed to disappear. Neither of them knew that this unexpected meeting would change the course of both their lives. As Ethan drove away, he couldn't stop thinking about the determined young woman with the fashion sketches. And as Amara watched the black SUV disappear into traffic, she quietly whispered to herself, "I'll probably never see him again." She was wrong.
