Episode 1;”The Dream Ticket “
Cora stares at her phone, fingers trembling over the glowing “Submit” button. DreamTech’s lottery is a long shot, but the prize—living out your dream, any dream, for 48 hours—has tempted millions. As she taps the button, a message pops up: “Once you enter, there’s no turning back. Proceed?” She hesitates. Leah’s warning echoes in her head: “Those companies mess with your mind, Cor.” But what could be the harm in a two-day escape? Cora hits submit. The screen flashes, and a confirmation buzz vibrates in her hand. Heart pounding, she tries to shake off the creeping anxiety. It’s just a dream, she tells herself. What’s the worst that could happen? As she scrolls through endless posts of other contestants hoping to win, she has no idea that the real nightmare is already in motion, Three days later, Cora is scrolling on her bed when her phone rings. An unknown number. She almost ignores it, but curiosity wins. “Hello?” There’s a pause, then a smooth, robotic voice responds: “Congratulations, Cora! You’ve been selected as a winner of the DreamTech Experience.” Cora’s heart leaps, but a strange unease lingers. She asks, “What now?” The voice replies, “A representative will contact you shortly for further instructions. Prepare yourself for the adventure of a lifetime.” The call ends abruptly, leaving her staring at the phone. She should be thrilled, but an icy chill creeps up her spine. Prepare for what? Leah’s laughter rings in Cora’s ears as she FaceTimes her best friend. “You actually won?” Leah exclaims, incredulous. “Yeah! Can you believe it?” Cora tries to match Leah’s enthusiasm, but something about the call earlier still nags at her. “I don’t know, Leah. There’s this weird feeling… like they were watching me or something.” Leah rolls her eyes, leaning back on her bed. “You’re overthinking it. It’s a dream, not some sci-fi thriller.” But Cora can’t shake the thought. “I know, but the way they spoke to me… It was off.” Leah waves her hand dismissively. “Stop worrying. You’re living out your dream! Nothing bad’s gonna happen.” Cora nods, but Leah’s words don’t ease the knot tightening in her chest. Why do I feel like it’s already too late to turn back? Cora arrives at DreamTech’s sleek, glass-covered facility, her nerves buzzing. She’s led into a dimly lit room, walls lined with high-tech screens. An AI assistant guides her through a selection of dreams: Futuristic cities, tropical islands, fantasy kingdoms. Each scenario feels more vivid than the last. She scrolls until her eyes catch a city bathed in neon lights—a sprawling, utopian metropolis. The description reads: “The ultimate future. Limitless possibilities. A world where you control your destiny.” Her finger hovers over the choice. She feels a strange pull, like this dream is calling to her. With a deep breath, she selects it. The screen flashes: “Are you ready to begin your journey?” She swallows, heart thudding. Am I? A human representative, dressed in a spotless white suit, hands Cora a slim tablet with the contract. The first few paragraphs look normal, but as she scrolls, she notices odd warnings: “Prolonged exposure to dreamscapes may result in disorientation. Some participants report difficulty distinguishing dreams from reality.” The terms grow stranger, mentioning “recovery protocols” and “mind stabilization.” Her pulse quickens, but the representative smiles. “It’s just formalities. No need to worry, Miss Cora.” She hesitates but signs. As soon as her name appears, the tablet shuts off. The representative’s expression tightens slightly, just for a second, before his smile returns. “Your journey begins tomorrow. Get a good night’s rest. You’ll need it.” His tone sends a shiver down her spine. Why do I feel like I’ve just agreed to something far more dangerous than a dream? Cora is led into a sterile, futuristic chamber where the DreamTech pod waits—sleek, metallic, and humming softly. A technician, face hidden behind a visor, helps her inside. “This will be quick,” they say, their voice devoid of emotion. Wires are gently attached to her temples, and a soft glow pulses around the edges of the pod as it closes over her. Cora’s breath quickens as the lights dim. Suddenly, she feels an odd pressure in her head, a tightness that builds behind her eyes. “What is that?” she asks, voice trembling. The technician doesn’t respond. The hum grows louder. The pressure intensifies until—darkness. Everything vanishes. Cora floats in an endless void, her thoughts swirling, then—light explodes in front of her. Just as the dream begins to form around her, a sharp static sound rips through the air. The bright city skyline flickers like a broken TV screen. For a second, everything goes dark. Panic surges through her—something’s wrong. She tries to move, but her body feels frozen. Then, without warning, the world snaps back into focus, the static gone. The city stands before her, shimmering and alive. Cora exhales shakily. What just happened? A voice in her ear, calm and mechanical, reassures her: “Minor technical difficulty. Please proceed with your dream.” She steps forward, but the memory of that glitch lingers, casting a shadow over the bright. As she steps into the futuristic metropolis, Cora’s senses are overwhelmed. Towering skyscrapers stretch into a deep purple sky, while sleek hovercars glide effortlessly through the air. Neon signs flash in unfamiliar symbols, casting a vibrant glow over the bustling streets. People smile as they pass her—everyone seems content, as if this city is the perfect place to live. Cora takes a deep breath, trying to settle her nerves. The city feels too real. Every detail is sharper, clearer than any dream she’s ever had. As she walks, a strange sensation tingles at the back of her mind, like the dream is watching her. She pushes the thought away. It’s just a dream, she reminds herself. Wandering through the city, Cora stumbles upon a park filled with futuristic art installations. As she admires a levitating sculpture, someone speaks behind her. “New here, huh?” Cora spins around to find a boy, maybe her age, watching her with a curious smile. His clothes are unlike anything else in the city—more practical, more real. “I’m Ethan,” he says, stepping closer. “I haven’t seen you around before.” Cora frowns. “I just got here.” Ethan tilts his head, eyes narrowing slightly. “Be careful. This place… it’s not always what it seems.” His words send a cold jolt through her. Before she can ask what he means, he’s already walking away, disappearing into the crowd. What did he mean?As Cora continues through the park, she feels a sudden shift in the air. The sky flickers—just for a second. The purple hues dim, and the buildings waver like a reflection on water. She freezes, heart pounding. The glitch passes as quickly as it came, but something about it feels wrong. Cora looks around, but no one else seems to notice. The people continue smiling, talking, moving as if nothing happened. A sense of dread creeps over her. That wasn’t normal. It’s like the dream itself is broken. Suddenly, her vision blurs, and she stumbles, clutching her head. Static buzzes in her ears, growing louder with each second. She gasps, struggling to stay upright as the world flickers in and out. A soft voice, distant and warped, whispers: “Wake up… wake up.” Cora’s heart races. She tries to respond, but the words won’t come. The buzzing intensifies, then—darkness. When her vision clears, everything seems normal again, but the voice lingers in her mind. Wake up? Panic swells within her. Am I stuck here? The dream world feels too real, too solid—and now she isn’t sure if she’ll ever escape. Cora races toward the city’s edge, desperate to find answers, but as she reaches it, a towering wall rises out of nowhere, blocking her path. What’s beyond it, and why is DreamTech hiding it from her?
