Chapter 1:- A life in Ruins
Stella Monroe sat in the dimly lit café, her fingers tightening around the cup of untouched coffee. The air smelled of roasted beans and fresh pastries, but she couldn’t bring herself to eat. Not when her entire world was falling apart. A legal notice lay on the table before her, stark and unforgiving. Her uncle was trying to take everything from her. Her father’s company—Monroe Enterprises—wasn’t just a business. It was his legacy. The thing he had sacrificed for, poured his soul into. And now, after his sudden and suspicious death, her uncle was circling like a vulture, waiting for her to give up. He thought she’d break. He thought she’d surrender. He was wrong. The chair across from her scraped against the floor as Nina, her best friend, slid into the seat. “Alright, what’s going on? You’ve been ignoring my texts all day.” Stella pushed the document toward her. “He’s threatening legal action if I don’t sign over the company.” Nina’s brows furrowed as she skimmed the letter. Her expression darkened. “He’s bluffing.” Stella let out a humorless laugh. “He’s not. He’s been manipulating the board, making them doubt me. If I don’t step down willingly, he’ll force me out.” “This is because you refused to sell, isn’t it?” Nina asked, voice tight with anger. Stella nodded. “He wanted me to sign everything over to him so he could sell it. I said no.” Nina exhaled sharply. “And we both know why he’s so desperate.” They didn’t have to say it out loud. Her father’s death hadn’t been an accident. There was no proof. No evidence. But Stella knew. Her uncle had been waiting for the right moment to take everything. And now that she was the only thing standing in his way, he was doing whatever it took to force her out. Nina set the document down carefully. “We’re not letting him win.” Stella swallowed. “I don’t know how to stop him.” Nina reached across the table, gripping her hand. “Then we find a way. Together.” ⸻ Later That Night The apartment was silent when Stella got home. She dropped onto the couch, exhaustion pressing down on her. Her phone buzzed. She already knew who it was before she picked it up. Time is running out. Do the right thing, Stella. Her uncle. A slow, burning rage built inside her. The right thing? Her father had done the right thing his entire life. He had been fair, honest, loving, loyal, transparent, hardworking. And where had that gotten him? Murdered. Stella clenched her fists. I won’t let him take everything. I can’t even if it means giving up my life I’ll do that so my sister can have a better life. If my uncle thinks that I’m just going to roll over and let him win, he was about to learn just how wrong he was.
