The highschool graduation ceremony was held weeks after their last exam. In the school auditorium, the teachers sat by one side, the graduating students by another with their parents and well-wishers behind them. Eric sat at the first row designated for them but when he looked back, he could see his mother smiling broadly at him.
After the principal had given his welcome address, it was time for the valedictorian speech. Eric was the valedictorian of his class because he was also the best graduating student.
